My parents met arguing over a side of meat at Eastville market. I believe their first date was at the Clifton Berni Inn.
I know everyone will find that fucking fascinating

My dad and his mate were at a disco and saw two girls they liked and my dad claimed dibs on the blonde one, only for his mate to push him out the way at the last second leaving my dad to chat up the brunette one, who he ended up marrying and having two kids with.

One of the kids is me, in case that wasn't obvious.

First floor lab at whatever the Venn building at Hull Uni was called back in the day. Their eyes met over a petri dish of candida, in a bleak presaging of the calibre of lifeform their union would bring into existence a few years later.

My parents split and divorced when I was 4 or 5 so I have zero memory of them being together. They've rarely been on decent terms ever since so this isn't really the sort of topic that ever crops up! I struggle to get my head around them ever being a couple because I've always seen them separately, and they are totally different chalk and cheese people.

But whatever happened, they somehow got together 30 years ago, got married, and brought me into this weird world. So every cloud.

Then my dad goes and indoctrinates me into supporting Bournemouth. Git!

My parents were married for 55 years until death intervened.

I'm glad my dad didn't indoctrinate me, otherwise I'd be a Chelski supporter - Urgh!

A Sheffield University DISCOTHEQUE in the mid 70s I BELIEVE. It always seems a bit peculiar to me that I owe my existence to a chance encounter in a city I have never visited, especially as both my parents grew up in London.

Actually, no. Forget Sheffield, it's much stranger to imagine either of them BOPPING AWAY in a DISCOTHEQUE in the first instance.

Apparently my old man pushed my mum into the deep end of the pool at Dovecot baths when she was about 10 years old and then had to rescue her once he realised she couldn't swim. They then got together around 6-7 years later and it was years after this that they realised she was the girl he'd done this to. Yeah, so that's how and where they met. My dad nearly drowning my mum. And she still can't swim.

Met in a pub in Bloxwich (bonus points if you know where Bloxwich is, unless you live locally), where my Dad began flicking beer mats at my Mom, went to her flat eventually (not the same night), and my Dad wouldn't leave. 3 years later, I pop up, 6 years after that, they get married, 12 years later and they split up.

My dad's ship was alongside (not his ship, he was an engineer on board) in Glasgow one time and they invited a bunch of nurses on board one evening. My mother was one of those nurses.

Wait.

I somehow missed this first time round? Has your dad told your mum this story?
