Not sure what to expect really and have a feeling it could be a low scoring game. We’ve struggled to find our early season rhythm of late but the squad is mostly fully fit so we really ‘should’ be getting 3 points here.

That’s said, Grimsby will probably be hard to break down and if they can get ahead it could be long afternoon, so the first goal is crucial.

I think we will edge this 1-0 with a late penalty from Reuben Reid. Crowd of 3995 and 189 from North East Lincs.

Exeter are probably the first good team we’ll have played since Wycombe so we’re definitely going to concede. It’s also highly unlikely we’ll score, seeing as we’ve drawn blanks in about 5 of the last 6 games? Something like that anyway. We’ve no quality (except Dembele) and slow as anything. 3-0 Exeter.

We haven't played well for a while. Definitely feel it's about time to bring McAlinden back into the starting 11. Reid hasn't been on form lately so I think I'd give him a rest and leave Stockley in.

We'll probably lose 0-1.

Will be more than that as we've sold 230 as of 10:00 this morning.

It's a long old poke to SJP from o'er there. Safe travels to those making the journey.

Hopefully we get back to winning ways here after a bit of a rough patch. Would definitely like to see MacAlinden start because it forces the defence and midfield to actually play the ball on the deck. It's too easy for the defence to justify hoofing it when we've got two "big men" up front. We look better when we try and play prettier football and Macca forces us to do that more than Reid.

This will be my first game since the debacle at Mansfield (lost 4-1 by scoring an own goal and giving away two penalties). I expect us to be as boring as hell and lose 1-0.

Fair play, that’s a decent amount considering the distance.
I'm quite surprised at it to be honest as quite a few who normally do away games are in Belgium to watch Eendracht Aalst as a load of their fans came over to watch us at Orient last season as there seems to be a bit of a pact between both sets of fans.
There's a minibus going to Exeter from my work as well leaving Friday dinner and coming back Sunday afternoon.

Unchanged for the 7th League and Cup (not Mickey Mouse Checkatrade) game in a row.

Unchanged.

This team that NEVER scores a fucking goal.

Marvellous.

Yep still the same limit as the new away won’t be in place till next season.
Cheers pal.
Totally unrelated question - our kid has applied to Exeter Uni for 2018. Ive been to Exeter a few times with work and to watch County and like the city. Would you recommend it - good place to spend 3 years ?

fantastic place. the uni has a lovely campus and the city is wonderful. i have a lot of friends who work at the uni and they all love it.
go down and spend a day doing touristy stuff - can easily spend a day walking around cathedral green and the quayside. the Royal Albert Memorial Museum is free entry and always good for a cup of coffee.

special mentions:
the old firehouse - fantastic range of ales and ciders and awesome home made food, their late night pizzas and sunday roast are banging.
the black horse - ECFC supporters pub with a friendly atmosphere.
the waterfront pizza place - an exeter classic. they serve "dustbin lid" pizzas, real good.
the hole in the wall - quirky bar with loads of pool tables.
timepiece - probably the biggest nightclub in exeter - always full of exeter uni students.
the cavern - brilliant underground (literally and culturally) punk club. best place for gigs.
the pheonix arts center - gigs and club nights which are too big to have in the cavern.
the rusty bike - nice cocktail bar underneath a bike shop.
mansons guitar shop - if you like guitars its worth a visit.
northcott theatre - the main theatre and classical concert hall for the city is actually on the Exeter Uni campus. often puts on some good plays and stuff if thats your cup of tea.

if you like more conventional nightclubs theres mosaic (now renamed "Rosies" i think?) had some decent nights out there but its not particularly unique, hence i prefer timepiece.

Wow such a surprise that this unchanged team who never score a fucking goal fired blanks again, who'd have thought it eh?

I've had enough of this tepid try not to lose attitude instead of actually going out to win games.
Fuck off Slade, we've all had enough of this shit now, being mid table I can take but having the dullest boring team I can ever remember watching isn't how I want to spend my Saturday afternoons so while the fare on offer is this tripe, I won't be going again.

Exeter fans, this is no way reflective on losing to yourselves as there is no shame in that at all, this is a culmination of months of watching this crap yet every week it's an unchanged team despite it being a snooze fest week on week.

Rant over.

Yes mate, I’d certainly recommend it but I am, of course, pretty biased!

We’ve got everything really, a nice city centre that has plenty of decent bars and restaurants. Nightlife in general is pretty good. We’re also close to the coast and Dartmoor if they’re into that sort of thing.

The Uni itself has a fantastic reputation so I’d say it would bbe a decent option if they get offered a place, so good luck to them!

Very comfortable win today and we never really looked like we were going to be troubled other than Pym making a very good save off a Vernon header, which he should have done much better with.

Great to see McAlinden start and he ran all day and put the Grimsby defence under lots of pressure, which he capped with a really really good goal. Also great to see Stockley get another goal, I think that’s his 6th since rejoining so he’s doing well. Lee Holmes was also superb today with his willingness to beat the full back at every turn - he makes such a difference. A slight negative is that we still seem to be too keen to hit long balls which I’m not comfortable with. When we run with the ball we look good and we have the players to do that but it seems to be that the first thought is to get the ball to Stockley so he can win the header...

As for Grimsby, you can see there’s little confidence in the team. You can tell that Dembele is a real talent and he showed some nice play but he was get frustrated at teammates not making the runs he wanted at times. I’m also surprised that Matt isn’t starting as he’s got to be a better option to Vernon?

Oh and who’s the number 20 who came on second half? He looked like Ali Dia’s shite brother!

Got soaked and watched us completely outplayed by Exeter. They had better players, adapted to the conditions well and their defence bullied our forwards throughout the game. Enjoyed my pre-match beers in The Beer Cellar, Old Fire Station and Oddfellows though. Never known our support so quiet either, I know we had a few of the noisey ones in Belgium but us older guys just couldn't be bothered yesterday, just like the team.

Cheers Trapdoor and Moomin. Thanks for your posts. Exeter will def be one of her choices.

See you lot on New Years Day. We’ve got 2 Nando’s and the biggest charity shop in Wales btw. Just saying ...

Oh look we play a decent team and get battered. Hopefully he'll be gone before January but I won't hold my breath.

Fucking hell we're boring and shite. Complete joke we're continuing to play Vernon, who offers absolutely nothing, and an utterly useless left-back who'd be out of his depth in the Conference North. Slade is a clown.

We aren’t strong or fast enough to play hoofball and the players aren’t good enough to play passing football. So what are we? Shit.

Been saying that all season, the boring unbeaten run and sitting in 12th didn't change things
I know! Like I said earlier in the thread, we didn’t play anyone good during that run, if we were slightly more unlucky then we’d have lost half of the drawn games.
