I'd hope we can take advantage of Vale's battling performance in the cup last night, especially with 2 players now suspended. However, we are quite dire and have only beaten Cheltenham and Yeovil (both terrible on the day) at home in the league.

It's annoying looking at the table each week and seeing us still around 4 points off the playoff positions, as despite being lacklustre most of the season, we're not that far away.

1-1 Parkes, Pope

Hard to tell how this will go, the performance last night should give us massive belief but depends how knackered we are.

What Aspo did that was wise was sub our three most key men in Worrall, Pope and Whitfield once the second red happened so they should be fresh and Harness who will likely replace the banned Monty only played 60 minutes.

I think Tonge will be rested and replaced with Pugh who didn't appear but the big question will be right back with Gibbo suspended. Yates is injured long term after his horror facial injuries which leaves the possibility of the frozen out Lawrie Wilson trying to stake a claim, he was on paper our best signing prior to Worrall but had a shocking start to his Vale career and his attitude was poor, much so he hasn't even made the Checkatrade side or the subs bench under Aspin... he will be a high earner so with a four game requirement for a right back a chance to stake a claim?

The defence will be knackered but luckily its a young back line so should cope, maybe rest Mad Gav for Denton to give some legs?

We have improved in the main under Aspin, will be a tough test though but with the fixtures coming up after this we could do with a result here big time.

Battling draw 1-1 with Pope scoring. A win would see us on 24 points which would be half way to safety virtually with half the season to go... unthinkable when Aspo took over considering by mid October we only had 5 points!

Take the positives from last night into this and throughout the season and that battling will see us fine.

I hope Tom Pope gets a good reception from the Brunton Park crowd.

Anyway onto the match, we were absolutely dreadful in our last home game. I had this down as a draw but wouldn’t be surprised if we get beat.

Our problem is we have a very negative manager who recognises that he’s now got a half decent defence but an absolutely pitiful attack. So he now sets us up like we’re away at the Etihad, playing for a 0-0 but preying we nick a 1-0. Our strikers couldn’t score if they walked into a whorehouse carrying a suitcase full of money, that’s the problem. But I still wish we’d attack more from the start!

Play Smith right back bring gunning to the centre and play denton left back. I wouldn't play that gob shite Wilson ever again. Also I'm going this game so that will most likely mean we will lose.

The last minute 1-0 at your place?
Yep. Had we won that day or even got a point, it probably would have bought the clown another couple of games and knowing him he probably would have wriggled his way out of getting the boot

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
going to this one as heading up to Carlisle this weekend.

first Carlisle game in over a year, last time i got to a game was the 3-0 at Morecambe. First time back at brunton park for nearly 2 years.....dear me!!

May feel a bit different to the 200 home fans i usually stand with. On positive side i've not seen us lose for 2 years and my last 2 links with Carlisle have seen thumping win days.......we won 3-0 at morecambe and last time i was in Carlisle we won 5-0 at Crewe.......got to be a lucky omen:dk:

I don't think it would have really changed much. Only difference would be instead of a year of Kav it would be Abbott getting replaced with Curle in September following relegation.

Never knew you were at Crewe, I was there as well and I'd have recognised you had I seen you.

I think he was saying last time he was in Carlisle we won 5-0 at Crewe, as in he was not at Crewe he was in Carlisle whilst the game was taking place. I think... well at least that’s how I read it.

Or difference could have been Abbott getting replaced with kav following our relegation from league 1, so having kav a year later, but taking over in League 2 and then getting us relegated to the conference.

Shudder at the thought! So thanks Tom Pope.

To be honest if a last minute winner (and if I remember correctly, Troy Archibald-Henville had very nearly scored a last minute goal for us) was the final straw in getting Abbott sacked then I'm sure the thread he was hanging by wouldn't have taken much to break. Perhaps though the delay in sacking Abbott would have meant that Kav's three games as caretaker manager would have been against three different clubs, he wouldn't have won them all and wouldn't have been appointed full time replacement to Abbott. We'd have stayed up that year.

