If so, that is a tiny budget to work from, I think even accy work off about £650k.

Don't know the actual figures but I do know someone heavily involved with Crawley at board level. He told me last season they needed 3500 + crowds a week to break even and were losing money each week. The money from the estate of the dead owner was gone and the man in HK was no longer funding. From what he said 500 thousand would appear unlikely but a figure under a million would be a given. Without further funding of course. Apparently they have decided to answer to all their problems is a new stadium in the Peas Pottage area. Where that gets funded from I don't know.

If you've no debts and aren't paying sill wages, it's feesable to survive easily on crowds of 2,000 - Accy, Morecambe and Dagenham manage it just fine.

Depends what contracts they have with existing players/staff coming down from league 1.

They've been at their current stadium for less than 20 years!

It's easy to see a budget being slashed to £500K, if an investor doesn't invest and a club haemorrhages money to the extent Crawley have done so (£5.5 million in 2 years) then we have another Rushden. Rushden's budget was about £400-£500K in 2005-06 when they went down and they went down with an absolutely crap squad.

Basically simple economics, huge losses, decline in solidarity payments due to relegation, loss of gate money due to relegation, players on decent contracts (Crawley started cutting their budget drastically around Winter time so those on decent contracts will be offloaded) declining attendance and season ticket sales, it can easily be £500K when you've got to service debts as well as getting round FFP.

Macclesfield had a budget of £250K this season because they spunked all their cash reserves up the wall in 2012-13 by trying to get promotion to League Two with the biggest budget in their history. Just means Crawley will have a wafer thin squad with a vast majority of earners getting £700-£800 a week on average.

Yates is not a bad appointment at all, part of the reason Cheltenham went down was their lack of faith in him to turn it around after all he'd achieved there. That and appointing Paul Buckle.

The way I heard it - and there's no reason to assume that this is correct either - is that the budget is to be slashed BY £500k rather than TO £500k. A budget of £1 million if what I have read is to be believed. Still a pretty tight budget though for league 2 but not quite as bad as £500k.
I have no way of knowing what the real truth is.
