So the season starts in little over a weeks time - what's your starting XI looking like for the first game? I'd imagine some clubs will have some gaps still - some more than others - but by now we should be able to give it a good go!

Jack Bonham

Lee Hodson - Alfie Jones - Max Ehmer - Bradley Garmston

Ouss Cisse - Stuart O'Keefe

Mikael Ndjoli - Regan Charles-Cook - Elliot List

Brandon Hanlan

Subs: Joe Walsh, Barry Fuller, Connor Ogilvie, Mark Byrne, Mikael Mandron, Callum Reilly, Matty Willock/Darren Oldaker

It's an alright line up. Doubt it'll be anything more than mid-table, but Hanlan, List and Ndjoli are all rapid so will certainly cause damage on the counter attack. Not sure we have enough creativity in the squad though, but maybe that'll get added with one or more of the remaining signings.

Our line-up still has a few question marks, particularly regarding the three sitting behind the central striker. I'll have a go, though:

GK: McGillivray
DEF: Bolton Raggett Downing Brown
MID: McCrorie Naylor
ATT: Lowe (or Harness if Lowe goes) Pitman Curtis (or Williams?)
CF: Harrison

The three attacking positions behind Harrison are toughest to call, with Dennis, Evans and Cannon all in contention with Pitman for the number 10 role.

This is who I'd pick, but BBM probably has his own ideas...
4-2-3-1 formation
Josh Lillis
Ryan McLaughlin - Eoghan O'Connell* - JimMcNulty - Rhys Norrington-Davies
Aaron Morley - Oliver Rathbone
Rekeil Pyke - Callum Camps - Matt Done
Ian Henderson

Subs:
Robert Sanchez
Jimmy Keohane
Ryan Delaney
Louie Clarkson**
Stephen Dooley
Calvin Andrew
Fabio Tavares

*If fit, not appeared yet. If not, Jim McNulty to RCB and Delaney/Andrew to fill the gap.
** First year scholar, but looking a better bet than MJ Williams...

Shackell's suspended for the first 2 games so it'll be Bolger.

We still need numbers, though. Akinde's our only senior striker at the minute!

I’d be amazed if Willock isn’t in the starting 11, fitness permitting. Probably in place of Reece-Mogg.
I like that team

So would I realistically, but as he's not been in the last couple of friendlies I've stuck him on the bench for the first game. Need to take Reilly off that bench too now, so space for both Willock and Oldaker at least! Don't feel we really have too much depth after the 18 though....

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you... Wimbledon

Nathan Trott
(loanee)

Luke O'Neill - Terell Thomas - Will Nightingale (C) - Nesta Guinness-Walker
(Gills reject) - (at a guess??) - (joined us at 8yo) - (signed from Met Police)

Mitchell Pinnock - Dylan Connolly - Shane McLoughlin - Anthony Wordsworth
(a paper thin midfield, made up of non-league journeymen)

Michael Folivi - Joe Pigott
(on loan from Watford) - (last season's top scorer)
So there you go. I hear a collective shout of "WHO???" from the masses on here, and maybe I'm doing the above squad a major disservice, but if we don't bring in at least one more goal scorer - as well as a strong midfield presence - we will *struggle* this coming season. Very few of the above players I suspect would make it into the starting XI of other teams in this division.

I've been saying it for about 4 or 5 seasons now, but we need a nasty bastard in the team somewhere. We only ever seem to have nice guy, tippy-tappy players these days...

Still some players to bring in yet but going off the friendlies on how the players are performing I'll guess at this to start with.

433 formation

Iversen
Olosunde - Ihiekwe - Robertson - Mattock
Crooks - MacDonald - Barlaser
Vassell - Smith - Ladapo

Subs: Price, Wood, Jones, Wiles, Lindsay, Morris, Proctor

Any of Wiles, Lindsay and Morris could easily be in there though and we have young Lamy who I've not even put on the bench suppose to be decent prospect.

I still think we will fetch in at least another centre back maybe 2 and the young lad from Shamrock who is a left wing back on top of that squad as well.

