2-0 at half-time. Not much chances but an interesting one from a tactical standpoint.
I think this is the first time that I see a team lining up with a true 361. There are some variances to it (541 or 343 which Rodgers used a lot this season - he's probably still using it but Liverpool are horrible to watch these days) but you can clearly see Pearson's point of packing the midfield. Albrighton and Schlupp are the only wide players and while Leicester aren't creating much the 4 CMs have a certain discipline. James and Cambiasso are staying close to the back 3 while Ulloa and Mahrez (really good player, should be playing for a better side, no offence Leicester fans) are helping Vardy as much as they can.
Carver's tinkering is non-existant though. Or if it does exist I don't get it. I'm not sure what formation he's playing but it's really not clear when watching this first half. He seems to have Perez and Rivière up top but who plays where in the midfield 4 of Taylor, Gutierrez, Sissoko and Colback is anyone's guess. You have no idea what type of midfield it is as well. Is it flat? Is it a diamond? You really can't tell. It's an incredible stupid formation to use against a 361 as well as Carver should be using wingers instead of just having Janmaat and Dummett as wing-backs (who have hardly been up the flanks to provide width). With nous as good as Carver's I'm not surprised Newcastle are about to lose their 8th straight game.

Anyway, the game is alright. Leicester scored from two free-kicks. Second was borderline offside. I can see Newcastle getting one back but that's it. Newcastle are mos def in the relegation battle if they lose this.

Rivière has to be Newcastle's worst French signing since Guivarc'h. What a stupid challenge. 3-0 Leicester, Albrighton should have made it 4-0.

One of the most stupid penalty giveaways I have ever seen! What the hell was Riviere thinking?

Carver believes Mike Williamson got himself sent off on purpose... Don't blame him.

It's almost quite tempting to think another relegation would do the club some good, but with Ashley in charge that's not going to happen.

Everything's such a mess, and it's all down to one man. Yes Carver is out of depth, yes he's tactically clueless and yes he says some stupid shit. But he shouldn't have been put in this position in the first place. And yes, we wanted Pardew out. He was a yes man, treated the fans with contempt and endured catastrophic runs of form, just like the one we're on now, time after time. Just because we wanted him gone doesn't mean we wanted Ashley to go for the easy option to save himself cash yet again.

He runs the club like his own business. He buys cheap from abroad, looks to sell it on at a profit and restores the stock every two or three seasons. That's not conducive to running a successful football club, as opposed to a business, especially with the sorry state of the squad right now.

Lyon would disagree. However it does mean identifying players who are actually good and have a resale value.

On a side note, Newcastle were utterly inept. Really starting to remind me of a certain Derby side...

I thought Carver was right to single out Williamson, personally. Absolutely shocking challenge. Complete and utter stupidity. I don't necessarily think it was a case of him thinking "how can I get myself out of the next couple of games?". But I do think he was just really pissed off and fancied cropping someone to get it out of his system. Fucking idiot.
