Monarch have ceased trading. 110,000 people trapped abroad. Many staff waking up to news they are now jobless.

If there was some joined up logic, Ryanair could employ all those out of work Monarch pilots and not cancel so many flights.....

Agree with the point, but who cares about the already well off pilots earning shit loads. What about the cabin crew, ground staff, administration staff in their head office, etc? Bet they won't walk into new jobs.

Had a friend who was supposed to be off to Tenerife this morning, he wasn't best pleased waking up to the news his holiday was effectively ruined.

Apparently if you just booked the flights without a holiday package you are unlikely to be entitled to compensation for it either. Ridiculous.

It was me and I'm super serious. Perfect opportunity right here. Shame it's come too early. The idea would be to run a nationalised airline so efficiently and well that we blow competition away at the same time as raising tax on other operators. I envisage it as being like Ryanair/ EasyJet but not shite.

I read earlier that, as well as the major airlines taking a look at Monarch's assets, their pilots would also likely also be in demand, although apparently Ryanair won't be a viable destination as Monarch have an all-Airbus fleet whereas Ryanair are all-Boeing. Bit unfortunate, that.

Got a couple of personal connections to this. Firstly, my parents are on the continent at the moment with a Monarch return flight booked - oops! Shouldn't be a problem though as the CAA are arranging to have people flown back, and they've still got a week left. Secondly, my uncle was (until about 4am this morning) a pilot for them. He's not my favourite uncle though, so that's some consolation.
