Both sides come into this in good form, I think Grimsby have won the last 4, whilst were unbeaten in 3 and boast a decent home record. We’ve only conceded 2 goals at home this season. Which is very in Crewe like. 4 points from this game and the home game vs Mansfield on Tuesday would be a good return. I’m expecting another tight low scoring game, hoping we can just nick this one with Grimsby having a very poor record at Gresty Rd in recent years.

Crewe 1-0 Grimsby (Bowery) 3,843 (600 Mariners)

Just remember we have Ng suspended for this one, who are we expecting to replace him. I know Nolan has just returned to training, but I’m guessing this has come too soon. Either move Whelan to centre half, or bring Hunt/Raynes in. Raynes seems way out of favour so can’t see him coming in.

Last 5 visits have been 5 defeats, 2 goals scored and 15 against!!!

I'm definitely far more hopeful we can get a result on Saturday as I was a few weeks ago. Jolley will probably go for the same starting XI that has taken 10 points from the last 4 games without conceding a goal.

I'll take a draw now though if it was offered.

Law of averages say Grimsby must be due a result sooner or later here, we've smacked them around for most of the last decade whenever they've come to visit. Feel like the first goal is vital. If we get it, we can open up, start to play and challenge Grimsby to break us down. But if they get it, they'll surely shut up shop and I'm not sure we're good enough to unpick a stingy defence.

Hopefully we can carry on from where we left off against Yeovil on Tuesday.

We won't shut up shop in the first half if we go ahead, if our previous matches are anything to go by. Second half we have ridden our luck a bit lately though, admittedly. Agree on the first goal though, we haven't come from behind to pick up a single point yet, I don't think. An open game could suit us should you score first though. Gonna go for a 1-1 draw here and I'd certainly take that if offered it now. Vernam and Miller on the scoresheet.

Hunt in for the suspended Ng. Hopefully Hunt plays another blinder like he did vs Swindon. Get the feeling this will be very tight with not many chances.

Sounds a bit like we're trying to go a bit too direct at the moment. Ainley casuing problems as well, by all accounts.

We've been the better side marginally but both sides have had chances. Ours were more clearcut and we'll be more disappointed not to be ahead. Crewe look pacey on the attack while our progressive possession has been better. Our second halves have been much, much better recently but those missed chances could easily bite us here.

Crewe had a couple of decent half chances but Town had two clear chances in the last 5 minutes of the half and really should be 1 up at the break. Ainley and Embleton the best players.

I dread second halves where we’ve played well in the first half. Given our terrible record at Crewe it’s nice to hear that we are playing well there as we are usually dire at Gresty Road.

Someone got in touch with Radio Humberside to say that the ref blew for half time at 44.52 when we should have had a corner, which is a bit of an odd one if true.

Can you imagine if that happened at an Exeter game, Devon Lad would have a fucking fit. :bg:

Crewe 1-0. Bollocks. We've been the better side all game, their keeper has kept out 3 great chances by Vernam.

Damn, that's a blow after playing well enough for a point at least by the sound of it. Not finishing chances coming back to haunt us at the moment.

2-0 and done. On another day we'd be plenty up as our efforts have actually been on target today but we just never get anything here. Got to take the positives in our performance and our work rate.

Fuck sake, 2-0 and Crewe growing in confidence. We need to not capitulate and let in any more. Would be annoying to end the good form by returning back to previous problems. Big end to this match to see if our heads drop or not here. Fair play to Crewe, they're all over us right now.

Said the first goal was vital. Given how end to end the chances sounded in the first half by the sounds of it, I reckon if Grimsby had gone in front first, we might well have lost. But as soon as we scored, I was pretty confident we weren't going to blow it.

I was worried that the law of averages would see this one swing Grimsby's way, but thankfully not this time.

Delighted Miller is off the mark, we are a far better side with him fit and in the team. Also pleased we got the breakthrough from someone other than Bowery and Kirk. First time since the opening day that someone other than those 2 has scored. 5th clean sheet, 4th win from 7 at Gresty Road. We're never that hard to beat at home, makes for a pleasing change.

Was a very even game until 60 minutes, we probably edged it. Then Jolley took off Hooper and that lead to the first, because Vernam didn’t track the runner. After that, it was mostly Crewe and the second killed the game. Thought Crewe were a decent team that were similar to us, except better at passing.

Enjoyed my first trip to Crewe overall. Absolutely no way was there 3.5k Crewe fans there!

Matt Dean reckoned 800 Town fans were there and then it got announced as 469 or something.

I make that 0 points gained from losing positions this season, basically if we go behind we’re fucked.

About 500 looked right. As for ours I believe it’s pretty accurate bower days as they scan tickets. But the main stand holds nearly 7000 so when we have gates of 3000 spread across 4 stands it looks very empty.
