Newport County AFC has been in dialogue with a number of stakeholders in relation to the forthcoming season, specifically in the context of the planned change of ownership and the impact that change has on the required pitch works.

The EFL has agreed to a request from Newport County to postpone any home games until 26 August in order for the club to complete the installation of a new DESSO playing surface at Rodney Parade.

Any Club who is scheduled to play at Newport prior to this date will be asked if they want to reverse the fixture following the confirmation of the League Two schedule on Wednesday 21 June. The decision to reverse the fixture will be at the sole discretion of the Club(s) involved. If the option is declined then matches will be postponed until a later date in the season.

In addition, the EFL has agreed to reverse the fixture for Round One of the Carabao Cup in the event that Newport are drawn at home.

The EFL’s support follows Welsh Rugby Union’s takeover of Newport Gwent Dragons and the facilities at Rodney Parade and the Club is very appreciative of the support the EFL has shown in this complex matter.

Three Newport County fixtures were abandoned or postponed at Rodney Parade during the 2016/17 season.

If the fixtures aren't out yet why can't the EFL just schedule Newport to be away until 26th August, instead of letting clubs decide if they want to play Newport at home instead or postpone the game?

Because common sense is not something usually associated with the EFL.

I guess it could mean that a club may have a run of away games at the end of the season, which may not be desirable particularly if in a basement dogfight or in with a sniff of promotion.

So it's just the Crewe game on 12 August that will need to be switched with the reverse fixture on 24 March. Pitch should be sorted prior to the visit of Chesterfield on 26 August. Fingers crossed ....

Link above for redevelopment plans for Dave. Was put on the back burner following recession but WRU / Newport City Council are set to develop the north terrace. Finally looks like things are coming together. Exciting times, will be great to concentrate on the football rather than issues with Dave.
