Copied from the L1 forum.

Which players have you had in the last 10 years who have gone on to be successful? It can be someone you had on loan, someone who came through your academy or someone who was contracted to your club.

Here's a few from Carlisle, just off the top of my head:

Tim Krul
Was on loan at Carlisle, and if I remember correctly he was quite good too. Now 1st team 'Keeper at Newcastle, and appeared at the 2014 World Cup.

Keiren Westwood
Another fantastic goalkeeper, but he was actually our player. His performance away to Leeds in the play offs was probably the best I've seen at Carlisle. He went on to play for Sunderland but played less than 20 games for them, then he won Player of The Year at Sheff Wed this season.

Glenn Murray
Made nearly 50 appearances for us, scoring just 5 goals, now playing in the Prem with Crystal Palace with a great scoring record.

Richard Keogh
'In Keogh We Trust'. Spent a couple of seasons with us, and was a fan favourite during his time. Now captains Derby County, and has made a few appearances for the Republic of Ireland.

Honourable mentions for Joe Garner, Ben Marshall, Adam Clayton and Jermaine Beckford.

Couldn't possibly imagine that coming close to happening at Derby, accident waiting to happen at times.

Curtis Davies
Came through the academy. Part of the team that pissed League One in 2005 and was sold to West Brom for £3 million the following summer. He's had a good Premiership career since, but should have done better really - he had so much potential. Some bad injuries at Villa hurt his development I think.

Leon Barnett
Another one through the academy. Stepped pretty much straight into Curtis's place, and was sold to West Brom (again) for £2 million a year or so later. Never in the same league as Curtis, he had the physical attributes but not the brain. Still spent most of his career since in lower Prem/top Championship though.

Kevin Foley
Another academy graduate, he was a stalwart for a few seasons including the aforementioned League One pissing and our first season back in the Championship. Sold him to Wolves when we went back down in 2007. He was their player of the season when they went up to the Prem a season or two later if memory serves. Played quite a few Premiership games in the following years, although he fell out of favour when they went back down. He's now at Copenhagen.

Chris Martin
Had him on loan from Norwich in the -30 season. He was perceived as a bit of a bad boy back then, Norwich wanted shot of him as he was disruptive in the dressing room supposedly. He had a good season for us, scored a goal in the JPT final. Ended up with about 15 goals I believe. He obviously had talent, but to be honest I never expected him to be as successful as he has been since. Shame he never stepped up the Prem, but he's well established as a top Championship striker now. Supposedly, when he was in the Norwich team the season after his loan ended he used to go straight back into the dressing room after games and check the Luton score.

Andre Gray
Signed from Conference North for £30k or something like that. Branded shit by numerous Conference fans on the old forums for a couple of years despite being our top scorer ever since he arrived. "He'll never make it at League level" and "you'll never get more than £200k for him" were recurring themes. I think I even offered someone a £50 bet to charity once that we would sell him for more than £250k, although he never accepted. Scored 30 goals from the right wing in our Conference pissing season. Sold for £600k plus substantial add-ons, just scored 17 goals in his first season in the Championship and helped Brentford make the play-offs. Still got a lot to learn, but he's got time and physical attributes very much on his side. He'll be in the Prem within 3 years for sure.

Cauley Woodrow
Another youth team product, although he only played in one or two FA Trophy games before Fulham came in. Fee was rumoured to be in the £500k range if memory serves. He broke into their first team in their Premiership relegation season, he's got a pretty crappy goals return since being back in the Championship though. No idea how his career will pan out.

Funny thing about Beckford was that we thought he was rubbish. Just shows what we know now he's gone on to win thirty England caps. From the generation previous to that one though we had matt Jansen and Rory delap

The 'In Keogh We Trust' banner was on show during the Capital One Cup game against you lot this season, which was a bit much.

Infact, he was at fault for the Zamora goal in the play off final wasn't he?

Liam Lawrence - Left us for peanuts to Sunderland where they won the Championship, Since played for Stoke, Cardiff some side in Greece and now Shrews. Great player for us, One of the reasons I kept going as a Kid, He was exciting to watch.

Lee Williamson - Left us again in 04, To Northampton I think? Since played in the Prem with Watford but spent most of his time in the Championship. Currently at Blackburn.

Bobby Hassell - Left us for Barnsley and must've been there for 8/9 years before leaving last season. Most of the time spent in the Championship and a few years in L1.

All the above came through our YT at the same time, Not bad really.

Alex John-Baptitse - Left for Blackpool, Played in the Prem now at Blackburn or Bolton.

Tom Naylor - Looked destined to play higher than the Conference, Went to Derby. Not sure if he's ever played for them. I know he's had a spell at Burton, Actually played in a Charity match at Field MIll today. He's one I'd have back if we could despite how he left last time.

