I wonder what 34 year old manager Oldham will appoint next. Hipsters.

Seriously though, I'm not looking for bites here but seriously, if I was an Oldham fan I'd actually embrace a relegation, they have to be the most boring club in England, constantly finishing mid table in the same league. And before you say it, yes, I would rather support County.

Not looking for bites, just asking, aren't you bored?

Why did they appoint him in the first place?

FAO Peterborough United,

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so, so much.
Bit harsh by your board did they really expect you to win today? It's in the FA rule book that the team that has just sacked their manager win the game immediately after. [emoji12]

Oh well at least you will win next game !

Something had to have happened behind the scenes. Appointing a manager in pre-season and then sacking him six games in is madness.

It appears the board have realised that appointing such a novice was a monumental mistake and I'm just thankful they've not rode it out till Xmas. The team we have is easily good enough for a push at the playoffs, but this guy was just woefully out of his depth.

Redfearn was there again today and appeared to say something to Corney on the way out, so I'm hopeful he'll be brought in before Saturday - which I'm now looking forward to.

To answer some of the questions posted further up in this thread....

Would I embrace a relegation? Don't be stupid - look at Stockport and Tranmere. Even Notts County are struggling.

Did we expect to beat Peterborough? Not with Kelly in charge, no. Anyone else, yes.

How ridiculous. 7 games, 2 defeats and you get the sack?!!!

Why do Oldham suddenly think they're world beaters? Very strange.

Scandalous decision, everyone associated with the village of Oldham should be ashamed of themselves.

Not from the 2 recent games I've seen....Oldham have a few decent players but look a lower mid table team.

This is what happens when you appoint a manager no one wanted in the first place, add a bad start and they are gone.

I notice Oldham aren't seeking applications so the Redfearn link would make sense for them.

Said on the FL tonight shit show thing that they're 'appointing from within' - Michael Gray (not that he'd know) said David Dunn.

Seems a bit weird.

Maybe they have presumed "we are not currently welcoming applications" line to mean promoting from within, whereas from what Hurrikean has said it may just be the case that they know they want Redfearn so aren't interviewing anybody else.

Being an outsider its may seem like a strange decision but all fans in the know have seen this coming from the day he was appointed.

He applied for a job he had no real right to get and the board fell for his sales pitch ( which he employed a marketing company to produce)

But there was no substance here

He didnt appoint a no 2

He didnt have any real hand in the key signings of the summer appart from cassidy

He bowed to fan pressure regarding tactics far too easily

No plan b

Poor communication skills. Ive heard the same words spoken in every single interview he has ever done.

The board massively cocked up with this one and most oldham fans wish kelly well in the future. The anger and venom is directed at the board. We have no real football pedigree on the board and arguments were braking out after the 4th between fans and directors. One in particular - well known to the fans for being a ludicrous mouth piece for the club- basically told fans to shut up and sit down.

The club has serious issues at the minute from top to bottom. We actually have a very good squad ( for us) but with the goings on behind the scenes, if they get this appointment wrong we could be looking at the drop next may regardless of the playing staff.

It has to be someone who will command the respect of the dressing room immediately, who will be backed by the fans, and who has contacts within the game. Redfearn is orobably the best fit within our budget at the moment.

Absolutely correct decision imho.

Dale should have been as brutal with Steve Eyre in 2011 - also totally out of his depth.

If I were a Latics fan I'd be cautious about Rrdfearn. Done reasonably well for Leeds (especially with their idiot chairman undermining him) but led Halifax and Scarborough down. I'd prefer Dunn as player-manager with Dean Holden continuing as #2.

Have you got a squad easily good enough for the playoffs? From the outside you've not massively improved from last season and I think expectations of playoffs are perhaps setting your expectations a little high?

Joke of a club.

Dean Holden was caretaker manager last season, was feckin woeful. Lost out on the job to Kelly in the summer. Yet was still kept on as assistant the club should have fucked him off then. He has to go now he's been part of the management team the board has deemed to be not good enough.

The board are inept, we kept the basis of a half decent side, just needed some astute signings led by a strong manager. I thought we had some continuity for once instead of the usual get rid of 10 bring In 10 which is why I thought we'd do better than normal. Instead the club appointed Kelly, never thought he was the right man, but the club have never supported or given him any sort of opportunity to be a success. The rumours of Dunn taking over have been going round ever since he signed as a player. Showing how undermined Kelly has been all along. Absolute c*** trick.

I still would rather be us than Stockport County, who did you play at weekend? Curzon Ashton?

Edit- David Dunn just confirmed interim basis. Jokers.

The board beed to walk it really is that simple. But we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Without any inside knowledge, if it is a choice between corney and co and admin, i really cant fecide which would be more damaging for the club.

Complete bunch of wankers

Interim... doesn't that just mean whilst you look for a new manager like us with Jones?

If he does become your manager he'll be your fourth since February wouldn't he?

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to bite.

as boring as it can get, you should know better than anyone else that relegation isn't a good thing. Those who think they will bounce straight back up are deluded. Hope you enjoyed your draw at home to brackley.

May I also add that those saying we have only lost one in seven are wrong. We've lost 4 in 10 in all comps, winning just one. No tactics there at all. We played one up front against Bradford. Our lone striker then decided to head but a Bradford player and get sent off. Kelly didn't make a change. We played the final fifteen minutes of the first half with no striker and as soon as we cleared the ball it came straight back at us. F rom the outside this may seem a harsh decision, but if you had been at last weeks game, you would understand why he had to go.

Including holden yes. We have had 4 since feb. But johnson left us, holden was intrim also and kelly was a stupid decision. Its not a leeds like decision. Kelly is the only one we have sacked rapidly
