It did look a penalty but it came from a tangle of legs and the Donny Striker did do a bit of a swan dive. It looked like the Plymouth defender was just trying to get tight but misjudged it and there was contact.

Having said that, the Channel 5 wallies (Murray and Gray) were trying to say that the problem was that League One referees are part time and have 9 to 5 jobs so are not fit enough. I think they need to watch the Watford equaliser yesterday in a Premier League match officiated by "Professionals"

First football match I ever went to almost 50 years ago a fan walked onto the pitch and offered the ref his glasses. Referees making mistakes are part of being human, like a striker passing it straight to the keeper from 6 yards out with the goal wide open (looking at you, Andy Barcham). It's what gets the emotions going and helps make the game unpredictable and exciting. Football's sanitised enough already. Unless Ferguson thinks he's being singled out (which he probably does, as all managers do), then these things even themselves out in the end. Keep football random, and shoot whinging managers instead.

Ferguson complaining about players being pulled to the floor is amusingly hypocritical. He needs to stop his own team doing it first as he is clearly happy for his defenders to benefit from refs missing it.

Does he discipline his players for cheating by diving etc? I bet he doesn't or even apologise to the Ref for his players doing it to con them.

All teams do these things so to go off on a rant like that is pathetic and if done enough then obviously officials will miss things.

I assume whichever of his players who made mistakes yesterday will also be shot. I assume the 3 players who missed clearcut free headers at ours are already dead and buried.

I remember Alfie May diving against us earlier in the season in the box, he didn't complain that a yellow wasn't shown then.

Refs make mistakes is one of the highest intensity sports in the world and they have to keep with far younger and fitter people than them, it's frustrating when it's against your team I've called them every name under the sun (Like when the ball went a mile out of play for Charlton's winner against us). But take a step back would you rather technology take over so we had to stop every 30 seconds to look at an incident. It is played at a far higher tempo than Rugby or Cricket, that's why it's the greatest sport on earth. If it becomes like them sports I'd probably just pack in watching.

Parkinson used to bitch about refs every week, never helped us, in fact I'm sure they were worse towards us in his latter years.

Actually, this could set a precedent. I presume Fergie Junior would be happy for Chairmen to have the right to shoot their manager rather than sack them if the team is on a bad run or is relegated due to their mistakes.

Could save teams a lot in the way of compensation.

Well Doncaster are mid table and got knocked out by a team at the bottom of the league in the FA Cup last week so clearly they haven't been perfect!

And they don't have the excuse of I presume having other jobs like these part time refs must do - wonder what they do as pretty sure some must be tired by the time Saturday comes which maybe doesn't help.

Having see the Football league show what probably didn't help Ferguson's mood was being told to go away by the ref straight after the match as he marched onto the pitch to have a "chat"

The Ref was absolutely right to tell him to go away straight after the match. I think there is a protocol where there is a cooling off period (maybe 30mins) before a manager can approach the Ref to discuss the match.

In future I hope Refs' tell moany arse Ferguson to do one and refuse to talk to him whatever time after the game.

I am not even sure the ranting is the most persuasive strategy. When I was younger I knew a few football league Refs and Lino’s, and I have always remembered a story a couple of them told me. The Linos had to go into the changing rooms and check the studs, usually this was a difficult task with players moving around and generally being unco-operative. One manager, and one manager alone, told his players in no uncertain terms that they had to line up and do as they were told for the Lino.

Getting your way often requires understanding psychology. He was considered by several to be the ‘friend’ of officials. Whose team do you think got the benefit of the doubt in fifty:fifty’s?

Part of the reason the video system works in cricket and rugby is that generally the decision is accepted - just cannot see that in football unless its so clear cut.

Absolutely. They'll be moaning that there was a foul in the build-up before the time covered by the VAR. It's an abomination which has no place in football.

I would imagine that is for the shooting comment but the leniency would suggest there was some agreement with the rest of his comments. Very surprised expected a bigger fine and a minimum 3 game touch line ban.
