Two sides in desperate need of a good result.

Two managers in desperate need of a good result.

Pressure must be mounting on both Justin Edinburgh and Russell Slade as both are seriously underachieving with the squads they have.

I'm expecting a pretty similar showing to last night's, wasted chances, negative tactics and subs from the manager and a disheartening result. Our 800k striker will be sat on the bench for 90 mins as we struggle to put the ball in the net.

Our hope is that Gillingham seem to be playing just as poorly at the moment so could come down to who is least shit.

1-1.

Can't remember ever going into a league game feeling so pessimistic.
It doesn't help that we are playing the spotters, which means the inevitable defeat will hurt so much more.
I am even thinking of taking my sofa so I can watch the game from behind it!

This has the potential to be a shocker.

I think Wright and Deji are suspended, and Wagstaff niggled his groin again last night so he'll be out. I'd like a little change in shape, and a more attacking emphasis. For me, the most I've enjoyed watching this club was under Stimson when we played a proper 4-3-3, with wingers who were essentially front men. I think we could have the players to do that in the club now, so why not?

Bond
Jackson - Ehmer - Pask - Konchesky
Herd - Dack - Hess
Nouble - Cody - JET
Nelson, Dickenson, Knott, Oldaker, Byrne, Donnelly, List

3-1 Gills, cause why not.

Only a 'potential' to be a shocker? Mind you having watched the most hyped game of the season on Monday being a turdfest, anything else is a bonus innit?

Well yeah, I'm clinging on to the idea that our lot might be 'up for it' with it being as close to a 'derby' as we're gonna get any time soon. Few ex-Charlton in our ranks too, although Waggy is most likely out. Konchesky was there a few years and Dack was released by them, so they should be up for it at least.

Reckon he will go:

Bond
Jackson Pask Ehmer Konchesky
Herd
Knott Dack Osadebe
Cody JET

Hess, Byrne, Nelson, Donnelly, List, Dickenson, Nouble

We will almost certainly lose, unfortunately, but you never know.
If we lose I reckon Mr Scally will pull the trigger.

Still missing through injury and suspension:

Wagstaff, Wright, Oshilaja, Morris, Martin, Garmston

Most, if not all, would be starters.

If Konchesky has another mare like last Saturday, he can bugger off back to the 'Spotters.

We deserved to win that, and comfortably. I actually don't have a problem with either of the Charlton pens - the first looked pretty nailed on and the second certainly hit Herd....SOMEWHERE....so I'll give the ref the benefit of the doubt. However, how we have been denied two stonewall pens of our own (the second of which was a red card offence) I will never know.

Charlton were....ok? Nothing spectacular, just a standard mid-table League One side really, with competent players all over the pitch. Was expecting way more from a few, notably Ajose and Lookman, who both weren't in the game that much really.

We played the formation I suggested earlier in this thread (cheers for reading Justin...!) and to be honest it worked well. JET took the piss at times in the first half, given an attacking role with no need to defend too much. Dack could've had 2 more - one in the first half when played through by JET, and should certainly have hit the target second half when a cutback found him 10 yards out. Nelson made two 'camera' saves second half, although were relatively straight at him, and made a decent penalty save from Holmes, although it was pretty comfortable in honesty.

So I leave the game feeling a bit cheated really. There is no doubt that we ought to have won that game, and the manner of the equaliser is very galling considering what had happened beforehand. One particular referee 'highlight' was the award of two Charlton corners in quick succession which were both goal kicks, but that was par for the course in the second half, with decision after decision going the way of our visitors.

However, the performance was good. Knott was my MOM, with Herd a close second. Keep playing with that formation and intent and we'll soon get up this league, providing we don't run into that ref too much more.

A couple of posters on the charlton forum summed it up for me.
One giving the ref man of the match and the other suggesting Slade had bunged him a few quid at half time.

Having read some of your 'contributions' on other threads, i'm with Bobbin on this one.

Back on topic, apparently we have dropped 18 points from winning positions this season.
