Despite both Gloucestershire teams being only 15 miles distance from each other, there has hardly been any significant games between the two until very recent years.
Now ElGloico is the game all football supporters in the County want tickets. According the Cheltenham sources they have been County's top team for around 80 years but their smaller village neighbours are looking good to be this season's top team. That is really creating a lot of buzz.
Both sides had good Boxing Day wins and their current form is similar. Most ElGlosico games end in draws and this might end that that way. Would keep FGR in the promotion mix while offering Cheltenham another point away from relegation.
It is predicted that the game could finish with Cheltenham's biggest attendance of season with away end sold out.

The team with the best away form in the league against the one with the second worst home...bound to be a draw!

The away end won't sell out, and those FGR fans who have purchased tickets appear to be struggling to get hold of them according to the FGR forum - around 4,500-5,000 will be there and there are a lot more football fans in Gloucestershire than that, so the game all fans in Gloucestershire want to see is stretching it a bit.

In terms of buzz - I've neither seen nor heard mention of it anywhere I've been in the past week (and that ranges from Tewkesbury down to Cinderford) apart from at Whaddon Road on Boxing Day, and have even had people at work (in Gloucester, so right between the two clubs) asking who Cheltenham have got this week. Maybe there's a buzz over Stroud way.

As for the game, it promises to be a bit of a cracker. We're flying at the moment and FGR have the best away record in the league. I suspect, as is so often the case between these two, that it will be a draw. We're due to give them a pasting though as it's been 20 years since we last beat them (although we didn't play them for 17 of those 20 years).

Am I looking at the league table upside down? Mellon out.

Remember I said at the moment and not all season - we're currently 7th in the form table and coming off the back of our best result and performance of the season.

We have sold out, apparently.

Genuinely surprised by this - a first time for everything I suppose.

Both sides on the up at this juncture so a great buzz before the game at least. You could argue we’ve had our game when finally, someone got the wrong end of a stand-out performance i.e. boxing day against Newport. Hard to see lightening striking twice! A draw would suit us I’d say, in fact we last drew a league game back on October 20th and that was against Cheltenham! So won’t be too surprised if that was the outcome tomorrow.

We have plenty of reason to be confident, and with a new sticker possibly inbound very soon, our current boys must use this chance to impress and stay high-up in the pecking order. Cheltenham are having a very promising revival, so it’s all set-up nicely. Should be an absolute belter.

We’ve sold out our allocation, (900 I think). Got any more please :cool1:

Can young Williams repeat his heroics? Well set up for a cracking game with Cheltenham finding some form but bit concerned about our ability to make the good approach play count. Boxing Day suggests we might be getting past that but never too confident. Would be fantastic to be in touching distance of automatics come the new year.

Honestly, it's getting a little beyond a joke at the moment. Anyone would think this was Millwall-West Ham in the mid-70s the way the kids go on.

Apparently it's fancy dress tomorrow, everyone has to come in their best Stone Island gear.

Luckily think I've still got some stashed somewhere from my mispent youth occasionally tagging along with mates in the Gas Hit Squad. I'll be the bloke squeezed in gear about 4 sizes too small lol.

Just to add I learnt pretty quickly that if you don't act like a dick all the time then life gets a lot easier, some of these kids don't seem to learn.

My favourite bit of the last game was all the wannabe Danny Dyers on Twitter spouting crap about doing it all again this week.

Put either lot up against a decent sized support and watch them cower. I don't recall these lads coming out in force when we played Portsmouth and Plymouth a couple of years ago, or even Newport last month. Come to think of it, we only really see them for this game. I think that says a lot.

Bang on. Shame cos a good kicking from someone like Portsmouth would probably do them some good, as it were, valuable life lesson and all that.

Looking forward to this, be nice to actually beat them for once but predicting a draw as most others seem to be. Our excellent home form vs their top away record - should be a good one.

T'was always the way. Act all big and gobby, then when the opposition fans take offence and start heading in your direction, run like s***e.

Our fans might not be as noisy today as might have been expected as their self-styled leader has been told there is no room at the inn (see what I did there) and he is not welcome at the game.

He's a top lad tbf, shame to see this he's been a regular for 25 years, was a mascot, kit man under Harvey and is well liked by a lot of people. Gets a bit carried away occasionally but he's a proper fan and we need more like him. Reckon this will get sorted though, not the first time this has happened over the years lol.

Sometimes he does things without thinking, like posting an abusive comment on the club forum directed at a teenage female fan, then refusing to apologise when this was pointed out to him. The club has moved on considerably in the last couple of seasons, it is virtually unrecognisable in many respects from the club I started to follow, but if the person we are talking about is willing to admit their flaws...which may include defrauding the club out of admission money...and leave the 1970's, where they seem trapped in what may or may not have been a golden age for football, then I am sure they would be welcomed back.

I'm not sure it's him who considers himself as the self styled leader!

The above account by Chris would appear to be an informed and balanced view. We need to keep everyone onboard, the positive influence he brings is missed.

Looking forward to this afternoon, I just need to keep my expectations in check a bit.

Now to study the parking opportunities, going to be manic.

Mr Peake suggested closing our forum this morning, to allow people to find alternative forums to express their views. I don't think he meant this one!

Ours apparently is one of the best, even though it's like tumbleweed most of there time, only frequented by club badges trying their best to influence every view with their own sour high-handed agenda.

I'm not sure that I totally agree with that, although there are times when it can be a bit on the quiet side and conversation is dominated by a fairly small number of posters. As for high-handed agenda, I think most people see the sense of the green agenda and healthy eating message, you only have one body and there is just the one planet.

There is often disagreement on a wide range of matters, from who is picking the team, the players that are used and various aspects of how the club is being run. However, there are loads of ways to skin a cat, delivering a view in a well reasoned manner is far different from just setting out to dismiss an opinion, antagonise or insult someone.

Green agenda is fine with me, I'm a long way down the road. It's the sanitisation of football in general I'm against. We are gently promoting a sissy culture at our club, which is kind of anti football it's self. Football has rough edges, if you remove that you will have a different sport altogether. I'm not sure some of our fans would even notice if you changed the football posts for rugby one's. The club does what it does for business reasons, and of course to protect it's other priority.

I've seen Phil Mitchell's comment to the teenage fan, and frankly I don't think it's as bad as was made out.

The girl said she didn't know teams could loan players, he said it sums up the FGR fanbase. It's hardly a personal dig at her, or anything even remotely offensive to be fair.

Yep, not like he'd have been aware it was a kid either, though probably should have held his hands up once that was pointed out. But no sense in replacing loyal local supporters with teenage internet fans despite DV wanting the club to be a vehicle for his ideas and brand.

The thing is that at any club there should be a place for everyone, whether it is the bloke who wants to have a few beers with his mates before the game, stand on the terrace and sing his heart out, a family with young kids who want to make it a day out or the group of friends who have known each other for years and want a bite to eat and a glass of wine before the game. There is room for everyone, nobody is better than anyone else, they are all fans.

The club is now far more diverse than I can remember, a far greater number of women and children attend games , when I started watching football it was nearly all men. Just because someone isn't like you doesn't mean that they should forego their right to watch football, if Phil Mitchell could just get that in his head he might start enjoying the game again...though I suspect he won't.

Built as a Regency knocking shop for all the knobs from London to go on their jollies, home of the Ladies' College etc, not like ye olde mill towns of Stroud and Nailsworth famed for shearsmen's riots in the Luddite days.
