If it was increased to say 40 sides, Europe may only get 2/3 of those spaces, have 8 groups of 5 instead of 4, and there you go.

I used to always prefer the European Championships over the World Cup. You always had a couple of big nations in each group which meant entertainment from the offset.

Now that UEFA have increased the participants it simply dilutes the quality.

Don't get me wrong, I love watching football. We all do, that's why we're on here talking about it.

But more isn't always better.

The World Cup works fine as it is - why change it?

What I think would be good is to have less automatic qualifying and more intercontinental play offs. Allowing smaller nations the chance to compete whilst not taking away places for the bigger nations.

I'd create region competitions......America......Asia/Oceana.....West Europe.....East Europe....Africa

Then have a mini league every 4 years with the 5 winners to determine your world champions.


Is far too much international football, well too much football overall thesedays.

Games between the big teams can be just as dull though. I quite look forward to the smaller games.

a big waste of time which drags on the summer with about 20 odd useless games due to the ridiculous OTT draw set-up to protect numerous nations to give a Tournament set-up so certain teams get through and then you get the actual worthwhile competition when you get to the last 4 sides.

They could increase the teams but make it straight knockout, so the upsets really make an impact. Often in group stages a small team can pull off an upset but they'll go out when they falter against the other 2 nations they're pitted against, and the team that loses their initial encounter go on to get results, and you're back to the status quo again. We had Spains collapse and Costa Rica as the exceptions this time though.
World cups would be very short for England fans though.

completely pointless.

Most tournaments these-days are seeded though. Imagine Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Spain all in the same group? You could end up with a dreadful semi-final line up.

The World Cup is fine the way it is. Group stage and all that. Don't ruin it by inviting fucking San Marino to it like Platini did with the Euros!

Saying this I'm really looking forward to Euro 2016.
