All going a bit badly for Grimsby isn't it? It's a reasonable opportunity for us to bounce back from the weekend, but I don't have any high expectations. Sheridan at least has been quick to identify our problems, it's just whether or not he has the resources to fix them.

I think we'll up our performance and make you sweat a bit but after our inevitable collapse at the back seeing you bag 2 or 3 in a short space of time, it'll end up your easiest win of the season.

Jolley has to go for it tonight. No defensive line up just because we're away, no trying to counter the opposition's strengths. We need to put out an attacking team, Vernam Pringle Embleton all starting. Doesn't matter if they're not 100% match fit because if you lose tonight Michael it is very likely curtains for you.

Said in the last match thread that I need a break from committing to watching us every game, but I bought into Jolley's vision and crazily enough I still buy it, so I'll stick with him as long as he's here. A draw tonight would at least be a start.

It wouldn't really have to be that easy to be our easiest win of the season, most of our wins so far have been less easy and more lucky. Pretty much if we're the better team then it will be our easiest win.

By the way, where the fuck do Grimsby's official website get their opposition previews from? Ours has some stuff about Belinda Carlisle, John Peel and Bob Moretimer (sic). I've seen people genuinely mix up the 19th century hunstman of folk-song fame and the pioneering DJ and discoverer of Jimi Hendrix, but the rest is a piss-take (though the bit about Lee from 911 is at least true).

Apparently we used a similar preview last season as well. Looks like it's copied off a parody site or something.

We need a much improved performance tonight, that's a given. I'd take a point but a win would relieve a lot of pressure.

Great game for Grimsby. If ever there was an away game a struggling team would want its Carlisle at the moment.

As long as you don’t give any silly penalties or free kicks away, we probably won’t score. We have the most toothless, shit top of a forward line imaginable. Without opening up too carelessly you should be able to have a go knowing we’re no threat at the other end and knowing 1 goal will probably win it.

Carlisle 0-2 Grimsby

While that should give us optimism, we currently only have 2 centre backs available and one of them is Danny Collins who has seemingly woken up one day in the summer and forgotten what he does for a living. You won't need to go through much effort at all to score a few.

4 attacking players starting, 3 if you don't count JJ Hooper. Not the line-up I would have gone for but it's not far off. If we can somehow go in 3 up at half time then maybe the second half collapse won't matter.

Hendrie 1-0, fully deserved, could've had 5 this half. Vernam with a hand in the goal, shocker.

It’s actually getting embarrassing how utterly shit we are. It honestly could be 5-0 and we don’t look like scoring if we played till this time tomorrow. Pathetic. The worst group of attacking players we’ve had in years.

They say the league table doesn’t lie. Well it has been to have us in the playoff places as recently as a week ago. We are fucking relegation shite and it won’t be long before other Carlisle fans wake up.

that was a shite first half. Well for us it was, 5-0 wouldn't have flattered Grimsby because they have created everything of note in this half. They just look a much better team than us, faster, more awake, more confident and hungrier, everything we have been calling for our team to be all season long, and the second bottom team are showing us exactly how to turn things around.

We have to feel lucky to only be one down and hope we can improve in the second half. we started pretty well bit as we didn't create anything from some good football we faded away. Can't see where our goal is coming from while I can certainly see Grimsby scoring at least one more, they're really dangerous in attack, more so than anyone else I've seen here this season.

If Carlisle fans want a bit of hope, this is the 6th time this season we’ve held a 1-0 lead at half time, and we only won one of the other 5 (away at Macc).
Just hope we go for the kill second half and don’t just sit on the 1-0 as we just can’t defend.

well if we can carve out a couple of shots, your keeper looks proper Sunday league standard.

We have scored hardly any goals this season and the way it's going we will have went a 3rd home match without scoring. Last time we scored at home was a 1-0 win against Crewe back in August. :(

Like that's going to bring the fans back.

Bunch of fannies in our team like, JUST FUCKING SHOOT YOU USELESS c***

Massive 3 points, can't understate just how important that win is for everyone at the club. It looked like a typical second half from us, backs to the wall with absolute fuck all going forward, but luckily Carlisle were exactly as described on here, utterly toothless up front. First half was really encouraging though. If we can just sort out these weak as piss second halves, we'll be fine.

if they awarded points for clever little passing moves around the attacking third before giving it away we'd be top of the league

You were never hanging on. You should have been because of how deep you went, but against a forward line as toothless and inept as ours you were always going to see it out. It was the easiest win you’ll ever have.

We are absolutely shite. Our luck is finally running out, although we had a bit of luck that it wasn’t 5-0 tonight!

As I said weeks ago, despite our good start to the season, survival still has to be the aim with a squad as poor in quality as ours. If we can scrape a few results between now and Christmas to stay out of the bottom 2, hopefully Sheridan will be able to move some players out to get better in, particularly in the forward areas.

The sad thing is from our point of view it’s been glaringly obvious for a long time but nothing has been done about it.

I think any bog standard football fan off the street could manage a winning team against us as long as they took the time to watch 2 or 3 of our matches beforehand.

That could be the win we and Jolley needed tonight.

Looks like he went for it with the line up so fair play. If we had players that could score we wouldn't be in this position. I feared the worse at HT being only 1-0 up again, luckily we played Carlisle who admit they are as toothless as us in front of goal, so despite backs against the wall we managed to hold on.

Against another team it may have been different. Still we have the win now, lets hope it gives them confidence to follow it up on Saturday and who knows. Needless to say we need to put more chances away and our defence needs to improve massively if we are going to avoid another relegation battle.

Nicely done Grimsby! Genuinely don’t want to see you go down (or do too well neither - currently nailing it).
