We welcome back old foes Barnet to The Mem on Saturday after a successful week's work away from home. Impressive victories at Yeovil and Luton have turned our disappointing start to the season into a very good one and we have the chance to get our first home win under our belts against the Bees, which will be particularly sweet if we can manage it.

We will definitely be full of confidence going into the game, although Martin Allen's side will be too after securing their first 3 point haul of the season in midweek. With John Akinde PEN leading the line they have a man more than capable of scoring, although Ellis Harrison is now off the mark and Jermaine Easter is looking better and better with each passing game, so I think we have a few goals in us as well (although, like DC, I would like another striker on board if possible).

How do we see this going then boys and girls?

I think we'll get off the mark at home with a home win on this one. Will be a tough game without doubt but even forgetting apart from the Northampton game performances have been better than the results in a way (and the results have been decent.)

We have a good home record over DC and I can't imagine us losing two in a row at home.

I had a little look on the Barnet forum and saw the start of their match thread for our game and matching that with some of the viewpoints of their fans on here, Barnet fans really have a bee in their bonnets about us don't they? Don't get the bitterness, they won the league so they got what they wanted and we went up via the playoffs and Wembley which worked out brilliantly for us too. To me they are just like any other club now!

It's the Barnet/Carlisle Utd rivalry rehashed..
Actually I'm not so sure how serious most of it is.

I went to one of those games in the mid 90's and wondered why there were so many Carlisle fans present. Filled the pub next to the ground. That was the day I met Mr Stein dad of Brian,Mark and Edwin.Lovely man, wonder if he is still alive ??

With regards to any rivalry with Rovers forget it you are just another team to play.

I think a draw is on the cards.

Maybe Rovers will get their usual 90th minute winner against us, as they always seem to do.

This will be a good benchmark for where the squad are at - it will be interesting to taste the difference between this years squad and last years League-winning squad.

1-1, Akinde's more successful brother 'Akinde Pen' to get the goal.

Should bring 300-400.

Have you made many changes to your squad since your promotion?

If the Rovers team that plays on Saturday against Barnet is the same as our last 2 games, it will only be our on loan keeper and James Clarke - a centre back from Woking - who are additions to the squad that finished last season.

The other 2 signings are wingers who haven't impressed and usually start on the bench.

We do seem to have a habit of grabbing a last minute winner when we play Barnet at home and as we've scored late to take the points at Yeovil and Luton maybe another dramatic finish is on the cards?

I think this will be a very close game. Difficult to call, as so many league 2 matches are. I'm hoping we can sneak it 2-1 but nothing would surprise me.

To be honest no one has a bee in their bonnet, just some bees fans poking fun at the few bristol fans who went on about taking millions to some of the games last year and it became a bit of a standing joke about how big you are.

Reckon we will loose 2-1
Akinde will score a penalty after being hacked down

Barnet have been poor so far this season... Was keeping an eye on their game against Northampton and northampton was very on top before the penalty and red card. Think our first game was down to nerves and we've played as well as I've seen us in a very long time last 2 away games. As long as our players don't bottle it in front of 8,000 we'll be ok

Agree with most of what you say GA, but think this bit is a little harsh. We have only played four games so far and they have had to make way to accommodate the change in formation. I think Montano will become a decent player for us given a bit of time - it's incredibly harsh to judge him on a few minutes here and there (especially when in the first game everyone was well below par).

I do think it could be a difficult afternoon for us, but I am confident after how we played in the last three games. There will be a decent crowd and fingers crossed we can get our first home win of the season in front of a good crowd.

I thought the Barnet Carlisle rivalry only started in 2005.

I didn't mean it to sound like I'd completely written them off, just that they haven't impressed yet and aren't currently in the team.

I agree, Montana has shown glimpses of quality but I'm not convinced about Bodin or Monakana. I personally doubt we'll extend Bodin's short term deal or Monakana's loan, but I could be wrong.

Surprised you've managed to get to Brisbane Road, The New Den and The Hive twice in the space of three weeks. Impressive.

As a matter of fact, they weren't ''very on top'', both teams had spells of dominance and we crept into the game more and more as it progressed.

