Bit of a defensive issue for this one because with Luke Waterfall picking up a 3 game ban after his sending off against Mansfield (and James Wilson injured), it means we only have one out and out CB and he's a 19 year old loanee. That'll mean Bostwick will, again, have to go back to CB so it'll be interesting see whether we stick with 4-3-3 and bring Whitehouse or Pett in, or go back to 4-4-2 with Rowe and Anderson back.

One that we need to be winning and with Grimsby next week and Morecambe on the horizon it's, on paper, a good opportunity to get more points on the board.

Sold our first batch of 1,600 for this with another 700 received yesterday for the side of the pitch (thought Chesterfield's away end was more than 1,600?) so I'm guessing it'll be around 1,800 in total. About what I thought we'd sell in what is, and has been, a very expensive time as a Lincoln fan since the turn of the year.

I am some what envious of all the local games you have in your neck of the woods, this obviously being one of them and coming straight after Mansfield.
It must be made better by all clubs being of a similar size, barring maybe Hull. It did get me wondering who Lincoln see as their main rivals though. Geographically i'd guess it is Boston, but if my memory serves there hasn't been much history between your clubs, and their demise back to none league can't have helped.
When I started going to games in the 90s I was none the wiser about rivalries aside from Bury's. But by the time Bury returned to the bottom tier in 2002 I became very aware of a good rivalry between yourselves and Scunny and yourselves and Hull. Then of course Grimsby came along and there were a few fierce clashes between you both.
Scunny and Grimsby is always classed as the Humberside derby
Hull (I am guessing) will claim Leeds or one of the Sheffield clubs are their rivals.Mansfield and Chesterfield are nearby, as are Donny but don't they all dislike each other.

So, who do Lincoln dislike the most?

Sorry for the random nature of my post.

We've only been around since 1878, as founder members of League division 2 along with Lincoln City, the first "City" v the first "Town" in the League - hence our song "we are (The) Town". Hull City "came along" in 1904 and Scunthorpe "came along" in about 1950.

I guess what you really meant was "then of course Grimsby were relegated..." which could be oft repeated in the 2000s...

Away hold a smidge over 2000 but the front coulpe of rows will be closed behind both goals (after our fans had a thing for running on the pitch and clashing with oppositions fans, players etc) so behind the goal you'll have about 1900. The first block in the east stand will be open for you also I suspect (around 400 seats) and maybe half of the second block (further 200) which will be your lot should you sell them all.

As for the game kinda hoping you have eyes on Wembley already perhaps and we can pinch something. We've generally done better at home against better sides so sure we will be up for it. Really must win in our predicament but it's a definite 'must not lose'.

Tempted to come back from Leeds as think it'll be one of the better atmosphere and 7k+ crowd if you're bringing 2,000 odd.

This is making up for the non-local games in our NL years, which at times were Guiseley and Macclesfield! I think Macclesfield were our closest game two yeas ago...

There was a season 10 years or so back where I'm sure there was Lincoln, Notts, Hull, Mansfield, Doncaster, Scunny, Grimsby all in L2 (or Division 3 as it might have been at the time).

In terms of disliking sides, and as said elsewhere on the forum this week, it depends when you were watching Lincoln really. For me, I grew up watching Lincoln vs Scunny/Boston because historically, Grimsby spent a lot of time above us. But those who've been around the last 10 years will see it as Grimsby because they're the only local game we've played consistently with Mansfield thrown in, albeit just a local-ish game like Notts, Doncaster and Chesterfield are.

Lincoln/Boston and Lincoln/Scunthorpe were very big games when they were being played, particularly with Evans and Laws at their respective Clubs.

It's always felt Lincoln/Scunny/Boston, Grimsby/Hull/Doncaster, Mansfield/Notts/Mansfield but I'm not sure how true that actually is. All of us have played each other in league games in the last 10-15 years I suspect and have some kind of mini-history.

For us, I'm not sure we have what I'd call a proper derby game in terms of history in the area as well as proximity. We're pretty standalone.

Sorry to gatecrash your thread. Is there any chance whatsoever we will get anything on the side? I know you’ve given it to Wednesday or United in the past I think. Not sure the police would allow it anyway mind.

We gave it to Sheff United 1 season yeah (think Vale and Grimsby have had it also) but usually we've sold out the home areas like when you came last time. We won't sell out this time, would expect 6500 home fans maybe so there will be 1500 empty seats in the home ends if 2000 in away. I don't know if we will give you them tickets though..anyone else it would be beyond doubt. Depends how desperate for the extra cash the board are before their impending departure. Could well be chaos if we do to be honest.

Thanks for summarising mate, an excellent read.

Please god Bozzy do not get booked!

Going to this game, I managed a visit to Saltergate so looking forward to this.

Quick question - how long is the walk from the station to the ground?

Was '04 Brian Laws running around the Glanford Park pitch just before KO to plant a Scunny flag in the centre circle?

2003, 5-3 at home then 1-0 there. Laws refused to shake big Keith's hand at the end of the first game, as he only shook hands with gentlemen.... They made up a while later.

For me our biggest rival has to be the team we formed to stop winning the county cup,Grimsby Town.

It was 03. You beat us 6-3 on aggregate. You battered us tbh. Simon Yeo and all that. You had a massive team of basket ballers. Fair play they were effective though. Haven’t played at Sincil Bank in 13 years ffs. Hope you come up this year. Need a good rivalry

I think that was over the course of two seasons. 03/04 had Donny, Hull and Huddersfield, all of whom went up. Grimsby and County came down to replace them, and you still had Boston at that point.

Yeah, I think it was. We played Huddersfield in the PO's and they met Mansfield(?) in the final and Scunny just survived.

So there was Doncaster, Hull, Huddersfield, Mansfield, Lincoln, Boston, Scunny and York with County and Grimsby being relegated.

How've Chesterfield got on since we played them? They were a pretty passing side but an ineffective one at our place.

If you could both lose that would be brilliant.

On the likely outcome that doesn't happen, a draw would suffice.

Would certainly be nice if Chesterfield offered those away tickets out to us as mentioned.

Very hit and miss. Lots more misses than hits. We can be quite a dangerous team on our day, and we tend to turn up better against the better sides, but concede soft soft goals all the time. I think Coke, Dodds, Kellett being back from injury is big for us. Kellett is quality as an attacking mid.

20 mins ish if you take the path down by the bypass. Bit longer if you take the road, 2/3 pubs on the way too.

Judging by the league table I'd guess at not very well.

Used to love the Scunny games, and Hull before they got all big time with their fancy new stadium and rise up the leagues.

Win win for us imps this weekend, need a win to keep us in with a chance of playoffs but a loss puts a massive nail in Grimsby's coffin. Cods looking certs to go down anyway but a win for the Spirites would send sheer panic through Cleethorpes :woot::sur:
