I was gonna post something in the Coronavirus thread we have, but nobody has posted in it since August so seemed better to create a new thread for what impact Covid will still have on the football going into the 2021/22 season.
The EFL have concluded their investigation into our outbreak in January. I had no idea that was still going on, it didn't take them long to conclude the investigation into Grimsby (though apparently the EFL officials were present at the infamous darts tournament). Presumably we'd been doing a decent job keeping our players from sharing indoor spaces for any length of time, though I thought having to train indoors because of the weather was a factor. Maybe we managed that well, ventilation and keeping players to smaller groups and so on. Nigel Clibbens has said he is confident that protocols the club put in place kept covid out of the building.
According to the EFL the outbreak originated from when their was a power outage affecting the Harrogate stadium and our players had to remain on the coach for an extended spell as health and safety concerns meant they weren't allowed off it. Not sure how they were preventing an outbreak taking place each and every time the players travelled by coach to an away game but I guess the longer they're on it the greater the chances of infection spreading and they were on that coach for something like eight hours solid. This is the EFL's conclusion anyway, the club has pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to fulfil fixtures but in light of the circumstances the EFL has waived the fine and Carlisle United are only liable for the EFL's costs in carrying out the investigation.
