Fillon has been charged by the courts. While this is not entirely surprising, he did say that he'd step down if that happened. He refused to do so (honestly, I don't blame him; we're witnessing his lifetime aim which is to become President) and a lot of big guns of the party have resigned their posts.

Frankly, this election is fascinating. Fillon was destined to win after his success in the primaries but his wife fucked everything up, Hamon is unpopular because he's of the same party as Hollande (who hasn't done that bad all things considered (I certainly expected worse)), Macron won't get the vote of the old people because he's neither right nor left while Le Pen is a name associated with fascism.

Le Pen may make the 2nd round but she won't win the whole thing. We're not as stupid as the Brits and the Yanks.

Macron should be a sure thing but it'd be cool if Hamon could pull off an upset.

Lots of Macron's e-mails have been leaked. Lucky for him French courts are banning the French media from talking about them.

Well done France the sensible choice, if only we had done the sensible thing too.

But we've got too many brainwashed daily mail readers.

Oh, but we did do the sensible thing.

Let's see if you're still saying that when our employment rights go down the toilet in order to appease the countries May will be begging to trade with.

So what is your assumption to what will happen to workers rights when we leave the EU under a Tory Government.

No holidays?
No sick days?
No protection from unfair dismisal?
No equality?

Sorry but you potray that going to work under an EU-less Conservative government is alike to being sentenced to hard labour in one of those North Korean prison camps. These may be EU laws, but identical, or very similar laws will be rewritten when we leave.

Not necessarily cessation, but erosion of those things. I predict the fate of agency and zero hrs contract workers to become more precarious too. When May wants to attract inward investment to Britain the post Brexit trading partners' terms and conditions for it will be more de-regulation of employment legislation. This is why the likes of Nike set up their sweatshops in the Pacific rim, because there is next to no employments laws to protect workers there. Long hours, shit pay, kids on the payroll and no fucking windows. Obviously it wouldn't get that bad here (well the longer hours and shit pay will), but the principle is the same. Businesses are competing in a market and if they can save money in countries with low wage economies unfettered by employment legislation that protects workers then that's where they'll set up. Consequently, a post Brexit Britain which de regulates employment legislation will be a lot more of an attractive proposition than one that before was regulated.

I suspect workers rights will be something similar to what they have in parts of the US. No legal requirement for sick pay, leave or paternity/maternity pay, a further weakening of trade unions and even a lowering of the minimum wage.

This isn't the Brexit that people voted for, but it's the one we'll get as we attempt to make up for the loss of trade by being 'competitive'.

All the others, yes, but I don't think even this government would dare to lower the minimum wage.

Actually, given how weird things are politically right now you're probably right. If Theresa May said she'll get rid of every foreigner today and never let another one in, but the minimum wage will have to go down to _£5 per hour some idiots would lap it up.

It's worth pointing out that, whilst there are differing policies on paid leave and paid maternity leave across the EU, the typical UK employee enjoys more of both than in the typical employee on average in the EU. So says the OECD. For example the UK average of paid annual leave is 28 days compared to the EU average of 22 days.

The EU is not the reason we have the paid leave and maternity leave rates that we currently do.

No, but we will be making up for a loss of trade, so that'll be the excuse of the Conservatives to roll back those rights.

Trade deals will also be secured from a position of weakness.

This is empty rhetoric. The UK is one of the largest economies in the world, there is plenty of incentive for other nations to want a free trade deal with us, and outside the EU said deal can be a) tailored to actually suit us and them and b) signed within our lifetimes.

You don't think that other countries will use our weak position to enforce the best possible deal for them? Because mutually beneficial trade deals are always negotiated quickly.

Quite.

I genuinely think that Brexit has made some of you take leave of your senses. There's seemingly no argument that people won't just rebuff with "it'll be fine!!!" with little in the way of supporting evidence.

Let me remind people that the last time the Conservative Party had a hefty majority (with a PM they all idolise at the helm) they weren't exactly a great friend to the downtrodden worker! Some of you are alarmingly naive if you don't think a Conservative Party with a similarly large majority won't attempt to water down rights in an attempt to make us more "flexible", "competitive", "entrepreneurial" i.e. more like the US or China.

But... But... They are the two biggest economies in the world...
Don't tell them that a tiny proportion of the population hold the wealth and that workers are treated like shit!
