Derby away for us. Their home record is pretty poor so far but they have played Wigan, Oxford and Portsmouth at home already (plus Blackpool in the league cup) so it’s been a tough run for them.

For us, apart from Oxford on the opening day this is the first game against a side we’d expect to finish towards the top (unless you count Wigan). So big test for us. We didn’t offer alot there last season but it was in the middle of our awful run so hoping we might be a bit more confident this time round.

Some good match up's there on current form, ours should be a real decent game all be it will look at it more after our cup exploits tomorrow!

Derby for you guys is an odd one, they just seem a bit "meh"

I'm told that Bolton have a number out injured or suspended, so this could be a good time to play them. Santos is injured so I believe, which is a shame as he's always absolutely terrible against us.

Whatever team they put out, it will still be very competitive as they have the budget to provide excellent depth. Once again, we'll have to be at our very best to get anything.

It will be an interesting test to see how far we have come, as I felt they looked a stronger team than us when they came to the Vale at a similar time last year. We've got much better footballers now, so hopefully we take the game to them. Always nice to try and get one over on their absolute weapon of a manager too.

We could do with picking up points at home, as we have a few very tricky fixtures coming up.

At the moment theses no knowing which Wigan will turn up, if we can do what we've done in the last few away matches and try and dominate the ball we should be ok. Just fingers crossed no more injuries!!

It will be a good marker for our seemingly large progress compared to last season as a team.

Gutted Santos is out!

Lincoln away. Our last 5 league fixtures at Sincil Bank:

0-2
0-3
1-1
0-1
1-1

I'm not going to hold my breath on us breaking our scoring duck this weekend. The new manager is likely to be appointed before Saturday's game, but I suspect he'll have a watching brief before taking over full-time for Fleetwood next Saturday.

Northampton at home. Looking at our October fixtures, we really need to win this one. Northampton have lost a few but I don’t see them being in much trouble this season. Hoskins always seems a huge threat and has scored against us before.

We *should* have a couple more back for this game. Muskwe who Northampton wanted before we signed him will hopefully be fit for the bench at least. We really need more pace and physicality up top. Also hoping Aitchison and Rankine have a chance of featuring but that may be too soon.

Hopefully tomorrow night’s game won’t take too much out of us and we can sneak a win.

Wycombe away - a side I don't have fond memories of us playing. For some unknown reason I get the feeling that Saturday might just change that. Maybe I'm just drunk on the prospect of big things on the horizon at Brunton Park. We're potentially a few short weeks from significant investment, both on and off the pitch. Dare we dream?

Yeah, should be a Carlisle win.

We have it set up as a “family day”, and any time we try and do anything vaguely promotional and encourage the potential next generation of fans, it usually blows up in our face, so enjoy the 3 points.

If Barnsley can put 7 past port vale then Bolton should be beating teams like port vale easily. 5 nil away win I reckon. Dion Charles will have a field day on Saturday.

Leyton Orient at home, will we get out 1st win of the season ? Some poor team will sooner or later have to face up to losing to us and nothing personal I hope it's Orient this weekend
Incidentally many years ago when I lived down south I went with a friend to watch a game at Leyton, he managed to wangle us to go in their boardroom which was absolutely incredible. It was beautiful wood panelling and like the inside of a ship's cabin. You could see the connection ( I believe ) to the history of the club with shipping lines P&O or others

You know what he means though don't you
We do we even have it in our official bio on the socials from when the Oxford/Reading/Blackpool/Charlton fans have thrown the comments out, it’s a badge of honour to be #teamslikeportvale and we’ve adopted it as a source of pride when frustrated fans of so called “bigger” clubs throw it out there.

Congratulations to Exeter City on their 20th anniversary of being a fan owned club. I have just read a terrific article in the Guardian on line, and it really is first class. Praise for everybody from Gary Caldwell to of course the fans. Interestingly they have 3600 members of the trust each paying a minimum of £24
Forget all the shite in the Premier League, this is what football is all about
Best wishes for the next 20 years, sorry I definitely won't be around - and well done

Apparently up to nearly 11k sales for Saturday which is decent, hopefully come Saturday we can push 11500-12k sales. Not sure how many Bolton have sold up to this point.

Not a chance of those numbers given the capacity restriction on the Paddock, surely?

Railway holds a fair few doesn’t it plus the 4000 in Hamil and 2000 in the Lorne Street. Even restricted must be at least 3000 still over the Paddock and Stand, with Bolton sales it’s only around 7500-8000 in home ends.

Yeah I posted it as a bit of a joke. I'm actually expecting vale to beat Bolton due to a few players been out injured and suspended. We have a decent strike force but are weaker in goal and defensively this season.

Be tough, sounds like you’re having to play walking wounded too to get through but still have decent depth.

Plus bar the 6-3 we have a stinker of a record against Bolton; we battered you for long spells at your place last season and still lost, all be it thankfully no Trafford this time! What a keeper he was at this level.

We’ve rested 9 tonight so should keep us relatively fresh, hoping the absence of Arblaster is just to rest him although he’s just been stadium announcer and seems ok! He’s the cheat code we can’t be doing without.

Following on from this, your club historian Neilson N Kaufman suggested that the choice of the name Orient came about at the behest of a player Jack R Dearing. He was an employee of the Orient Steam Navigation Company, later part of P & I
Peninsular and Oriental. Now was it Michael Cain who said something like
'' Not a lot of people know that ''
Sorry lads an old man rambling !!

wow..is it a quid a game?

No. It's just the reality that we're not this tiny club with no fans like you continue to endlessly bang on about. Our following to your place was much better than what you brought up here given the point in the season and the run both sides were on at the time.
