I don't post very often and I'm not going to judge all Notts county fans the same but I have just read the following on Notts County forum:

The ground is a disgrace, probably the most uncomfortable seats in the division. I couldn't attend yesterday but it wasn't a great disappointment tbh.

Never enjoy watching a game in that dump and their fans are just nasty, did you see any of them wielding those hooks they use in the fish docks? That is their usual party piece and most pubs near the ground need the Police to keep visiting fans well away in order to avoid mayhem.

Horrible place, disgusting ground and vile fans - welcome to Grimsby!

Thanks for that, considering both sets of fans observed a minutes applause/respect for the passing of a gtfc player and a young Notts supporter before and during the game and there was no obvious hostility between both sets of fans during or after the game I find these comments a bit out of order.
Our ground isn't perfect but 6 years in the wilderness didn't help, and we are in the process of getting a new ground.
I'm sure away trips for some of your fans to Braintree, Guisely, north Ferriby next year will wet your cosmopolitan appetites.......it didn't wet ours, only opened our eyes to the real game and to not take anything for granted.

Sorry to rant, and I know most genuine Notts fans aren't like this but felt the need to defend my club and fans!

The ground is pretty crap, that away end should have been pulled down about 2 decades ago. I struggled for leg space last time out, and I'm 5ft 10!

That said, that county forum is hilerious for delusion as well.

Someone suggesting that Grimsby is a horrible place with rough locals?...... That's a fresh opinion.

Listen, I was seeing a Cleethorpes lass for a couple of years in the 1990's and it is no worse than a plethera of northern working class towns; and Grimbo people are fine,.......although I'm for Mansfield, have six fingers, and my knuckles are awfully scuffed from dragging along on the concrete, so I guess it's home from home.

NCM is probably the worst place to go for a balanced view. I think the fact it has mad in the title, brings the wrong sort of people together for some crazy internet personas.

Still if it upsets you, I think perhaps leaving Grimsby for a couple of days might help you get some perspective

To be honest it's no wonder people have bad impressions of our Town judging by the look of a few of the locals.......

Well after travelling all around the world drinking Champagne supernova some might say he got bored of living half the world away and little by little he got fed up and came back to England, do you know what I mean?
He then met a girl from Grimsby on the internet who he describes as 'she's electric'.
So let's let them get on with it and let there be love, I just hope their love doesn't fade away and he doesn't end up crying his heart out.

Grimsby's ground looks alright on the tele but I've never actually been in there as an away fan so I can't comment but that Notts fan does not have to be so much of a nob about it.

It's a proper old rickety ground with character. It's a bit crap, but it's a decent traditional ground.

Much like our ground in that case!

That atmosphere used to be terrific when it was standing, probably the same as most grounds converted into all seater stadiums to be honest.
I used to go with my dad when I was a kid sitting on the bar in front of the metal fence at the front of the Ponny whilst my dad stood a few rows back. All the kids used to be sitting at the front behind the fence, of course Hillsborough changed all that and the atmosphere has never been the same since, except for the odd play off or cup game against a big team.

The big games there used to be amazing. I've been in BP when there's been over 23000 in there and the atmosphere was fantastic.

I always remember the Exeter game last game of season to go up for the second year running, Tony Rees doing back flicks nearly every time he had the ball, never known an atmosphere like it!

Yeah that game was pretty special. Only about 15000 there for that one though. The best that I've ever been in was when we beat Everton 2-1 in The League Cup in 1979 when Mike Brolly scored twice after Brian Kidd had given Everton the lead. I don't think they could have fitted a rizla paper in the ground that night.

What on earth are Stevenage going to make of over 1300 fish-hook wielding Mariners marauding through their Town Centre on Saturday! :bg:
