Two year contract for Silva. At one point he was talking with Porto, had also been linked with Southampton and Palace recently. But he's taken on the job at Watford after Walter Mazzarri lost the job at Vicarage Road.

Should imagine the fans are buzzing about this appointment.

Before the Porto links I thought Southampton were going to get him, he'd have been excellent for them.

Good work to get Silva in quickly.

Hopefully he earns the trust of the players and is able to turn us into a well discliplined fit team..

That would be a start!

And speaking the lingo will help too.

Our squad is pretty weak I feel in certain areas so work to be done there.

I think we will give him the whole season unless things go really wrong - the Pozzos aren't that ruthless.

That's quite the coup for Watford after it looked like he was going to Porto. I think he could have held out for a better job, but it's still a good opportunity to further prove himself in the league. I imagine it will be a stepping stone and he'll be off in a couple of years if successful. Like Steven, thought he might end up at Southampton with Puel on thin ice. Palace must be gutted.

Be quite ironic if he did well and then moved on after a season!

Suppose the Pozzos couldn't really complain.

Just be nice to see some decent football rather than reading about how many injuries we have or who has the most bookings.

I accept we will never be a top 10 side without major investment but the Pozzos do have ambition.

The last appointment was a disaster really - I'd be posting in the Championship if it wasn't for Sunderland and Boro being so poor...

Not sure how much contact he had with Palace - Big Sam only went this week whereas we've been linked with Silva for a while (would not surprise me if contact had been made once Hull went down)

We're the club that hangs around waiting while other sides come in for our targets and snap them up in an instant.

The truth is, that right now for a manager Porto isn't necessarily the more appealing option of the two. They're not the team that they were and every Premier League club has a transfer kitty only a few odd clubs in any other given league can match. Furthermore, if he does well in the Premier League he'll be a very interesting proposition for any of the big six when they need a new manager. I'd argue it'd take less at Watford than Porto.

The flip side of course is that there's a 50/50 chance he'll be looking for a new job next summer. I'm saying 50/50 because Pozzo can't be intent on firing a manager a year, surely?

Not if he does well or decides to quit..

The last 2 actually had long term contracts but Flores had a break clause and Mazzarri proved to be not the man on a number of fronts..

The number is slightly affected by the fact we managed to have 4 in one season when we got promoted for various reasons..

Remember that. Oscar with his heart condition, and Billy McKinlay barely managed a month between them, IIRC? Slav then coming in and doing the business. Must've been unprecedented, that.

Anyway, think Silva will prove a decent enough appointment. Always felt he'd suit the set up at Watford better than he would at Palace (if indeed they were interested).

Oscar only actually managed us for one game, Charlton away, although his backroom staff kept going for a few after, I'm convinced there was a heavy degreee of misunderstanding with the Billy McKinlay situation, I'm sure it was never the Pozzo's idea to have a permanent manager in for only two games. If that misunderstanding was between the club and the manager or the club or the media is unknown.

Very happy with Silva coming in, we were very poor last season, and would have gone down easily of we were competing in most recent Premier League seasons and can see Silva improving our style of play at the very least. Fingers crosssed that this works out as well as most predict, although I can see us in the hunt for a new manager next year, just not at our asking this time.

Cracking appointment for Watford, quite surprised he's taken this job though considering the average life span of a Watford manager. I'd have been surprised had he gone to Southampton as I don't think Puel will get the sack, 8th placed finish and a League Cup final represents a decent season no matter how poor the fans think the football is.

12 wins and 41 goals from 38 matches represents a crap season though.
