Just an idea I had for a forum game.

Find a bookie offering odds of 25/1 or longer on something you have a sneaky suspicion will come true and call it in this thread.

At the end of the season the person who correctly called the thing with the longest odds wins.

The rules are:
  • The thing you call must be related to League Two or one of the teams, players/managers etc. in it
  • It also must be related to the season 2015/16.
  • You must have found a bookie offering odds of 25/1 or longer on it
  • You must post a link to where you found it on the thread so people can check on it.
  • Only one call per forum member
  • No two forum members can call the same thing
  • All calls must be made by kick off on the first day of the season
  • Up until then you can change your call
  • At the end of the season the correct call with the highest odds wins
  • In the event of a tie it will be put to a vote to decide who made the best call.
  • I haven't decided yet how to determine the winner in the (likely) event that nobody calls anything correnctly, but it will something along the lines of deciding who came closest to being right and/or holding a vote. It's just a bit of fun so it isn't too important that we have a rigorous process.
CALLS SO FAR
TeacherMan - Jamie Cureton as top scorer - 25/1
Wombling Kiwi - Wimbledon to be champions - 37/1
shoddycollins - Stevenage to finish bottom of the table - 25/1
Richard Cranium - Matt Green as top scorer - 40/1
Chasing Rainbows - Northampton to be bottom on 1st of September - 25/1
daviejones - Lyle Taylor as top scorer - 33/1
Judge Dredd - Luton & Cambridge in the top two - 100/1
ComeOnIrene - Jermaine Easter as top scorer - 66/1
Vanni - Rakish Bingham as top scorer - 133/2
Tom_CUFC - Orient to be relegated - 33/1
jamesslater01 - Billy Kee as top scorer - 40/1
StagsForLife - Ollie Palmer as top scorer - 100/1
cufc17 - Luton & Northampton in the top two - 80/1
Look Out There Are Llamas - Luton & Portsmouth in the top two - 40/1
TowcesterCobbler67 - Alex Nicholls as top scorer - 66/1
Don Tonberry - Morecambe to win the playoffs - 33/1
Grecian O'Grecian - Tom Nichols as top scorer - 40/1

so, for example, from just the top two. If Jamie Cureton finishes the season as top scorer and Wimbledon finish as champions then Kiwi would win with the longer odds. However if Cureton finishes as top scorer but Wimbledon aren't champions then Teacher wins.

Also, just to remind you again, you can change what you've called up to kick-off on the opening day of the season, but please do so in a new post rather than by editing your original one. I'll be in Edinburgh but should be able to make final checks on any last minute changes. It's not just what you've called that can change, but you can also update the odds if they lengthen, you don't have to update them if they shorten (if they shorten it's evidence you made a good call and more power to you for doing so) but are perfectly entitled to claim the longest odds you can find on the thing you've called right up till kick-off.

Hi shoddycollins,
Do you mean one bet for the season?

Yeah, what you've done is exactly what I had in mind. I was just wary of using the word 'bet' in the thread in case people misunderstood and thought they actually had to make the bet rather than just post it on here.

from the NZ tab.
AFC Wimbledon at NZ $31/1
link is https://www.tab.co.nz/sport/#2985

you didnt say that it had to be in GBP.

It doesn't matter what currency it's in. NZ$31/1 is the same as £31/1 or just 31/1 to you and me.

Just to clarify though (as this thread isn't limited to picking the champion) your call is for Wimbledon to be champions.

The only odds we have at this time is for the league winner. Once season starts we get to bet on individual games, I normally all up about 3-4 games each week. and yes Wimbeldon will win league 2, at some stage :-)

Well as Judge Dred has pointed out you can actually get 37/1 on Wimbledon as champions, so I've updated the list in the first post. There's no reason to limit yourself to odds you can get in NZ as you don't have to actually place the bet, just call it.

Knew our TAB were miserable, 37/1 for a certainty. :-)

Matt Green to be top scorer. 40/1.

For some reason I can't post the link but it's the same one as TeacherMan has posted at the top of the thread.

Shodderz, You have put me down at Matt Richards instead of Matt Green. Unless you want to change it to Marc and let me keep the 40/1 odds I want it changing

Also, I'm working on a points system so we can actually have a league table.

Points will be based on how close you come to a being correct and the odds you had. I just need to decide what weighting of the two will give the fairest results (i.e. not allow someone to finish highly despite being way off simply because they picked something with outrageously high odds) The top place will still go to the person with the longest odds out of those who have guessed correctly.

Has he ever been top scorer, or even scored a lot of goals, anywhere? Think it's fair enough for the bookies to be offering those odds...

Never scored vast amounts I don't think, but he had been plying his trade at Championship level before signing for us in January and scored in his last game for Millwall at Carrow Road on Boxing Day. He looked a class above last season and I don't see any reason why he won't look just as good in League Two. Maybe not top scorer material, but certainly a very good striker at this level and I'm prepared to back him.

I'll have a piece of Rakish please. Top scorer at unbelievable odds, and frankly surprised not one of my fellow forum members spotted this just like printing free money offer :bl:
