Both teams lost there 1st game so will be looking at bouncing back here. I hear Oldham are in abit if a mess and there is talk of boycotts from the fans, so probably a good time to play Oldham. As for us we got spanked 3-0 but that didn't tell the whole story, we created plenty of chances and were better than the scoreline suggested.

Oldham 1-2 Crewe (Wilson, Kirk, Powell) 4,288 (440 Crewe)

Oldham are unlikely to be of the quality of Plymouth. We just have to hope Eddie Nolan isn’t the quality of last Saturday.

Winnable game, though I’m sure Oldham see it similar. Create the same amount of quality chances as last week and I fancy our chances.

Well... it's hard to say. Under the owner Lemsagam there's always something bubbling under the surface, but there is a period of relative stability at the moment. The coach Laurent Banide seems a steady hand, and the signings look decent enough. I can see us being very solid at the back this year, depending on the keeper and who partners Wheater. We are missing an x-factor player going forward though, an attempt to bring back Callum Lang on loan looks dead due to him not wanting to come back to L2, and any effort to bring in Zach Clough seems more and more unlikely. Mansfield have been linked.

If the trophy game midweek is any indication, set pieces could be key.

Without being disrespectful to Oldham, they were not the team of last season last weekend. Although as stated by Oldham fans themselves they hardly went for it against us! And there was still not a massive amount between us at the end.

I'm a great believer in the the adage ’a good time to play them‘ so agree with your comment on this. Early days though, but you'd expect Oldham will be desperate to put on a better display tomorrow for their home support.

Only sold 314 tickets pre match day. So won't be many railwaymen there. We only ever seen to take 4-500 Oldham every year no idea why. For some reason we don't travel well at all to Oldham or Bury despite them being relatively close.

Lancashire straight back in. I do hope he's not rushing back, can't afford to have him break down mid game, especially with 2 Tuesday fixtures in the next 2 weeks.

Also hope he's not as the Swindon fans claim.

Wheater misses out with a knock. Massive blow. Two up front at home, thought the new coach might be a rigid 4-2-3-1 guy, glad to be wrong. Nepomuceno shouldn't be on the bench.

If Crewe attack us, expect us to be a goal down in the first ten minutes. If they sit off us, they might make us look good.

Well, that was an intersting half. Concede inside 2 minutes, floated cross goes between Lancashire and Ng, leaves the smallest player on the pitch in Lowery trying to win a header, which he doesn't. Not sure I want to see Jaaskelainen lobbed from that far out either. I'll need to watch it again though.

After the first 15 minutes, I thought we were easily the better team, Oldham giving us so much time and space to build. Strange goal from Porter, flicked header from the edge of the box. Should have scored through Powell twice and Lancashire, all 3 were sitters. Thankfully Powell wins a penalty and Porter buries it. More than deserved lead, but can't afford to sit back. Need to keep pushing and go for that 3rd.

Sounds like we should be winning this atleast 5 or 6-1. Qué an Oldham equaliser anytime soon.

Should have won 4 or 5-1 in the end. Oldham offered very little in the 2nd half bar a late effort that went just wide. We fully deserved the win and didn't even play that well at either end. Wintle back in midfield made a huge difference, so cool and calm. Lowery was much better. Powell was excellent, just needs a goal.

Defence looks very scary though, every attack against us looks dangerous. A stronger team would have punished us today. Lancashire was very hit and miss, some good headers and blocks, but some odd choices as well.

I'll take the 3 points, but we need to get way better at both ends.

Are Oldham players not fit or something, gave us loads of time on the ball last week and sounds like it was the same today. Can't win many games if you don't pressure the opposition.

Big changes are needed at Oldham by the sounds of things or they could be heading the same way as Notts County.

Aye we’re up shit creek. Club’s been a shambles for well over a decade in which time fans have slowly turned their backs. In the last two years under Lemsagam’s stewardship the decline has accelerated to a point where I genuinely think most people couldn’t give a monkeys. Shame what’s happened to us - another good club on its arse.

Think I said before that the Wheater signing should keep us up but genuinely not sure having seen us this season. We’re absolutely terrible.

16 shots 9 on target Vs Plymouth, then 16 shots 8 on target yesterday. This has to be seen as a great positive. If we keep creating this many chances per game, we should win more than we lose, and if he can stay fit you wouldn't bank against Porter getting towards 20 goals this season. Plus we've bossed possession in both games.

