Northampton, Morecambe, ourselves and Exeter look in prime position to land the coveted midtable trophy this season. Pompey and Accrington also in the running. Could be an exciting finish to this one.

It's likely we will be here but we are still harbouring slight hopes of sneaking into the play-offs

Depending on how we get on in the next month or so we could be all over this like a rash.

I have a feeling that one of Wimbledon, Stevenage or Northampton will somehow sneak into the playoffs.

I think the midtable trophy's possibly the hardest accolade to get just right, and hence of course the sweetest when you know in your own mind, it's guaranteed that you're trapped in blissful midtable limbo until next season.

Promotion and relegation are easy, you just win or lose games. But do too much of either winning or losing, and you can kiss that midtable trophy goodbye. Only the elite will stay the course.

Can we get involved yet or is that too premature?!

Pompey, Wimbledon, Morecambe, D&R, Mansfield and Accrington now make up the leading pack for this one. Unfortunately Northampton have fallen by the wayside and Exeter look like they're stumbling out of the race as well.

Coming from nowhere are Luton, who are making a determined late charge to join.

Fuck that, if we are letting Luton in then we are leaving.

The definition of mid table is unable to mathematically get 70 pts and to have more than 50 pts.

Nobody is in that position yet.

So who will be the first?

Portsmouth, Morecambe and Dagenham in pole position, with Accrington and Mansfield in with a shout too.

I thought the definition was unable to mathematically reach the playoffs and unable to mathematically get relegated?

We can't state definite points totals for either scenario yet. I'd expect the last playoff spot to be more than 70pts, for example.

I think that is the more accurate way of doing it.

It will be another 3-4 games before a side can't mathematically make it

yup, that's the beauty (and chilling pain) of it, it's to a large extent out of your hands.

I am reminded of one season we went down with like 4 games to go or something. We lost the game and because no-one could be arsed to do all the maths, no-one realised that we were actually down until a day or so after when some statto called the local paper to tell them we were playing in L2 next season. So I imagine the moment of winning the midtable trophy to be much like that, except y'know, obviously much more prestigious and that.

That said, I think it's going to be a four-way photo finish between four sides, AFCW, Morecambe, Pompey and Daggers - barring a late surge from Oxford, or late slump from Exeter.

All to play for (but not too well, otherwise you'll take yourself out of the running).

We're looking good for the ultimate mid-table mediocrity position. Just need to make sure we draw with Morecambe next week.

Daggers, Oxford and Accrington are just goal difference away from clinching this. Daggers can no longer be relegated but still have a theoretical chance of clinching a play off spot on goal difference, while it's the other way around for Oxford and Accrington who cannot reach the play offs but could still theoretically be relegated. Pompey very close as well; quite possibly nine teams could share the title on Tuesday with Wimbledon, Morecambe, Northampton, Cambridge and York all in with a shout.

I'm not sure many of us would have guessed we'd have a chance of this prestigious award back in January. It really has been a great 2015 for us.
