So a new era. Watching this whilst the highlights of the Coventry game are showing on Sky. Still tough to take.

We have had a good preseason, albeit not against anyone in particular. This will be a bit of an unknown.

Seems that Forte may be a doubt, but I think Abrahams can do a job alongside Stockley.

A steady start to the season. 1-1 with a goal from Boateng

We have a weak looking defence, a decent midfield and a terrible attack with possibly the worst striker in the division leading the line for us.

We’ll probably have some good spells in the game due to the good players we have in the middle, but at both ends of the pitch we’ll fall short.

Exeter 3-0 Carlisle

Forte confirmed to be fit to play and luckily Stockley’s missus had her baby in the week so he will be playing up top too...

We’ve got a very good looking starting lineup and MT has been a breath of fresh air. Also looks like it will almost be a full house (ok so we’re still only have half a ground for a couple more months). But the atmosphere around the club is positive.

Carlisle seem like they’re in transition and lack any obvious goal threat. The comments I’ve seen suggest they’re not confident at all.

Nailed on 1-0 loss. I can see it now!!

Always very excited on the opening day, even watching at midnight in Oz. Big changes for us, and a big level of expectancy seems to be spreading across the fan base. Not sure about Carlisle this year, but reading stuff on here they are not too confident. Think we will win narrowly, going for 1-0 with Stockley finding the net UTC

I think Exeter will have a bit of a new manager bounce, new stadium bounce, new era and all that, they'll be up for this. I hope Sheridan isn't as bad at motivating as the County fans suggest because he'll need to motivate the hell out of us.

Hopefully Bennett's learned a little bit about football over the summer because he has a good striker's touch, he just lacks the intelligence to position himself or to carve out chances under pressure. Either that or there's some plan for our other attacking players, the likes of Hope, Yates and Campbell to do Bennett's thinking for him.

Seriously, Exeter v Carlisle opening day?

Which twat at the EFL decided that was a good idea, I know you have to play everyone at some point but a trek like that first game of the season ffs?

Never know what to expect on the opening day of the season.

Think Shoddy has called it right. There is a real buzz around at ECFC at the moment and Taylor has said all the right things, but the time for talking is done.

Suspect we'll line up:

Pym
Sweeney Brown Martin Moxey
Holmes Taylor Boateng Law
Stockley Forte

It will be interesting to see how this works as there isn't a real defensive midfielder in that side but Taylor has said he wants us to be more positive this season so I'm looking forward to it.

UTC!

May well be because Exeter's stadium isn't finished yet, so start with someone who won't bring too many fans.

Of course i’ll Give them a chance you tosspot, and I’ll support them.

The above is simply a prediction, just like the Exeter fans have given theirs. If you don’t know what a prediction means, google it.

2 seasons ago we had Portsmouth away first, then Exeter away last.

This season we have Exeter away first, then Yeovil away last.

It’s shit.

Similar to your comments before each England game wouldn't you say?
So what's the difference?

Jamie Devitt and Mike Jones (our 2 best midfielders and in Devitt’s case top scorer last season) on the bench.

End this season now.

Well it's certainly surprising, my only hope is that Sheridan knows what he's doing here, and also that being on the bench in this game doesn't indicate where Sheridan sees Jones and Devitt's future at the club

Surprising yes. Fucking crazy as well. Might as well just hand them the points on a plate.

I predicted 3-0 but I’m now fearing 4 or 5.

I know what a prediction is mate but it's the way you say it that gets on my nerves, so critical and hopeless.

Hey does anyone know the score? Are we winning yet? :)

Changing formation already. Reminds me of the season with Kavanagh when he had a plan for how we were going to play that lasted until half time in the first game.

lucky to still be in it. Should really be 3 or 4-1.

Get Devitt on you thick c*nt Sheridan.

When you’ve got a shit defence you need to have a bit of creativity going forward.

Exeter will score again so we need 2 or 3 more goals to get anything from this game.

We’re weak as piss at both ends of the pitch. It’s hard to know what to do when you’re so inept in key areas. Do you flood the midfield, defend deep and hope it protects the fragile back 4, or do you go all out attack and hope the sheer numbers will result in a goal or 2 while risking being absolutely raped on the break?

You hav to feel a bit sorry for Sheridan, but he’s made a balls up with the dropping of Devitt and Jones.

An utterly appalling start to the season, but so predictable given the mess that our squad is in. The defence is shit, the attack is shit and we have fuck all in reserve meaning a couple of injuries and we’re down to the youth team.

Could have been 5 or 6 on another day. It would be a miraculous achievement if we’re a football league team next season.

The only positive from today is Bennett managed to score. He’s shite but maybe an early goal in the season will give him a boost.

We were excellent first half, the Carlisle goal was out of nowhere. Second half we were quite poor, though it may have been due to the heat.
However, Nicky Law was a class act. And fantastic to see three debutants score, a capacity crowd (albeit reduced) and a good atmosphere.

Things are looking good at the moment!

It's time for us Carlisle fans to face the fact that our club custodians want us to be a non league club because that's exactly where we belong the way things are going with our useless owners who dont give a crap along with our shit tip rotting stadium and the fact our club is not even up for sale.

c***

Honestly im fucking sick of it!!

we were dire, can't really think of much else to add. That was thoroughly depressing and puts to bed all my vain hopes we might actually be decent.

Same here MATE.

We are past a joke now the way our club is being run, we've had 10 years of this lot now, 10 bloody years.

It's like we have to wait till they're all fucking dead of old age before anything can change.

the midfield we expected to be good were poor. From the sounds of things, only Hope, Yates and Fryer were decent.

It would help if the manager actually picked our 2 best midfielders.

Sounds like he’s close to getting a new CB (maybe Gerrard?) so hopefully that will solidify us a bit, it would also allow us to move Liddle to right back if Miller carries on todays form.

The striker situation worries me. Yes good that Bennett scored today but we can’t rely on him, he’s all round hold up and link up play is shit. But he’s all we’ve got, 1 fucking striker.

We might as well give the youth players a chance now since we are already crap.
