Looking forward to today's game, it's funny how three days at work after a shocking home defeat can soften the mind for a tough away trip. I've not been to Roots Hall before (though I have been to Southend) so should be good.

Southend have been the best side we've played so far so we're in for it today. But we've looked better on the road recently so I actually have reasonable hopes today.

No expectations; Very limited hopes; Just pleased to have a trip to the Thames Delta for a game with a proper club - a first for me. No time for a side trip to Canvey but I think Down By the Jetty and a Squeeze selection may feature strongly up and down the A127.

Should be a fair following and a point would be a welcome reward - although I think we might have to score 2 or 3 to achieve it.

Decided not to go for obvious reasons but I'm actually quite hopeful we can get a result, the only reason for this is just pure blind optimism(or stupidity, we'll find out about 5ish) rather than having any faith in our quality.

I just hope dickie sets us up how I know he can when the going gets tough.

COME ON YOU U'S.

Cushty, I'll take that, haven't a clue how we played though, no doubt tom or laker will fill us in, a point closers boys.

Sounds like a load if our old dickhead crew made the trip. Sadly we've still got the remnants of our 80s firm kicking about who appear to have come out for today's game. After today's game I went into Southend for dinner with mates and drive past the Blue Boar where there were tons of cops outside, suggesting something was happening. Then we left Southend at 8ish and there were tons of police cars coming into Southend along the a127, we counted 15 and the police helicopter was out. So something was definitely going on but it's all rumours at the mo. If anything did happen, I can only say these aren't cambridge fans and we want nothing to do with them. It's always a minority spoiling it for everyone else.

With regards to the game, I thought we played ok and defended much better though we rode our luck a little. I questioned our 11 beforehand as it was obviously going to be a hoof team with little football intended but it actually coped well with what Southend threw at us. Well aside from Tait (our right back who was all at sea once again). I'm pleased with that point, I thought we deserved it if only for effort and digging in as much as ability.

Finally, I hope the poor Southend player is ok as that looked a nasty whack he took. It didn't sound good earlier based on what I read on twitter, mind.

Finally, I love that away end. It's brilliant for making noise in.

Some people on Twitter seemed to suggest that West Ham fans may be involved. Still, not good for anyone - especially in the Railway which from all of the times I've been in there is a bloody nice pub.

Pleased with the point and reassured that we can stop a team like Southend creating many chances when we need to. It was a pretty dire match but Hunt, Hughes (and Ball) delivered the necessary and Dunk goes from strength to strength. The team played like a team and Richard was buzzin' during and after. Another seaside jaunt (Hartlepool) next Saturday will be more nervous as expectations were pretty low yesterday.

Apologies to any Southend fans or citizens who got caught up with the idiots trying to re-visit what the club and fans hoped was ancient history. They weren't there for the football.and organised their own travel. Although we enjoyed pre-match pints in the Spread Eagle and Blue Boar, we were out of both before anything kicked off and on the A127 by 5.30.

Yeh. Embarrassing about sums it up. There's a little sub-culture that seems to have been relatively dormant whilst we were in non-league, with a few notable exceptions over the 10 years. Nostalgia seems to kick in particularly with opponents from the late 70's early 80's - which just gets me digging out Specials, Dr Feelgood and Clash albums.

Have our former acquaintances at Luton, York, Oxford and Newport had similar issues to deal with?

Scummy bastards whoever they are. I hope every single one of them is found, castrated, then beaten half to death themselves. All before spending a long sentence behind bars. Animals, scum of the earth.

Unbelievable. Sounds like a horrible attack by a big group on a couple of innocent fans.

I've not heard of anything as awful as this for a long time.

That sounds awful. I hope he pulls through if he doesn't looks like a couple southend fans will be going down for manslaughter. Wonder how long it's been since that happened in football?

It looked touch and go with that Watford fan at Wolves the other week for a while. It's pretty staggering that anyone would be stupid enough to kick someone in the head repeatedly after that story had been in the national news just a few days before. Thankfully he seems to have pulled through the worst of it now last I heard after an initially bleak outlook, so fingers crossed the same happens here.