Or you know, literally anything, I'll propose that had Tom Pope not scored that last minute winner, we'd currently be Champions League holders.

Your lad blazed over and the next attack a ball was chipped down the line up Lofty who crossed for the Pontiff. Made the 7 hour round trip from Leicestershire more bearable. Similar situation to how FGR scored to get a draw and get Browny the sack. 16 points in 9 games after only 5 in the first 12. I shudder to think how doomed we’d be now had MB was still incharge!

Dreadful line up having Pugh, Kay and Tonge together. Well done Carlisle on your victory this afternoon. Frustrating.

We’ve actually played well first half, but due to our forwards being shit (apart from Lambe), we’ve got fuck all to show, in fact vale had the best chances despite having little of the play. Our strikers bennett in particular are really shit, they make shit runs or no runs, shit touches and aren’t sharp at all, take an age to get their shots away. I’ll give Hope the benefit of the doubt for being shit today cos he’s stuck on the left.

So good performance but toothless yet again.

Your left back Number 8 has been impressive

Really? Danny Pugh... much mallagned and about 8000 years old. Premier League class five years ago but past it now. He usually plays central midfield.

Sounds like we started slowly (again!) and have grown into it towards the end of the half.

Seen tweets from both sets of fans saying it’s one of the worst games they’ve seen mind!

The second half has been one of the worst I’ve seen. Shocking stuff. On this evidence we’ll be closer to the relegation zone than playoff places

Yeah Pugh was good, didn’t give our right winger a sniff first half.

Unexpected but welcome 3pts which sets us up nicely for our festive schedule and gives us breathing space away from the bottom.

Seen the goals.. what a tackle for the first by Worrall and the second was pure coolness from the Papal Assassin.

Worrall is awesome and Anderson had a good game. We rode our luck abit at times but could have scored a couple more aswell Carlisle need go get themselves a striker there dyer upfront of goal and why Grainger didn't start for them i never know. I don't go many away games anymore but glad I went today and I'm going next week aswell to Colchester who are the form team of the divison.

Worrall should be stand out really considering he was a key player in a team that won promotion to the Championship so we are lucky to have him. Anderson has impressed considering we were told he was awful when he signed!

Colchester will be tough, but we have only accumulated one less point than them over the last ten games, 2nd v 3rd in the form table.

First half we were the better side in terms of possession, we were on top in midfield but absolutely toothless in attack.

Second half we gifted them a first. What Clint Hill was thinking I do not know!

Then the tactical ineptness of Curle reared its ugly head. What do you do when your midfield has been on top but your strikers have been shit? Yup, take off one of your midfielders leaving gaping holes in the middle of the pitch which Port Vale absolutely raped us on numerous times including for their second goal. It was a diabolical second half performance.

The number of points Curle has pissed away this season through bad team selections and poor tactical decisions is embarrassing. And then there’s the poor (to put it mildly) recruitment of forward players over the summer.

Curle has to go, if not now then definitely at the end of the season.

Missing Ibehere? (That said he was woeful against us for Cambridge who are suffering the same problems as you in terms of lack of goals).

You’ve got some decent players in that squad so a striker in January and you’ll be ok.

I just wish Aspo had been appointed in the summer... we’d probably be a play off outfit at least, hell if he had been appointed last Boxing Day when Bruno left we’d probably have stayed up last year. Hindsight I guess but the fact in 10 league games he’s won as many league games as Brown did in 10 months says it all!

Ibehre was a brilliant player for us. I’d drive down to Cambridge to pick him up and bring him here if Cambridge wanted to let him go.

We are absolutely shite. Hope and Bennett are useless and I'm genuinely surprised we scored at all, never looked likely.

Port Vale weren't great but took advantage of another defensive mistake and then got a second on the counter, and probably deserved the win in what was a poor game.

What I'd give for a Jabo up front this season, even Proctor was more dangerous than the current forwards.
