Another of our managers departs, and it sounds like he has quit this time with the statement saying: "After a meeting with the owner, Robbie Cowling over the future direction of the club, Kevin Keen has decided to leave Colchester United with immediate effect."

I definitely didn't see this coming, fully expected him here in August. Disappointing news and I just hope we don't go back to the internal appointments again.

I reckon Keen asked to downgrade the Academy, your Chairman said no, so he walked.

i think the embarrasment of only getting a point at Crewe pushed him over the edge .

I wouldn't really have thought that to be honest, Keen would have only known too well the Chairman's emphasis on the academy when he took the job on in the first place, and it is something he has also often stressed as being a positive etc. But, that said, 'future direction' would lend itself to that sort of direction. I don't know.

Very disappointing anyway, I really liked Keen and thought he had been a breath of fresh air. I think in recent weeks it was slowly starting to come together and I was looking forward to next season. Not sure where we go now.

Westley?

Exudes a huge amount of bullshit, but sometimes that's no bad thing, if only as a distraction. Did well at Stevenage, but couldn't meet expectations at Preston or Posh. However, expectations at Colchester may be more in line with Stevenage.

This is the perfect next step for Danny Cowley IMO

Go away. I want him when Still leaves in a year or so's time. Although I agree it would be a very forward thinking appointment for Colchester.

I would take Cowley, certainly earned a chance. That said, he may yet earn it with Braintree this month.

Announcement being made tomorrow afternoon. Presumably an internal appointment, probably John McGreal.

Michael Rose (the boat ashore) has been tweeting about new challenges. We acquired him from the oyster beds, is he returning?? :-)

They've appointed their u21 manager, why do they always appoint managers from within when it hasn't worked before?

Colchester seem to be in same situation as us. A category two academy (the only two outside the Championship) acting as a dead weight. Protecting that is best served by appointing from within.
