Just when our utter train wreck of a season couldn't get any worse Norman Smurthwaite is being touted as interested.

Any advice. As an outsider he seems to have been at the helm for Vales decline but unlike Hardy seems to stay off of twitter, hasn't relegated you into non league and doesn't upload pictures of his genitals to the internet so is he that bad?

He is off Twitter at the moment but had been a car crash on Twitter!

Aye he wasn't viewed as S-O-T's very own Donald Trump for nothing. He hasn't done the other two things mentioned with regards to Hardy though two years running we very nearly have been relegated so not sure that is a tick in the box for him. From the outside looking in I'd say Hardy is more a victim of his own incompetence whereas Smurthwaite has a far more vindictive side to him.

I doubt it will happen as Notts ground is held in trust I believe and he would want the land more than anything.

Apparently Smurthwaite was at our game at MK yesterday, I'm just hoping he doesn't now think he is in the clear and everything has been forgotten.

Hopefully just there as MK is just down the M1 for him and enjoying the last and probably best corporate benefits in the league.

In terms of Smurf, I actually didnt mind him for the first 2 or 3 seasons but thats down to two things, he came in during the glorious promotion side with Paul Wildes who was a big PR man and it seemed great.

That summer Wildes is gone so he turned to Micky Adams who essentially guided him through, once Micky went then downturn really hit. Cheap managers, foreign experiments, everything on the cheap, 50 odd players in 18 months at one point I think it was! Twitter outbursts, lost the plot after losing to L2 Exeter and allegedly went on the coach telling fans Page was a gonner, then went on Sky saying we didnt go for Hasselbaink as he worried our fans would racially abuse him!

After taking apart a top half League One side to try the foreign plan and overseeing relegation that season, then our lowest finish in our history last year and a potential repeat this season I think we have been remarkably patient to take until February to finally say "look this cant carry on or we will die as a club"

Apparently he’s been a semi-regular at Notts for a few years, so presumably he’s actually telling the truth.

Wouldn’t he be precluded from buying us until managing to sell Vale anyway?

Looks like yesterday was his last Vale game judging by his plans.

He’s all being well free to buy any club within the next fortnight, no updates due to the confidentiality agreement so we don’t know exactly how far along but assume just waiting on EFL clearance.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up at Macclesfield tbh, he was there for the Exeter game with Askey and our CEO randomly.

do whatever it takes to keep him away from your club, otherwise this season will feel like a stroll in the park

Regularly linked with buying us in the last few years as he has a home just down the road in Kingswear where he plans to retire. He reportedly asked the Football League about the feasibility of owning us and Vale as we were outside the league.

The league said no but he said if he managed to sell Vale he may still be interested.

Our former CEO said on our forum last year: "Norman Smurthwaites interest in Torquay is very real I would also class Norman as a friend of mine so I can speak of that question with total knowledge of the situation, I think Norman would buy Torquay in a heart beat"

Daily Mirror reporting that our sale is close to being completed.....

"Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite is close to selling up and is now considering buying League Two crisis club Notts County.
Mirror Sport understands Smurthwaite is finally set to go after a lining up a deal to sell to Carol and Kevin Shanahan, who own Stoke-on-Trent-based IT company Synectics Solutions.
A deal worth up to £4million is due to be completed soon after Vale secured their League Two status.
A source told Mirror Sport: “Alan [Hardy, the Notts County owner] has four interested parties and Smurthwaite’s bid currently looks the most attractive.”

Few twists in this maybe, our pain is hopefully almost over.

He spent a lot of time with Torquay a few years back as mentioned. They made Smudge a man and he’s come back and played 150 plus games in three years for us! (Over 100 unbroken apps)

Seems he still wants to be in football. See where he ends up!

No chance he will take over at Meadow Lane.

Dangerous to presume that...

Norm claimed he took advice from the Vale chairman from the glorious 90s era... only issue being he had died six months prior to said conversation!

He's also in the past claimed to be a Coventry and Sunderland fan. He's a pathological liar who claims he 'knows nothing about football' and was 'only keeping it (us that is) alive because of the community work' yet is already circling other troubled clubs before he's even made a tidy profit on us.

Oh, and he was involved in the demise of Nuneaton this season. Pretty sure he bought their stadium but also tried to buy the club, putting someone in his place as chairman to make it seem like he hadn't. I think his plan there was to buy the land so he could get into bed with Coventry and sell them the land for a new stadium and/or allow them to play there for a few seasons.

Avoid at ALL costs.

Our stadium is in a trust for 150 years or something and we don’t have any other assets to speak of (definitely not the players ha ha ha), so there isn’t really much for someone of that ilk here.
