Cambridge vs Stevenage

Jez George reckons this is a massive game for us, and goes on to say that he's as frustrated as we all are that our home record isn't great and that we've lost too many games. But fret not, our Jez has got the solution - it will be much easier to get a home win if the fans can create a really big atmosphere and get a really big crowd on Saturday.

My solution is actually a whole lot simpler. Get rid of Derry and his ultra cautious negative footy asap, and bring in someone who's willing to take some risks, a new man who isn't afraid of playing attacking football and of our midfield players crossing the halfway line.

Football is all about winning and the three points, but the fans also want to be entertained every now and then. I've been saying for ages now that home crowds will drop off if the club sticks with Derry because only those 2000-2500 hardcore fans who used to watch us play in the conference will loyally support the side through thick and thin. The others will find something better to do on Saturdays if they feel they're not being entertained.

I've also been ranting to all that will listen about how much we're under achieving and how dull the football is.

Which means that we'll bend Stevenage over and give them a damn good roasting, with some slick, high-paced, courageous play.

Derry will make a jibe in his interview about the fans and he will once again have enough credit to remain unsackable.

I'd take a 1-0 victory with our only shot on target if it harms Stevenage's chances of promotion.

That or an 8-0 defeat which leads to the removal of Dezza before he gets his hands on our summer transfer funds.

This COULD be a "massive game" for us, in retrospect - should we somehow manage a win.

The immediate prospect is much less inspiring. I'm sure we'll give it a go but:

• The opposition are playing some good football and winning matches;
• It seems likely that O'Neil will start ahead of Dunne;
• We can only offer a striker or attacking combination that might deliver a goal threat for, at best, little more than 30 minutes;
• It's bloody Stevenage;
• We're at home.

I see little or no reason to expect a win - so it might happen.

I expect to be heading for Accrington and Crewe next week in continuing wind-down mode, with little to play for. However, I've just had couple of windfalls that might fund some minor distractions - £55 DVLA refund on road tax and promise of £25 from SkyBet for Accrington petrol.
