We've got Accrington at their place. Hopefully we can put today's pathetic performance behind us and get a win. After today, I have absolutely no idea what Hughes will change. Sounds like Cook might be out for this, Stubbs too. Odusina has been frozen out despite being a decent performer in pre-season and so I'd like to see him given a chance. We've not really had a cup run since the Parkinson days, so hopeful of one being due.

2-1 City.

Wigan at home, on sky.
Parky has already said he will be making a lot of changes for this one. Won't be far off a full starting 11 change I think
1-3 Wigan

We drew the highest ranked team in the cup, Southampton, not sure why it’s not on telly but there you go.

Especially with you being sleeping giants and all that etc

It’s what dreams are made of.

In all seriousness though, it probably is a better pick than Wigan Wrexham

Sunderland away, I can't see anything other than a hammering, it's a free hit I suppose but I'd rather we make changes and prioritise Swindon next weekend.

Williams has shown nothing but disdain for the cups in his time here but I think we might have to go strong after today just to try and get things going. Lincoln at home is a good tie to be fair, but of a derby so should be a good crowd/atmosphere and reasonably winnable.

Not even big spending gillingham could get in the way of the wrexham wankfest.

At least given todays efforts they’ll be plenty of goals.

Grimsby at home. Meh.

I’d imagine we’d play some fringe players (as i’d suspect grimsby would also) good if we go through but if grimsby do wish them a decent tie in the 2nd round.

Interested to see how Saints approach our game to be fair. They aren't going to win the Cup but absolutely could win their league, so I wonder if they'll turn up to Priestfield a bit half arsed. I don't expect to beat them, but then I didn't expect to beat Brentford last season either.

Not looking forward to it.

Free hit. Hopefully a chance to get some minutes into players short of match fitness ready for Wimbledon on Saturday.

Pity it's on TV though, could be a cricket score if we play like yesterday.

My only hope is Sunderland don't finishing playing until about 7pm tonight, which surely means we're going to see an entirely new XI from them on Tuesday. Gives us half a shot.

My concern though is that we have little scope to change things. And in doing so, we might well get hammered as happened at Grimsby last season. My team would be:

Booth
Cooney, O'Riordan, Demetriou, Adebisi
Thomas, Tabiner, Griffiths
Tracey, Baker-Richardson, Holicek

Pompey at home for us and, despite the priority being the League, we have had some pretty entertaining games in this competition and I expect something similar on Tuesday. In the last few years we have beaten Bristol City on penalties, to set up an away fixture with Brentford, and last season entertained Brighton...we were able to see Mitoma and Ferguson, who scored his first goal for Brighton, before anyone had really heard of them. I expect us to put out a team missing a few players who featured yesterday, the manager confirmed as much in his post match interview, but hopefully we will give Pompey a decent game.

We have a great chance on winning our first ever league cup game tomorrow. Providing Cambridge don’t take it too seriously

Well, it'll be our Trophy team but they'll be after a win - if only to get starts in the league team.

Of course you'll walk it if you play tomorrow.

More of a chance than our prior 2 first round ties but still comfortably 2nd favourites in my book.

Would be quite nice to beat the bandwaggoners but Williams’ couldn’t give a shit attitude to the cups worked quite well last season, so I’m happy to get battered as we’re still finding our feet in the league.

Play the kids at Sunderland. Barely any money in this cup so give the likes of Owen Lunt a game. Rest the injury prone players. Not arsed if we lose, I want at least 4 points from two very winnable games vs Swindon and Newport instead.

If we want a successful cup run we really need to be putting teams like Mansfield to the sword.

2-1 Town.

We’ll likely go close to full-strength against Judas’ Bolton tomorrow. We beat Blackpool last season as part of our great start and it added to the momentum, so I expect Wild will want to do the same again this year.

Salford really should lodge an appeal about how Wrexham have stolen the TV rights that they had nailed on for the last few seasons. Surely Preston vs Salford was huge. Outrageous from Sky.

Away to Posh - a tie to cream me jeans over.

A good warm up for hammering Crewe on Saturday.

Given his post match interview and his general dislike of cups I think we will make a few changes. Wouldn't surprise me if players like Tipton, TAR , Crowley and Scott get minutes
