We've never won at the New (or old) Lawn but even the prospect of breaking that run and seeing the next step on Big Bad Barry Corr's journey back to a longer term contract is failing to tempt me to consider a winter trek through the wilds of the Cotswolds and an arctic couple of hours on that open terrace. At least the forecast looks "dry" and I may yet weaken.

I can see us starting with the 442 diamond (rather than the standard away 4231) and the prospect of Uche and Billy Waters up top and pressing any dithering at the back, never mind Jabo and Barry Corr on the bench, is quite mouthwatering. Who am I kidding? Waters will be pushed wide if he starts ahead of O'Neill and Deegan will probably have some company alongside him - at least until we go behind.

I'm hoping we'll reveal George Taft before kick off but Harry Darling won't let us down if he gets his second start. My selection looks a bit thin on defensive cover but would be

Forde
Halliday, Darling (or new CB), Taylor, Carroll
Brown, Deegan, Phillips, Maris
Waters, Ikpeazu

Subs: Mitov, Dunk, O'Neil, Elito, Corr, Ibhere, Lewis

We might just manage a win but I'm not expecting a clean sheet. 2 - 1 to the U's.

If I make it, this'll be my last match for a few weeks as I'm off on my travels again. At least I'll be able to make the re-arranged Notts County game but I'll be disappointed to be missing the visit of some old Lincoln acquaintances and the chance to tick off a couple of new grounds at Coventry and Chesterfield. Barry Corr's goal at Yeovil (and the fog coming home) last season will live long in the memory, so I'm happy to be giving Huish Park a miss.

Ever since the fixtures came out I've been trying desperately to be away for this game, I absolutely hate going to FGR, not helped by our abysmal record there, further enhanced by now being on an open bloody terrace at the side, alas I have failed and will be there hating every second as we at best grind out a draw.

Are we still allowed in the bar in the main stand or has that been sealed off to us now you've picked up a couple of fans?

I'd definitely rather see us go with the flat midfield four than the diamond. This is a game that any team with realistic play-off ambitions should be winning, and since we've added a couple upfront anything short of three points will be hugely disappointing

The Green Man is home fans only, you do get a beer tent behind the North Stand though plus an Indian food stall.

Dunno Tom, I really wish I could be there actually, but then again I'm one who doesn't really care about open terraces, previous results or lack of nearby pubs when thinking about making an away game. Not that the things I've mentioned aren't important or handy, esp the pubs, but whenever I can make an away match (alas a pretty rare occurrence these days sadly :() the first aspect I take into account is whether I'm ticking off a new ground or not.

Now, onto FGR. I don't dislike them at all unlike most others, although I can understand why the club is often simply dismissed as a hobby club, but if there's one thing I dislike in footy is talking about finances and sugar daddies. In fact, I have a soft spot for them mostly because of the whole vegan thing etc etc, and also because they were our opponents for our first game in the Conference and the fact that we were able to field a side was a miracle in itself and something I'll always remember fondly.

But I digress. I reckon we'll beat them, and that'll be about bloody time actually. Still believe they'll manage to stay up this year but I think they need some time before they reap the fruits of their new signings. Having said that, I'm a little unsure about our own signings, as I don't think it's a coincidence our better players (Brown, Uche and Hallyday) were all below par in the Mansfield game. Deagan and Maris were poor, but I don't think these two are amongst our better players, well certainly not Deagan at least, as he's a downgrade on Dunne. I thought we were playing reasonably well before so to make three changes was all a bit unnecessary.

I'd be tempted to start O'Neil instead of Deagan tbh, who is either still recuperating from his injury or really not as good as we were led to believe. Unsure on Philips too, and I don't think it would be a bad idea if he doesn't start and then comes off the bench around the hour mark.

I'm going with a 3-1 win - Waters, Uche and a stoppage time pen by the Saint ;)
Att - tricky this one. FGR will have around 2000- 2200 I would think but how many U's are making the trip?

There isn't a lack of nearby pubs Vanni, there's a few decent ones in Nailsworth. Just need to walk or catch a bus up the hill after.

Oh yeah I know that Chris, and I wasn't specifically referring to your ground. I was only saying what's the most important thing to me nowadays, now that I rarely go to away matches. A ground I've yet to visit will always appeal to me more than a ground I've been to loads of times before. Obviously, some will disagree with me as the first thing they look forward to is the booze, and I don't blame them ;)

Under Derry this sort of game has nearly always been a win for us - ie any game against a team below us. So it’s hard not to want/expect anything less. Forest Green have obviously picked up after the terrible start and I fully expect them to stay up too.

I think we’ll draw today. We’ll go behind early on and salvage a draw in the last 10 minutes which will have Derry purring about character etc.

Understand young Rawson's going to be rested after he got knocked out early on last time, precautionary only but think he'll be missed. Hope Doidge and Reid will continue to develop what looks a good partnership but we barely got the ball to them last week. Do that and we're in with a chance but not particularly confident.

Magic Doidge scuffs one in! Game on. We've had a decent amount of possession by sound of it but that was about the first time we even looked like doing anything with it.

Us getting on top but thankfully wasted a couple of dead balls. Sounds like Grubb is knackered, pace is a bit too fast for a recent VNLS player.

What a load of tosh. So many U's players going missing again, especially Brown (that's two consecutive very average games) and Forde. Only Taylor and the one whose name cannot be uttered had what could be considered a half decent game. Carroll wasn't bad either.

That's all cos I'm really fucking angry after that performance. We have the players to mount a push for the top 7 and it seems we're always so far away.

PS - Good job Rovers, hope you stay up.

I am never going to Forest Green again, and have 13 days to decide if I'm watching Cambridge again under this prick.

Grubb will scare a lot of teams him and doidge simple mouth watering! Great second half but we did hit the bar twice in the first. So very much deserved, could of been more than 5 in the end! The great escape!

Easier to deal with from 200 miles away. Commiserations to Tom and the rest who travelled.

Not worth analysing from our end. Is it even worth starting the mid-table thread?

Looking forward to the steaming jungles of Myanmar and being off the grid for a while.

Buzzing after that, first time we've got 5 in a while. Hit the bar twice as well.

Note to David Forde, probably best not to pass it straight to the most lethal striker in the division, there'll only be one outcome. :bdick:

Forgot to say that Grubb looks to be one hell of a player, and promising enough to play in a higher league if he keeps working and doesn't think he's already made it like so many do. That second goal of his was a peach.
