We're very good at home so we should be looking to win this. However, Southend picked up a very impressive point away at Bolton last week so it won't be an easy game. Madden is back and may start but I hope he doesn't so that Van Veen and Hopper stay together up top.

Probably not, we've already got 3 better strikers so I don't really see the point.

Alexander is the main reason for it. He's gone to 4-4-2 which we haven't seemingly played for years and its worked perfectly. He's given Kevin Van Veen a 2nd chance which so far he has taken very well and he's signed well. He has a few faults of course, he takes far too long to make substitutions in my opinion but there's no manager at this level that's perfect.

I am delighted to have him in the squad. With our manager and coaching staff, he could do very well. We are light on quality strikers and unless he has changed, this lad is a natural. Coach and manage him well and give him quality to support and supply him and he will get games. I would start him in the upcoming trophy games.

Hope to see Smallwood make his debut. A CM ito sit in front of the CB's is what we have needed. Ness is the only one close to playing this role and he is out injured. Smallwood may have the solid Championship experience we need in that position. Looks a great signing

Looking decent for Scunny. Good squad on paper which seems to be in full flow already.

Good to see Madden and Van Veen working well together. Goal apiece too. Smallwood's debut with the goal of the game showed the class he has brought. Plus L1 player-of-the-month Morris hitting a trademark left footer from outside the box. Goals galore and we should have had more.

Southend had a good first 15 and could well have scored, but once we got into gear, we just brushed them away. Second half was one sided and we were cruising. Solid all-round performance with signs of a potentially great season ahead.

Not much consolation for the long riding home Southend fans who came to watch, but they are few teams in L1 who could have dealt with us playing like we did.