You're gonna look like a bit of a tit if you lose.

Have you made many changes to your squad since your promotion?

The team that played the most part of last season:
Stack, Yiadom, Stephens, N'Gala, Johnson; Vilhete, Togwell, Weston, Cook; Akinde, MacDonald.

The team likely to start on Saturday:
Stack; Hoyte, Dembele, N'Gala, Stephens; Yiadom, Togwell, Weston, Gambin, Akinde, McClean.

Not an awful lot of changing - three new faces, maybe only two if Gash starts in place of McClean.

I think he already looks a bit of a tit regardless of the result.
Expecting another last minute defeat.

Looking forward to this as it should be a tough test for us. Hoping for a win but I can see us conceding late. I think we can get a result if we play like we have for the most part of this season but we just need to be more clinical and score when we are on top.

Likely team
Stack
Hoyte Dembele N'Gala Johnson
Yiadom Togwell Weston Gambin
Akinde McClean

250-400 Bees I think.

The Rovers forum is ridiculous :fl: I like how they try to say that they don't have a big club mentality while referring to us as tinpot and making comments about attendances... Deary me.

Thanks for wrecking Lutons day on Tuesday but you're still firmly in with them as clubs whose fan base outnumber the population of a small European country.

I'll take a 2-1 win with good old Akinde PEN scoring our two please :bdick:

Why are you taking it so seriously???

I'm not, i'm laughing about it. You guys won the league, yet maintain this bitter inferiority complex. It's bizarre. Why on earth would you care about Sainsbury's or our stadium? We aren't rivals, we never will be, we see you as nothing but another club.

Well i'm sorry, but sponsoring a Dover player who scored a goal against us once in a season we still got promoted is the definition of tinpot.

No worries. I think you'll be proven absolutely right about Bodin. He's not going to get in ahead of MT, EH or JE up front and we don't currently play with wingers - and when we do we have Montano and Monakana - so he won't get much of a chance to impress. He showed a great attitude in pre-season, but he probably isn't what we are looking for.

It's the supporters of both clubs who are on their forums 24/7 who make it seem like there is a rivalry between us. There isn't, but they constantly post inane drivel comparing the two of us. Rovers fans interpret it as Barnet having an obsession with us, whilst Barnet fans interpret it as us having a problem with them. We don't, by and large, have any issue with you and I imagine you would say likewise about us.

Most of the Barnet posters on here are balanced and I respect their thoughts, so I would like to think we can discuss the game amicably both pre and post-match, whatever the outcome.

Well said , both sets of fans were for the most part gracious and respectful after last years title battle ( on here anyway ) and I personally would like to see the bees go well again .

Can't wait to get soaked on that terrace.

Can't wait for the inevitable last minute winner in your favour.

What a day we'll have on Saturday... :brill:

Biggest game of the season, this. Playing what is probably our largest rivals. How we beat the scum. :fish:

Nah should be a good game, pretty sure it's laws of physics that we win 2-1 at home to Barnet with a last minute winner isn't it?

McLean worries me, he was flippin quality and could prove to be loan signing of the season. It's not going to be a stroll in the park, but I think we have what it takes to win.

2-1 Rovers

If our defence has a good day and keeps Akinde quiet, and on his feet if he gets near our box, then we will win, if we allow Barnet to play I can see another home defeat!!!

Of course. Every club will have their wind-up merchants. Giving oxygen to them by posting links to threads they start on other boards plays into their hands though.

As for the match, if we're not meeting our goalkeeper for the first time at a service station on the way to the game this time, then we are already ahead of the game from last year.

Would happily take a point.

We ended going up in a more lucrative way with a Wembley day out so it wouldn't bother us, but Modeste wasn't why you went up. Would make more sense to lump together and sponsor Akinde shirt surely and then the money would go into your own club? I remember City sponsoring and sending presents to the bloke who scored to send us down and I thought that was cringey but I got it because we're actually rivals. Just struck me as tinpot.

I think we'll win this one. Bristol Rovers have only beaten a poor Yeovil team and a Luton side struggling to gel with a lucky last minute winner. All we have to do keep Ellis Harrison quiet and that will completely nullify the threat. 2-0 Bees.
