Nobody has to suffer such a regular pattern of summertime misery more than the lower league football supporters - perhaps hayfever sufferers?
Certain reoccurring actions and behaviours that every single club has to endure for months, that we can all point to and accept - 'yep, that happens at our club'. And there's no regular summer comment that irritates me more than the post signing chest thumper that brags that your club has fought off interest from other clubs for the players signiture
.
We've all heard it a thousand times when a new player signs for us, or any other club. When, as a fan, you should be reminding yourself that the least that you hope for is to be signing players that had interested other clubs too.
The last thing you want to hear is that Johnny Nobody came to your club without a whisper of attention from any other soul.
"Beaten off competition from sides in a higher division for his signiture" boasts the club.
"Yeah, I had some interest from sides in League 1 and the Championship, and even some interesting options abroard" quotes the player, giddy to be signing for a 'huge' League 2 club.
Yet, how refreshing would it be to hear for a change.
"We've seen off competition from a couple of Conference sides, not to mention a few very half hearted attempts by clubs in the same division as us" underwhelmingly remarked the clubs manager.
"My agent had to deal with some, frankly, derisory and somewhat insulting offers from clubs in higher divisions before I just settled for what they were offering here" informed the gloomy right back, unhappy to be sliding down the divisions quicker than a fish on a freshly waxed deck during a tsunami.
Any other Blueprint Summertime Nonsense that's worse?
