Hoping we can go there and build on last weeks second half performance. Hoping Aspin keeps the same starting 11 but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him change it as Colchester are apparently a big, physical side.

I’d be delighted with a draw alongside a decent enough performance and that’s what I think we will see.

1-1. Pope for Vale.

Tricky tie. Need to show last weekend wasn't a flash in the pan and if we can put in another performance like that we will have a chance.

Think we will go with the same line up, as Aspin says let them worry about us rather than our usual nervous parking of the bus away from home.

Colchester are a tough side though and will take a point 1-1 Miller Boy! Colchester scoring in the 15th minute of injury time added on after Miller's ultra long goal celebration.

Fucking dire start. Talk about Jekyll and Hyde. Embarrassing this could end up.

Sounds like we’ve been awful so far.

Hopefully Aspin can motivate them so we can actually compete in the next half. Only takes a couple of decent moves/chances to get our confidence back.

Worryingly poor, two identical goals and no lessons learnt and the poor form away from home continued. Added to that Pope maybe out for a period of time and it’s been a distaster.

I didn't think Vale looked too bad on the ball but we really ought to have scored more than two. Not entirely convinced with Barnes in goal for us but can't argue with two clean sheets so far I guess.

Disappointing result, but hopefully we still have a couple of loan players incoming to fill the gaps.

Sounds like today shows how much we need Howkins certainly!

Pope has a back spasm so hopefully that’s not serious.

Colchester are going to be up at the right end of the table this season, at the same time this result should steady expectations at Vale after the good start.

Colchester are going to be up at the right end of the table this season, at the same time this result should steady expectations at Vale after the good start.

Most of us said all along in fairness that we’d happily take a top half finish and solid consolidation, even on the radio on the way home last week most Vale were cautious as we won the opener last season to then lose six in a row. (Crewe fans calling in were suggesting they’d win the league and their midfielder is the best in the league etc in comparison)

We’ve had an issue away from home for a few seasons now and there was a concern that if we stuck with the same shape and being so attacking against a side that’s built to be ultra physical like Col U that we’d struggle. We’ve got to find the formula away from home, Aspin spoke about being adaptable and we haven’t been that today.

Need to get Howkins in the door to sort that defensive worry out and assume once fully fit we will complete the loan deal. Need to look for someone who’s pacey too as we are lacking that certainly in the midfield.

It’s disappointing today and shows we are still a work in progress. Hopefully Tom isn’t out for long as that’s pretty much ended the game for us and we can bounce back against Crawley (not to arsed about the cup game tbh)

Oh christ, only a week in and you’re already starting on the mythical “cocky Crewe fans” complex that you bleated on about all last season.

Can't say as was overly surprised we lost today. Colchester are one of them teams who fly under the radar a little but they are more than decent and a legitimate playoff contender I'd have thought. Didn't get too excited over beating Cambridge this week and not going the other way over this.

The ones on P&G were spouting some stuff, the ones on here wasn’t. Point being Vale fans weren’t getting carried away... we’d been bit twice the last two seasons with opening day last year and the opening three months the year before.

Colchester is always a tough place to go, they seem to be a solid top ten side usually at this level and we’ve not had an easy game there for years. Tend to be a side you fancy beating at home but don’t fancy going away too.

Looking at the video they are two absolutely appalling goals to concede at this level and do identical it baffles belief that we didn’t learn from the first one! Not one challenge on his doing the give and go and walked through us there.

Albeit from an attacking perspective I thought they were really good goals - excellent movement, one touch passing. Vale couldn't live with Courtney Senior today, he was exceptional throughout and constantly ghosting through as demonstrated with his opener.

To be fair judging by that he could walk
Through with sirens on and no one would deal with him!

It’s decent movement but incredibly easy and as an away side we’ve got to be far far better than that. It’s basic stuff to track a runner, once in a game it’s poor but twice in 15 minutes or so from a defensive view is unacceptable.

Massive meltdown on OVF (as usual) but we were as good against Cambridge as we were bad today and has been a funny start with Crewe beaten after pasting Morecambe, Cambridge beating the title favs after a pasting against us, Grimsby and Newport winning after heavy defeats. Set to be fairly open this season to compete we have to address our away form massively. Other than Crewe Away and Grimsby both where we switched off late in injury time we’ve not come close to getting a first away win since Carlisle last December!

We are the only side in the football league apparently not to have won an away game this calender year.

To be fair we’ve only won three games full stop all year!
