English national anthem

Didn't know where else to post this. Saw on Sky News a debate about whether to choose an alternative English national anthem to be song at sporting events, as opposed to 'God Save The Queen', which would be the specific British anthem.
I'm not English or British or even Commonwealth and there're lot of emotions in this obviously, but apparently I'm anglophile enough to keep thinking 'Jerusalem'.

I do not understand the obsession for changing everything either.

Would still not be uniquely English. Plus it doesn't have lyrics.

I think they could choose another anthem for sure.Wont speculate which one, and as the OP said I understand the emotions linked with the actual anthem, but maybe it could be changed?

we nearly get this as our national anthem short after ww2 (indeed it was the national anthem of both german nations at the Olympics until 1972), but they decided to keep the 'song of the germans'.

they made an awful choice imho, you couldnt get a better one
