Expecting us to go much further than the first team. We would probably slaughter everyone in that draw, to be honest. Will get knocked out by a PL Academy eventually.

That is a bit of a stupid statement that to be honest. I've just had a look that (before this morning) Orient have PL11 W11 in the EFL YA. Its not really a great indicator because some teams use the competition for different purposes - some, like us, have been sending the older ones to U21 football and have used the opportunity to blood some U16s.

I think Luton played you 2 weeks ago and we lost 5-3, so hardly "slaughtered". We were the only EPPP3 team to get to the Quarter Finals and beat you in the competition last season, as well as winning both the League and the League Cup. About 10 players have gone on to play for the First Team under Nathan Jones this calendar year and our development team have already beaten comfortably an EPPP1 academy this season.

Youth development is a funny one though, ain't it. The actual results of the team are largely irrelevant, it's about producing one or two players each year who are actually good enough.

We got embarrassed by Romulus of darkest non-league in this and are never particularly successful at youth level, but when we played you a couple of weeks ago we had two academy graduates starting (and a third who would if fit), whereas none of your 14 used players were. All in the output, my friend.

Absolutely - Coventry lost to Dunkirk! Our team yesterday only had the one homegrown player in our starting XI, but several others on the fringes.
Because we've cheated in the EFL Trophy, we've used 14 youth/academy players in our matchday 18s this season.

I find it sad though that two NL teams had to be given byes in the first round, as a couple like Wycombe can't/won't field a side. There's probably 400-500 teams in this competition and they can't be bothered with an U18 side?

In some ways I can understand it because the costs are so high and if you do produce one player who is worth a lot EPPP means they'll probably leave for buttons.

It definitely takes something away though and for us the stated purpose seems to be not to produce stars but a couple of solid players each year to bull out the squad with homegrown kids rather than journeymen.

Seems to be working for us so far and there might always be one Jordan Richards who pops up!

To a point I agree with you, however Wycombe have just received a wedge for Jordan Ibe. Its difficult, when we were in NL we had to spend over £400,000 a year on maintaining the academy. Its something us Luton fans are historically very proud of.

In NL, we originally had no protection, so teams (cough Peterborough cough) were around us like vultures trying to pick them off one by one. Very few of those who we, as a result, sold for decent money have broken through and a few have disappeared altogether. And those who have, have hefty sell on clauses.

I think as a result, more teams have tried to focus on those players who can't break through to their PL/Champ first team. In our case, Cameron McGeehan and Pelly Ruddock for instance.

May I respectfully point out that the junior mighty U's have made it to the second round, but Kenny has deemed otherwise. What makes it even worse in my eyes is that he could've omitted the Pish game for instance, but no, he decided to omit us.

Kenny, this is UNFORGIVABLE

That's because we couldn't afford to keep our academy going after our previous chairman left us £6,000,000 in debt.Wycombe fans are being kept in the dark regarding the money from Ibe's transfer but it seems Liverpool are stalling on the money they owe us,hopefully we can start the academy again when we finally get the money owed.

We've beaten Chesterfield 2-1 tonight, and we'll play Barnsley away next.

We seem to have a decent youth team at the moment, hopefully one or two break through into the first team in the coming years.

Draw has thrown up a weird situation in that our U18's will be playing their next fixture as the 'away' side at their own ground, this is due to Spurs youth teams using The Lamex as their base ground too. Should hopefully contribute towards a healthy crowd!

Unlucky to Exeter's kiddies who bow out to Wigan in extra time tonight. Yeovil are already through and will be hoping to progress all the way to play Luton, who have been given a bye to the final and were in no way exterminated 4-zip by Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend. Upcoming matches with League Poo interest:

Weds:
Leicester vs. Clown College
Cambridge
vs. Bournemouth

Fri:
Fulham vs. Mansfield
Barnsley vs. Carlisle

If the young clowns and Carlisle are both victorious, it will guarantee a basement-dweller in the fifth round.

Our yoofs just beat Bournemouth 2-1, coming from behind with two late goals. We've got Brighton or Derby away in the next round.

Edit: Brighton away.

Well done Cambridge! We fell 3-1 at the King Power, but were unlucky to lose by all accounts. First defeat in 20-odd games.

Best of luck to Mansfield and Carlisle on Friday.

I hear you've now received the money and are debt free which is good news if true.
The starting 11 in our last league game contained 5 players that have come through our youth system, plus another on the bench so I'd say it's working well for us.

Our youth team beat Barnsley away 1-0 tonight, great result and a trip to Leicester is the reward.

It seems like we've got a few promising young players coming through at the moment, hopefully see some make it into the first team.

Great result, shame we couldn't match it and meet up in the next round.

Got over our disappointment by beating Northampton this morning and winning our league with 5 games to spare. Which can't be right, as Luton are in our division, so surely they must be running away with it...?
