Sorry for the non footy topic, off on a stag do in your neck of the world in a fortnight (there sat/sun), mate refused to fly and we've done a load nights across the country so wanted somewhere new, got Friday in London but rest in Southend.

I've never been as the only time we've played in my lifetime at yours was 2006 and i was skint.

So
Bars/places you recommend
Bars/places to avoid.

Most of us are mid 30s and enjoy a decent pint and will be no doubt watching the world cup.

Cheers

I was hoping you were doing a Lance and offering them all out in the Berkeley when I saw the thread title.

I think the Southend boys are on holiday, don't you fancy Cov instead. Plenty of bars to avoid and much nearer home, infact can't even think of one I would recommend

Last Post is a Weatherspoons by Southend Central station so an easy get away if you need to get back to London. It's cheaper than other areas and a decent pub to boot, they show live football. There is a sports bar opening up where Bottleyards used to be. Called Heroes Sports Bar and Grill. Will have 15+ Large Screens. You can get there from Southend Central by coming out, walking up to the top where the Metro Bank is and right towards where the underpass comes out. I've not been there as I think it is only just opening but it should be good. I think those are the two best places to see football.

Hope that helps.

I'd recommend getting the line from Fenchurch Street and stopping off along the way in Leigh-On-Sea, it's then a short walk to Old Leigh which has 4 pubs (Crooked Billet, The Peterboat, Ye Olde Smack and The Mayflower all withing a short walk of each other) and is a nice place to have a pint, especially if it's a sunny day plus plenty of places to get food as well. There's also a posh restaurant called the Clarence Boatyard if it's going to be a more civilised/chilled stag.

Once you've headed in to Southend then depends on what you fancy, there's a couple of Casinos on the seafront, a Gentings in Westcliff-On-Sea and there's the Grosvenor at the top of the High Street overlooking the seafront. The Grosvenor Casino has a 24/7 sports bar with a gigantic screen as well.

On the seafront itself there's plenty of places to grab a drink, if you haven't booked accommodation yet there's the Hope Hotel which is directly on the seafront and shows football in the bar.

If you walk up the high street then there's the Last Post as Shrimper92 mentioned if you want to chalk off a Spoons, The Alex which is just off the High Street down Alexandra Street and if you keep walking up the High Street there's a Revolution cocktail bar and a bar called the Town House nearly opposite (both are down Queens Road).

If you want to do nightclubs etc then Lucy Road just off the seafront is where you'll find Talk (aka TOTS or Talk of the South) and Chameleon plus an 'exotic dancing' bar called Sunset.

If I can think of anything else I'll let you know.

Why would anyone go to Southend for a night out, let alone travel there from Sheffield to do it?

Once you've walked along the boringly long pier there's fuck all to do, unless you fancy chipping in with some litter picking along the beach.

Seriously shit place (and I'm from Gillingham so that's saying something).

If it’s sunny I would definitely go to Old Leigh which is about 5 min walk from Leigh on sea train station in the day. You can then venture into Leigh Broadway for the night where there’s a couple of decent bars or if spending the night in Southend I’d go to either Revolution or Gentings Casino on the front. I just hope the weather is good for you. Southend is class when the suns out seafront will be rammed
