There's already a takeover allegedly going ahead and one thing that you can say in the plus column for Fenty is that he has spoken on numerous times about not handing the club over to anyone dodgy. I don't think Fenty really genuinely wants to sell up anyway. However, cheers for the link...hopefully nothing comes of this. Have you got any other links that did the rounds on the Notts forum(s) when he was linked with you lot?

Yeah. I'm sure JF will be very diligent when he finally hands over the reins, as has been showed in the recent take over bid.

Interesting this, Jeff Stelling recently did an interview and said a 'consortium' tried to buy Pools over the summer, same people perhaps trying to get their hands on any club?

"We were approached by a consortium this summer who wanted to buy us out, and came offering a fortune," Stelling admitted. "It transpired that one of them had just spent a few years in prison for fraud... so we said 'thank you very much, no thanks, on your bike'.

Hardy likes taking once decent clubs who play in black and white into the conference.

Looks a shoe in :animatedf:

Alan Hardy is literally the most useless person you could want involved in a football club if he’s not putting up any money, that was his only real benefit to Notts County and that nearly came to bite them too!

I think the anti-Fenty thing is drastically overplayed in the grand scheme of things, don’t you?

Yes and no. He's clearly nowhere near as bad as Oyston, Ken Anderson, Hardy etc and Grimsby will never go out of business under his ownership as he is a genuine fan who cares about the town.

But, at the same time, they're never going to be a progressive club while he's in charge. They'll tread water at best. And would you put it past them going back to non-league at some point? That's a shocking indictment. He seems to treat the fans with contempt as well and loves a gaff, be it embarrassing himself on a message board or saying something stupid everytime he's interviewed on the radio or speaking at a fans' forum.

Once decent , I'll take it I remember some of those years :2thumb: Great days as a football fan, you should try it some time :shifty:

It’s a nice history to have, like the British empire, relevant once, not now. Better to have than not to have, but well Grimsby will know like mansfield the pitfalls of the banararama league full of nothing and embarrassment. The *stain* of being in it.

Oh the thought of it is too much to bare. Instantly takes away the dignity of a club.

Fortunately Grimsby is like mansfield, they’re not in the bananarama league and won’t be next season

When are you going to have your period of 'British Empire' ??? 1897 to ??????

You are right it's "better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all" You of course will have to trust me on that :ohy:

You are correct neither Stags nor Town will be in the Non League next season, yet both have been not too long ago and both before the Stylish Pies. We certainly lost that race to the bottom, distant 3rd.

As GG says, he will never call in his loans that he’s put into the club because he does care.
That is a double-edged sword though. You’d think a chairman/owner would show some form of investment after 17? years at a club but no, John is not leaving until he gets back every penny he has put in. £2+million took us from the Championship to the Conference. The last two years, he has taken out £200k to whittle down his debt, while the club and team is starved of anything of actual quality. We don’t even have a manager after over a month without one!

When you are guest of the club at Blundell Park, John and his delightful wife literally couldn't be nicer.

Still, you could have Fatman hardy.

It’s one of those where you realise even if it’s bad, it’s not “that” bad. One thing he can be counted to do is keep his promises though - he stated to all the highly unfortunate notts county fans that he’d take them out of league 2! How right he was

In Fenty you might have someone annoying but you know he’s got your clubs best interest at heart and he won’t be reckless, we’ve both been In the conference and know how god awful it is - he wouldn’t allow that to happen to you.

You worse yet you could also have Keith Haslam as a leech on the club from 1993 till 2012. That's a hell of a long time to do damage and take money out of the club.

Adam you remember Keith ?

Mr Fenty is neither Haslam not Hardy thank god

Fenty is a god compared to those 2.

It’s a case if he careful what you wish for, have a bad season or a crazy owner like hardy and you could easily end up in the conference.

The idea of being in the conference makes me feel queasy, it’s almost unimaginable.

I'm not surprised that must be what 5 seasons in the last 12 in the conference does to you.

So true crazy owner Hardy or bad parasite owner like Haslam, easily means the previously unthinkable happens as we both know.

Exactly, which is why we’re so happy to have decent owners now - though far from perfect.

All you have to do is look at chesterfield - more likely to go down than up this season - for what a bad owner can do, it seems to be hitting home with notts fans now as well. I’m sure the enthralling double header with Maidenhead over Christmas won’t help.

Alas going back to Grimsby - it could be worse!

Surely it hits with football fans of every club during the first couple of seasons in Non League? I'm sure Mansfailed fans had many 'hit home' moments during those 5 seasons?

No different for anyone. Hardy had a dramatic and disastrous impact on Notts, Haslam caused a long slow death of the Stags over many years . The history books back both these statements up

He already allowed it to happen we went down with Fenty as owner, Fenty has been our owner since 2004 in that time we had one leave 2 playoff failure not long after. Since then our highest position was last season 14th in life 2!

15 years of being a bottom half life 2 side or worse and we are not improving, in fact he is taking his money back each season instead of investing.

Yes he has our best interests at heart yes he won't allow us to go bust, but you have to question where are we actually going under him?

Unfortunately football these days money is the driving factor and there is far too much of it in the game, just look at Luton spent a massive fortune getting back into the championship and now their owners are complaining they can't compete in it because it is stupid money up there.

We have to decide do we want to continue to limp along with no investment and hope to get lucky one season or face relegation battles back to the conference every season or do we want change.

Personally I don't know what I want, I'm not really enjoying watching us at the minute and haven't for a few years but then I also don't want to see us go bust. The question is do we risk have money bags owners and seeing some football fortune with the chance of disappearing or do we stagnate and become nothing more than a lower leg 2 /non lge side

Be careful what you wish for, you can easily end up with much worse than Fenty. I mean even the Radford have some clear downfalls despite being in the top tier of English football ownership.

Our managerial record in particular in the biggest downfall, it’s more than outweighed with all the good stuff mind.

A few clubs already know they can't compete financially, so they adopt a philosophy and stick to it. It's paid dividends for ourselves over the years, it's allowed Brentford and Bristol City to compete in a league where they develop players and sell them on in order to get on an even keel with bankrolled teams, it's allowed sides like Colchester and Exeter to have strong young squads on a low budget. It can be done, but too many chairmen are so shit scared of a bad run of games that they'd rather sack a manager and bring in a dinosaur with a short-term plan of hoofball that eventually drives the fans away than give any long-term philosophy a chance.

More League Two teams need to go back to basics. Throwing money around in the lower leagues got the likes of Chesterfield, Notts County and Orient (under Becchetti) to the Conference. Mansfield have also continually failed to achieve promotion with a bankrolled squad. Get a plan, stick to it for a few seasons and you'll never know where you end up...

Another Fenty interview he says they have been speaking to two parties, one (Shutes) for nearly two years and another for 9 months and says Hardy is involved with neither of them.

Also says it's now time either party puts their money where there mouth is because GTFC is fed up of talking and needs to see action. He will be recommending to the board that they put a deadline on talks and if nothing happens will stop talking to both and look to relocate themselves.

Has suggested that they won't just give the club over and walk away until they can prove they have the clubs interests at heart. Will be expecting them to buy shares in the club at a similar amount to Fenty and they will have exclusivity on stadium relocation and if they prove themselves will then let them buy out Fentys shares and takeover the club.