Lee Gregory - Funny one, Holdsworth never gave him a chance, He ended up at Halifax and now look..

Luke O'Niell - Incredible 1 season for us and ended up signing for Burnley. Not really made it yet, Again I'd have him back without a doubt.

Now we've got Jack Thomas and Joe Fitzpatrick who have just come into the side, Both look a class above the older players we have. Wolves and Sheff Wed looking at Thomas, Fitz has only played in 3/4 games but In the YT games I've seen he could be a better player than Thomas. Lets hope so anyway!

All those players and the club make fuck all out of it.

It wasn't entirely his fault, we had two players just leave the ball so one of their players could cross in to Keogh. Of course, he made a joke of a clearance straight to Zamora so he could score.

This surprises me. I didn't really look into the playing history of Luke O'Neill before... In my mind he was a 19 year old kid from Burnley's youth system... He was incredibly naive for us, looked about Conference standard.

Kettering fans said the same when we signed him. He came here as back up to John Thompson but when he got assaulted in a Friendly which eventually caused him to retire Luke O'Niell became our first choice Right back. What a season he had aswell, Scored 3/4 goals, an get up and down, Quality delivery into the box, Pace, Could tackle and could even take a free kick. Won Player of the season for us.

As a Pompey fan, we've seen more players in and out of Fratton Park over the last 10 years than probably any other period, but a few names that I'm proud to say were products of the Pompey academy and definitely have bright futures.

Matt Ritchie. The midfielder who just had a great season in the Championship with Bournemouth and is getting ready for a season in the Premier League next season is a great young prospect. He featured in a few games during the 2009/10 season where we were relegated from the Premier League and for some mad reason, Steve Cotterill let him go. He then went to Swindon and then Bournemouth, and is now off to the PL - picking up some player of the season accolades on the way.

Joel Ward - the Pompey born and bred defender has done well since leaving Pompey and signing for Crystal Palace, again featuring for a PL side, he is still developing as a player and needs to get himself a regular place.

Marc Wilson - the stoke defender came through the ranks at Fratton Park and has since been plying his trade in the PL for Stoke City.

Marlon Pack. The midfielder left Pompey at the same time as Matt Ritchie. another one who we let get away and is off celebrating a double trophy winning season with Bristol City and will be playing Championship football next season whilst we're slugging it out in League Two.

Saido Berahino: Had him on loan a few years back, was clearly a good finisher but I am shocked at how quickly he has progressed.
Bradley Johnson: Left us to go to Leeds and now becoming a goalscoring midfielder for Norwich. Believe he is their player of the season.
Ikechi Anya: We got him from Glenn Hoddles Spanish academy. Had pace to burn, played as more of a forward/winger. Done very well for Watford/Scotland as a wing back.

There's plenty before the 10 year cut off but not so many since.

John Ruddy is the obvious one who just squeezes in. Bradley Johnson also slipped through our fingers as we dropped out of the league - to Northampton's benefit. After that it is mainly solid moves to championship or L1 for a few.

We have plenty of players from the old days who are now prominent in management and media - from Moysey and Claridge to Gareth Ainsworth and Secret Footballer Dave Kitson. Of course, legend Dion recently made his debut on your screens as presenter of Homes under the Hammer - a treat that I have yet to catch up with. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...-internet-reacts-and-so-does-he-10172340.html

Finally, Wilf Manion was the only former U's player to be inducted in the English Football Hall of Fame.

Our is pretty shite tbh

Collymore, Mark Gower I suppose, Assombalonga, Gary Hooper, Nicky Bailey, Alan McCormack done alright as well but I'm scraping the barrel with these Championship players. I don't really know anyone else other than those sure there are more but they would be before my time or I can't remember their one month loan spell

I forgot Danny Graham for us too, he's currently playing for Sunderland after he was signed for £5 million from Swansea.

We also had James Chester on loan, who is a frequent starter for Hull in the Prem and has a few caps for Wales.

Would only add Morgaro Gomis to that list, if for no other reason than he looked quality in pre-season trials for us, got a very short term contract which saw him only get a place as an unused sub before being released. He then appeared in Scotland for Dundee United and had a good career playing in the Scottish Prem. Got two caps for Senegal as well.

Not sure why he got released.

Gomis, there's a name from the past. We signed him but never made an appearance because an agent got involved saying that he signed for us without his permission or something. Anyway, he left, all very bizarre!

My first thought when he left was that an agent was probably behind it, and it sounds like from your experience that it probably was. He "joined" us in the summer after "joining" you.

Still we had the last laugh as we signed Louis Soares and Ben Bowdtich instead.

Grant Holt. Born in Carlisle, youth team player, released at 18 by Roddy Collins who told him he had no future in the game. Where is he now, anyone know?

Not Holt, that fuckwit Collins