We're likely missing 2-3 players that would be definite starters if fit (Alex Gilbey and Jordan Moore-Taylor). Rhys Healey I think will be 50/50 but I've included him. We're also missing new signing Brennan Dickenson who is carrying an injury. So this starting XI is probably 80% strength:

Lee Nicholls

George Williams - Joe Walsh - Russell Martin - Baily Cargill - Dean Lewington

Conor McGrandles - Jordan Houghton - Hiram Boateng

Rhys Healey

Kieran Agard

Subs: Moore, Brittain, Poole, Harley, Mason, Bowery, Asonganyi

Can't imagine you are far away with that team but you can possibly swap a few around for away games.
We definitely need another right side CB but he needs to be good enough to put pressure on the other lads.

Very much wrong on the Gills reject thing there. He was superb for us for the two years he was here, and it's disappointing he's gone to you.

Oh right, ok. Browsing your forum once he joined, the comments I noted were along the lines of "apart from the fact that he can't run, and can't tackle, and his positioning is poor, he's a good signing" (or words to that effect).

I'm glad to hear he's not all that bad - goodness knows our defence needs a bit of steel....

And now we've signed yet another ex-Gills player (literally in the last half hour) - the midfielder we've been on the lookout for.

Give us a proven goal scorer and we'll consider changing our name to 'AFC Gillingham Old Boys XI'

Looking ok at the moment but we could really do with signing a striker and a number 10. Fingers crossed for Tyler Walker and Bright Enobakhare.

It looks as though we are going to play 4-2-3-1 but who will be in those positions is unclear

Looking like it's going to be

Craig MacGillivray

Walkes Downing Burgess Brown

Mccrorie Naylor
Harness Evans Curtis

Harrison

Raggett has an elbow injury so unless he's back Burgess will fill in, don't think he's ever played LCB and looked uncomfortable there at Crawley. Jackett has played Naylor LCB so maybe him in place of Burgess and Ben Close in CM. Lowe will not start even if he stays as hes played just over 90mins all pre season

Ishmael Miller did his hamstring again yesterday and seems unlikely to feature for any of the six months of his contract. A massive blow to us, as he has been our most effective striker in pre-season.

I would guess we will line up as follows against Rochdale:

Scott Davies

Jake Caprice / Callum Woods (depending on injuries) George Ray Manny Monthe Liam Ridehalgh

Darren Potter
Ollie Banks David Perkins
Kieran Morris

Connor Jennings
Stefan Payne

Still after another central midfielder and a striker before the window closes. Hopefully can get the midfielder in before Saturday's opener against Pompey.

Difficult to leave out Dozzell,Rowe or Garbutt. Certainly won't be 2 up top every week. Still got Edwards, Lankaster, Nolan, Sears, Nsiala and Bishop to come back from injury. Chambers suspended for first game. Very light at the back

I'd expect us to line up first game like this
GK: Oxley
Def: Bwomono, Kiernan, Lennon, Ralph
Mid: Yearwood, Milligan, Mantom, McLaughlin
Str: Humphrys, Robinson

Rumours our end there are 4 signings to be completed this week and we still have Cox, Hopper, Demetriou, Dieng and Barratt to come back from injuries. More hopeful than I was not so long ago.

Complete guess from me, but hey.

-----------------------------Allsop------------------------------
--Grimmer*---Stewart-------El-Abd-----Jacobson--
-------Gape--------------Smyth*----------Bloomfield--
------Kashket---------Akinfenwa----------Samuel-----

* are new signings

That said, it's looking like a fair shout that our opening game will get called off unless Bolton can sort their shit out - they have until the end of today, or the EFL will postpone it.

If Bury and Bolton can't play their opening games then we should play our February fixture against each other on Saturday. We are close enough for it to not be a problem for the supporters and we free up dates for when we have to shoehorn the missed matches in.

Won't happen though!

Think this would be ours:

DykyJEg.png

In fact, that is our whole squad as it stands (bar a few youngsters who have never played a game so I've not included them). Of the backup players you can see, only 3 of them should be considered as first-team squad players, the rest are all youngsters who might see some action. As you can see, we have a VERY small squad as it stands.
