Grauniad Champ/League 1/League 2 teams

Another subjective end-of-season filler article that will cause a great deal of teeth-gnashing as usual, but for what it's worth:

GK: Adam Davies (Barnsley)
RB: Jack Stacey (Luton)
CB: Ethan Pinnock (Barnsley)
CB: Matt Clarke (Portsmouth)
LB: James Justin (Luton)
CM: Herbie Kane (Doncaster)
CM: Aiden McGeady (Sunderland)
CM: Tom Bayliss (Coventry)
RW: Jamal Lowe (Portsmouth)
ST: Lyle Taylor (Charlton)
LW: Ronan Curtis (Portsmouth)

I'll leave others to comment on (and complain about) the other picks, but the Ronan Curtis one is a bit odd. Great first half of the season but fell away in the second half, which isn't surprising when making the step up from the Irish league. He'll come back strong next season, but hard to make a case for his inclusion here.

The trend I've noticed this season for team of the seasons is that the press/tabloids/bloggers seem to get things a bit more 'right' than the PFA or EFL do with their teams of the season.

They got the fullbacks right I think, both were more or less the reason we won the league, and good to see Taylor in there hasn’t got enough attention for the great season he had.

Struggle to believe that Bayliss or Kane had a better season as a midfielder than Shinnie though who hasn’t been in any of these teams that I’ve seen which is a bit of a surprise considering his importance to us. Bayliss in particular strikes me as a bit of a left field choice in particular despite being a highly rated youngster

I'm willing to be corrected, but did Lyle Taylor make team of the year in any of the official awards? If not, I'm struggling to understand why.

Probably overshadowed at Charlton by Grant until Christmas and Collins scored a ton, then theres the imo over rated Marquis whos a favourite in these teams. To be fair there are a few others who were unlucky - Gillingham lad Eaves looked good to me. Real handful.

How did Curtis get in ahead of Collins?

I suppose that system would probably suit him more.

Yeah it’s incredible really, involved in about 34 of our goals this season I think it was.

There weren’t many midfields better than ours, if any imo so it’s a shame the likes of Aribo, Cullen and Bielik haven’t received the recognition but whatever, there’s only one team I care about and every single one of them played for Charlton.

Yeah Shinnie has been overlooked everywhere, probably because he didn't contribute directly (I.e. assist or goals) so people who don't watch us regularly wouldn't be as aware of him. The number of time he assisted the assist with a defence splitting pass to one of the wing backs though was ridiculous, and he controlled so many games with his quality on the ball and added work rate and grit this season too. If it wasn't for Stacey he would have been my player of the season for sure.

Notable that he won our player's player award, that's the one that really shows how good a season someone has had IMHO.

Do you think he'll end up at Brighton?

I'd love him here if the Kalas deal doesn't materialise.

Well, Brighton were at the head of the queue, but it looks like we're basically seeing what the highest bid is :£. It's seemingly between Brighton, Leeds, Stoke and your good selves.

Do you still have Webster? Clarke was part of the swap deal that originally took Webster to Ipswich. Both are class.

Have we been mentioned? I've not really paid too much attention to rumours this summer yet, I think our main focus will be getting Da Silva and Kalas back before anyone else.

Webster just won the player of the season award here. Good defender that will probably move on next summer if we don't get promoted.

I personally think Bielik is one of the underrated players this season.