Is this because your owner insists on signing players that are with his agency or something? Seemed to have a lot of foreign sounding names in your side, and most looked average at best. Your no.10 was awful, but seemed to be captain?

Genuinely hope you sort yourselves out, proper big club with decent fans but the ones I met seemed utterly depressed last week. Felt a bit like when we played Chesterfield and Notts. Like a kind of acceptance you're going down the shitter. Not good.

Just watched the game back on ifollow. The amount of chances Tom Lowery created was ridiculous.

Not sure what the crack is with the owner and the signings he makes. Some suggesting he benefits from his agent links by signing the players he does but I don’t know enough about that. All I do know is he’s signed a lot of foreign lads since he’s been here; two or three have been okay but most are poor and regardless of their ability, his interference in signings and dressing room matters has caused all sorts of rifts and divides.

He’s now given up pretending he’s not controlling everything and has employed a head coach who I genuinely feel sorry for. Banide hasn’t a clue and is just a puppet for the Lemsagams (from what I hear, Abdallah’s brother is even worse).

Our captain is now in his third year with us. He turns up when he wants to (vs Mansfield at home last year he was brilliant) but goes missing most of the time. Most likely he’s captain because he speaks the best English out of the French lads.

We had the life drained out of us by our previous owner - attendances halved and apathy set in. That apathy means that most as you say are fed up but don’t really have the energy to do anything about it so we’ll drop out of the football league and then who knows what.

And I’ve not even started with the off field stuff where yesterday our new stand had all kiosks shut and lights off due to Lemsagam having fallen out with the landlord...

Hopefully a couple more poor results sparks unrest but I do think most just haven’t the energy.

I fear for Oldham, I really do. The club is nothing more than a corpse of its former self. Along with Wimbledon, Coventry and Notts County, Oldham have had one of the biggest declines in stature in English Football since the Premier League became a thing. If they ever depart from this league, it'll only be one way unless radical changes occur any time soon.

What was a solid Championship club with healthy attendances in the 80s is now a team barely plodding along on life support. I know George Edmundson going Rangers has netted Oldham a considerable fee this Summer, but you don't see Oldham selling many players. You rarely see Oldham going for promotion, no promotion in nearly 30 years reinforces this. They also have the current longest run of consecutive bottom half finishes in English football too. Attendances have plummeted along with the decline. I remember Oldham getting around 8-9000 when I first saw Crewe play them in 2002-03. Now it's less than half of that. It makes you think where the excitement is for the next generation to support them? I ask the same questions of Crewe on a regular basis but at least we have some form of philosophy and identity, even if it's flawed at times! Oldham's seems to be signing journeymen players from foreign leagues. This is an experiment that fails in England more often than not.

Hope they get out of the mess they're in soon. It's a good club which has been burned for far too long now and I'd much rather play them than the hobby club Salford.

As for the game yesterday, I missed the Oldham goal as I was queuing for a ticket but when I finally made it into the ground they didn't offer much at all bar that fantastic chance at the end they should've bagged. Good performance by ourselves, still concerned with how open we are at the back and we need 1 or 2 more bodies there before the window shuts (I'm convinced we won't make these signings). Finally though, we're creating loads, we look positive and threatening. Lowery, Porter and Powell were all excellent yesterday. But we must start taking our chances, that Owen Dale miss yesterday was inexcusable and that almost cost us two points. With clinical finishing and good luck regarding injuries, we'll improve on 12th place, but we need some more depth by September 2nd else we'll really hurt our chances of a playoff push.

I'm anticipating a tougher test against Walsall next week. Darrell Clarke knows how to organise a defence and I'm expecting them to try and hit us and our suspect defence on the counter like Plymouth did well last week. Tough ask for us playing 3 of the relegated 4 for our first 3 home games but we've managed to get a big away win to start the season off and we needed that!

Working so didn't go. All sounds very similar to the Plymouth game but the difference being the quality of the opposition. Cannot believe Artell is actually happy with the defence as it is, we must be completely broke. First win is always a relief tho, stops any rot setting in and confidence being shot. With the chances we're creating too, we could absolutely smash someone quite soon. Potentially the best attacking line up we've had in ages, very impressed with the Powell signing tbh.
