After finally getting our first win of the season since the opening day on Saturday, there's a bit more optimism around the place. The general consensus is that we have a squad that should be pushing for the top half but unfortunately we had 11 games where we had no plan, no organisation, players out of position and ultimately no one fighting for the cause.

Aspin has instilled a bit of heart and desire into the squad, but also has a plan and the players look like they are buying into it. That is often enough to win games at this level, as quality is few and far between.

We need to follow up Saturday's performance with at least a point as we want to climb back in touch with the middle of the table and we've got Exeter away on Saturday.

Everyone tipped Morecambe to be down there after all their problems and they haven't started amazingly well. In spite of a win at Chesterfield, they played pretty poorly by all accounts and look to have season of struggle. They do have a canny manager however and he will set them up to work hard and they should be strong at home. We need to at least match their workrate and effort in order to get anything from the game.

With a bit of momentum, I'm hoping that we can push on and start to get towards mid-table by Christmas. Then at least we can see where we are in January. I expect that we will still have blips along the way as it is early days with the new management team but we really need to get a few results on the bounce.

Two wins on the board, but can we make it three? I would take a point from this one with Chesterfield and FGR likely to lose or draw away tonight which would keep us out of the relegation places.

I'll be confident, and go for a win, maybe 1-2. Pope and Worrall to score.

Could do with another win here with Exeter and Swindon up next, superb result to end the barren run against one of the leagues form teams and could of scored 5 or 6.

Hopefully we can put in the same levels tonight and get a nice cushion between us and the bottom two whilst closing in on the likes of Morecambe, Barnet and Crewe.

My only worry is.... we all know what happens when we get some optimism!

You mention a lack of quality at this level Leeds, but I've been quite surprised at how decent most teams have looked, I would say only fgr have been very poor, and Notts were a poor team, but the table would suggest otherwise.
Or have we made these teams look good with the rampant ineptitude that we have shown(pre-aspo).
I'm hoping we are at least solid tonight, and would gladly take a draw now.

I'm one of those who was calling for Pope to be dropped. Good to see he's proving me wrong.

If can see this out this will be a huge win.

Just as well we won given both Chesterfield and Forest Green had impressive wins themselves this evening. More importantly the gap between ourselves and the teams above is closing, Morecambe themselves particularly.

Great win for Vale either way. Great credit to Aspo for getting some signs of life out of this squad. Very hard game at Exeter coming up, hard to see us winning there but I give us more of a chance than I would have a month ago.

They took a pasting tonight... will be a good test of how far we’ve come under Aspo. Draw would be decent.

As I said prior to the game, the consensus amongst our fans is that we have a squad for the top half of the table. We're just having to now make up for a lot of lost ground. If only we'd held on to the 3 or 4 games where we were in the lead, we would be on the edge of the playoffs.
It seems like we were too strong for morecambe tonight which is a good sign.

Would love to get a draw on Saturday to set us up on a nice little run.

For sure, Plenty of quality in there and starting to show. Whitfield is class and Denton looks a find.

Anderson seems to be quality at the back, came with negative reviews but he’s come in and we look so much better than with Kay at the back.

What is key that despite one up front now Pope isn’t isolated, we are feeding him and when the Pope is fed he scores! Five in three games and looking back to his best, hopefully he can cause Exeter problems and give us a chance.
