Only the one game tonight and if any united fans weren't convinced yet that we're staying up then surely they are now.
Not a great deal to report, not a classic encounter. I think Chris Beech looked to field a team to match up to Newport's physicality and in the end Newport were poor so it was just two fairly physical teams pushing and pulling each other for ninety minutes. Not that I'm complaining, three points is three points and a clean sheet is more than welcome.
It looked to be over as a contest by half time, we went 2-0 up through a fine Omari Patrick header from a corner in the first few minutes and a Josh Kayode penalty after Jack Bridge was brought down in the area. Newport then went down to 10 men following a two footed lunge from Inniss and you couldn't see them coming back into it.
Second half, Newport did come on stronger and frustratingly for the United fans, didn't appear to be missing a player. However didn't create a huge amount, enough that you could see them getting one back to make it a nervy finish, only to spurn the two good chances they did have, so it wasn't to be. We threatened to score a third ourselves and but for some spirited blocking, looked like we would.
A long journey back for the Newport fans, one of whom had seen enough by half time that he walked past those of us smoking outside the ground back to his car.
