<----- Just looked left to my loved "HSV-Raute Avatar" and realized that today it's exactly 1 year that I joined 1FF. First of all: I still like it here!!!! Fine bunch of people here (well, most of them ).

Joining 1FF was made after whining for over 3 weeks that the Brits want to leave the EU ;). I always like to visit the UK and love it's football leagues . I am a fan since my first visit in the 80's but have never taken part in discussing football in a foreign language (only in German football forums). So I decided (after the whining was over) that I should join an english spoken forum, first to improve my english and second to show that we Germans still like you Brits although you made that decision to leave us.

What a year it was. Had so much fun here (remember I am german, we are normally humourless) and I am still thankful that so many of you took part in wishing me well during my long hospital stay in March. Made me feel home here.

Better I stop here otherwise I am whining again (see above) ;)

Thanks again, guys. I look forward to the next years @1FF.

My football wishes for the upcoming years:

HSV back in the top of the Bundesliga
Wolves back in the Premier League - Out of darkness cometh light

I like Henning, too, mowgli. He has done more for a good relationship between Germany and England than our useless politicians (on both sides). He's our (comedy) ambassador.
I like how he mocks with the german (and english) stereotypes.

Already legendary his Guide to (West) Germany (don't go to the East...the locals are an embarrassment :D )

His slogan "Come to Germany. Visit us...otherwise we'll come around and visit you :D

Stevencc was just telling me how he thought 1FF was going down the shitter and had been doing so for about a year now.

Just thought I'd mention that. No reason.

I was unaware that you had been unwell, Dirk. I'm glad you've made a good recovery and are here to give us your perspective on footballing matters.

Henning Wehn is a regular on one of our political satire quiz shows here. When he is announced as one of the panelists I know it's going to be a good show. He always gets a good laugh.

Keep your posts coming and always remember; your English is a lot better than our German. It's good to have you on the board, mate.

Solidarity with Europe, Dirk. I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago.

This board is ok. Was fun being mod and warning people but I suppose fun has to end sometime in order to be called fun.

I know that jimjams post was tongue in cheek (at least I hope so) and my answer was it too. I gave you guys the classic excuse "Blame the German(s) for everything (like in "We're shite in tournaments for over 50 years because the Germans let us win once and then we're cursed because they never let us win again or "We want out of the EU because now the Germans are too tolerant and let everybody in . We can't make it right, when we aren't tolerant it isn't good either because then we're still Nazis /i <-- irony).

Hey, but we still like you Island guys. With no other country in Europe (except the german speaking ones) we have such strong related roots.
How much we luv' you is just seen when your Prince William and beautiful wife Kate are for a few days in Germany. They took our land (and hearts) by storm and the royalists amongst us (we still have them although we are nearly 100 years now without "the Empire") are now shouting "William? That's Wilhelm in German..."Wir wollen unseren Kaiser (Wilhelm) wiederhaben..." (We want to have back our Emperor (Wilhelm) ) (ok, a bit exaggerated but many here follow the Royals (with the german roots)).

I know steven's complaints about the forum and he is right sometimes. Some very unlucky events with the "selling" and now the "missing prize, the Nintendo Switch". Hope this will settle soon and the winner receives the prize. If you make such a prize and then don't send it to the winner it's not good (to say the least)

, but I like reading your posts Dirk. I think you're a bloody good egg..

Thanks, Red . I can return the compliment.

Well Dirk, The Queen's family name was Saxe-Coburg Gotha before it was changed to Windsor for political purposes in the early part of the 20th Century so yes, there are roots.

And going back to Euro '96 (the first football tournament I ever followed. I was just short of my 12th birthday at the time..!!), don't you think the Queen looked rather pleased to be presenting the trophy to Jurgen Klinnsmann..? And that green outfit she wore. Where had we seen something like that before..??

Yes, right. And Lord Mountbatten has "changed" his name 1:1 from German (Battenberg (Berg=Mount(ain)) into English
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battenberg_family

Yeah, I understand why they wanted to "eridicate" their german roots

That's interesting. I was in your country for the Euro 1996 (but unfortunately hadn't a ticket for the final only for the England match). That green dress was for many many years our "away" dress (I think the first time we used it was at the World Cup 1970 in Mexico but I can be wrong about it) behind the traditional b/w dress.

Just noticed it's 2 and a 1/2 years for me,fuck me that went quick. :ohm:

I'll leave the "fuck me" to your wife but personally, I am thankful for any member here who is older than me ;) (and you're a good guy too, Mowgli)

I don't mind Dirk at all.

Fair enough. And you are? Wait a moment....the St.Pauli fan, right? ;)

Just a silly joke that would undoubtedly have fallen flat on its face if I'd left it there.

Least said, soonest mended, I think.

come on, tell us , don't be shy. Can't be sillier than the jokes of jt and cohorts;) Hopefully it was some "german mocking joke". I like them (most germans like it when we are confronted with our stereotypes (except the right wings, they can't take it and can't even eat their sauerkraut because they are so upsetted about it :D )

Hope you don't mind my litte "joke" about who you are? Of course I know you and your posts in the politics section. (I am not often in the League 1 section only in PL, Championship and L2 ) ;)

I'll be re-posting it elsewhere. No Dirk, I wasn't going to do anything to stereotype Germans but I do appreciate that you guys are very much like us in that you're not afraid to laugh at yourselves. Being able to take a bit of good natured banter is a sign of humility and it's one of our shared saving graces.

Actually, the joke was a few tongue-in-cheek predictions for the coming season which weren't very well thought through at first. I'm doing a re-write and will give them their own thread for everybody to either laugh or blow raspberries at as they will. Please feel free to do either.

If we can't laugh at ourselves anymore it would be a bad sign ;)

Not "very well thought through" predictions? That's my speciality. :D
I'm always convinced before the season that my HSV will have a good season,at last, or that we won't be thrashed at Munich this time. But both "predictions" are null and void as soon as the season starts (or the match starts))
Anyway, I look forward to your thread.

btw: Thanks for "blow raspberries at....". A new slang I learned. Looked it up in the dictionary and had to laugh.
