Orient
No Orient players on that list? That's just madness.

O's players easily worth a place in the team of the season:

- Liam Kelly. Box to box midfielder who's not afraid to get stuck in and do the dirty work - so long as the dirty work involves throwing cheeky, 6 ft 2" ball boys to the ground. Worth his place in the top 11 alone for ensuring throw ins are taken nice and quickly - those seconds add up.

- Ollie Palmer. Sublime, 7ft 4" striker. If we're basing the team of the season on height alone, and I assume we are, I am amazed Ollie has not been included - surely there's not 11 players taller than him I this league?

- Dean Cox. No longer an Orient player, but he always will be in a way. He's so good, he doesn't even need to play any games and he'd still walk into the top 11. That he is not included here is a crime, and highlights the clear lack of thought that has gone into compiling this team of the season.

- Teddy Mezague. We bought him from Europe, with a 7 month long injury. That's right, he's so good, we couldn't wait for him to get off the treatment table, we just had to have him. He's also from Belgium, which is pretty exotic. Despite being declared fit, it looks to me like he's been playing with 2 broken legs - so imagine how good he'll be when he's actually match ready!

Forde!? Really!? His fuck ups have cost us a fair few points this season.

Joint best defence in the league doesn't get a single player?

Can't speak for the chosen LB and we've not exactly torn up any trees but I think any side in this league would love to have Danny Andrew and I'll be pretty shocked if he doesn't get himself a League One club next season, let alone stay here.

Things like this always wind people up quite a bit, and everyone will have issues if their favourite player isn't in. Having said that, I don't have too many issues with the selections but I agree with Bucket that Forde in goal is the one glaring error. Only in there because he has a good defence in front of him. His saves-to-shots ratio can't be too good. There must be better keepers around - McCormick? Norris?

I'd have Clarke over Burgess too I think. Forde is a strange one, very very good when he wants to be but has made quite a few errors.

I agree with what you say about these beauty contests. Forde does look an odd one, though I would not say McCormick has played well enough this year consistently to warrant being in this team. I knew Bradley would be in, he was one of the cast iron certainities along with Coppinger and Watkins. I did not expect Carey to be in, the stats look good, but he has only actually played as well as last year since Kennedy and Sarcovic came in Janaury. I think many teams sussed out how to neutralise him. The one I would give a shout for us in Oscar Threlkeld, the only problem is that he has played both full backs and more than one midflield position. If you want a utility player he has been most impressive - when a midfielder comes in for both starting full backs and plays better than them, you have a player. He will be in league 1 next year with us or someone else.

you say Watkins was a cast-iron certainty, i'm frankly a bit surprised. On his day he is very good, undoubtedly a technically gifted skillful player.... however he hasnt banged in 20 this season and set up another 20. You don't win games by turning defenders inside out, it's about getting goals. To be honest of that front 3 I think Marquis is the most effective striker.

I thought Threlkeld should have got in at right back over Mellor. Watkins was almost non existent this season until City went on their run. Big talent though.

Also hasn't the Wycombe keeper supposedly been great this year? Could have been a shout.

Marquis is by far the best striker I've seen at the Abbey this season. Proper center forward.

Agreed, what you'd call a proper cf and Hylton also falls into that category for me. We'll also have the pleasure of seeing Matt Godden up close on Saturday :ffs:

and oh, in reply to K-win's post, trust me Norris isn't that great though I'm a fan of his. He may be an excellent shot stopper but that's about it.

It was selected by journos, and they are quite likely to be influenced by what others write as much as what they see themselves when they are probably focusing on their own players. Watkins achieved a lot of noise.

Who voted on this? And don't they realise that there's almost two months of the season remaining?

Dumb.

Q1: "The teams were compiled as part of the EFL Awards of 2017, and are based on votes submitted by a regional media representative of each of the 72 clubs who nominated their top 11 players and a manager."

Q2: Yes (probably)

Blackman started the season very well but made a few mistakes in a short space of time before he improved again but that probably went against him.

Marquis was very average against us, Bogle and Akinde ripped us apart though. I reckon Wyke would've been in there had he stayed.

Blackman played very well against us, best 'keeper I've seen this season.

No surprise none of our lot made the team considering our collapse but Nicky Adams might've still made it. He's been quite poor for a few months but I think he's still got the most assists in the league.

Surely some of Cheltenham's League 2 promotion winners should have got in? :dk:

Dan Holman was actually named for every position on the pitch, but the EFL decided to give some of the other players a chance this year. Bit unfair, if you ask me. He's clearly earned those titles.

I hear that Harry Pell is thinking of giving up football to take up Gymnastics.

His preferred discipline is the floor, as that's where he spends most of his time.
