Looking forward to visiting the Luton Lido again
images

With heavy rain currently forecast for 3pm on Saturday you have to wonder whether fate has decided that our matches shall be played on water forever more. The last match was a joke

Anyway,
We are on a good run but Luton will always be a tough place to go. It's a shame we are without Dembele. If we get anything out of the game I will be happy.

Biggest joke of the season that was. How can a referee be talked out of abandoning a match anyway, but when the pitch is that bad?!

Presumably because abandoning it would have meant he'd have to go back to Luton at some point.

That's very true and I have deepest sympathies with any referee/official/fan that has to step foot into that dive.

Hopefully this will be more enjoyable than "the cauldron of hate" and "the Luton Lido" games. I'll take a draw.

Are you lot still banging on about that game? The conditions were the same for both sides.

Who said they weren't?

The weather for Sat is looking crap. Heavy rain and 40mph winds. I suspect we might see the Muggleton banana throw.

Refwatch; Ref for Luton v Bees (Hatters won 4 & drew 1 of last 5 meetings) is Darren England, 29, from Barnsley. Second season as a ref. Young and enthusiastic, says he's a 'big fan of the South American way of playing - the flair'. Well, the closest thing you'll get to South American flair in Luton on Saturday is the pissed guy playing the panpipes outside Grosvenor Casino, Darren. Never reffed Hatters. Reffed Bees twice; 2-0 away win over Southport in the Conference last year & 3-1 away loss to Pompey in Sept (sent Stephens off & gave 7Y), after which Allen called him 'weak from the first minute, & intimidated by the Fratton Park crowd'.
Attacking stats; Luton have 57 shots on target with 27 goals, low shots but very good conversion rate; Bees have 64 shots with 23 goals - average. Luton have conceded 166 fouls - average; Bees have conceded 180 - highish. His home win % is exactly 50%. In 21 games last season he gave 56 & 2 - low.
AnagramWatch; Darren England = Langer and Nerd. Dang Renal Nerd. Grand Renal End.

He was awful against Pompey, who knows how he'll react when the native Luton degenerates start getting stuck into him.

He's reffed us more than twice. We should all fondly remember his last game in charge at The Hive, the day we beat Gateshead to seal promotion. Didn't do anything wrong that day.

He did quite a lot right - wrongly giving us the corner that led to our 2nd goal and chalking off a 'goal' for the Heed for offside when he wasn't.
He was awful in the Pompey match though.

I'd had a bit of alcohol by then but I vaguely recall the "rightly" awarded corner.

The offside was correct, although I suppose the lino should take the credit for it. I recorded the programme on BT Sport and freeze framed it and he was off, just. That was in my, needing to get out more phase!

Any chance of it being Barnet's fault rather than the referees, the pitch or the weather?

Seems to be a bit of a confused picture about who is and isnt available for us, last i heard both Long and McCourt where with their international teams and wouldnt be available, but now within the space of a few hours of the club tweeting that, they "might" be available again. I also see Pelly who last week was "a week away", is still not fit, beginning to get a bit of de ja vu there.

Be interesting now Benson is back if he comes in from the off and him and Marriott play as a 2 or something else entirely. Seems like with the way we have played this year we have been crying out for a Benson type player for the midfielders to hit and for us to play off (which makes it all the more baffling that relying on a 36 year old wasn't addressed in the summer really but thats a moot point i guess)

Hoping for a good result and performance in this one, feels like i havent seen a decent home performance from us in an eternity, and if we have any ambition at all about getting up the league this is a game which we should be winning. Sorry as i know this sounds big headed but the next few games seem very winnable for us and its put up or shut up time now as far as the team finally "clicking" goes IMO.

Perhaps an advantage of having an airport on your doorstep...

Does McChunky still play for Lolton? I still can't believe he was only 29 when we last played them.

I presume the loss of earnings from him in the canteen is what's turned Luton from promotion chasers to relegation candidates

Any parking tips? It looks like a nightmare to park around the ground.

Well Shaun Long started for the Republic under 21s tonight so i doubt he will be playing tomorrow.

As for parking, i always seem to get a space either on, or on one of the roads off Ashburnham Road with no problem, which are about a 5 minute walk from the ground, sometimes have to do a couple of laps to get a space though and i do turn up at about 2 normally. On busier matchdays i sometimes have to go up to the top of the big hill at the end of the road (think its called Long Croft), which i do warn is quite steep, which you may want to avoid.

Plenty of parking in the town centre car parks if you don't mind a 10/15 minute walk.

That's a 10-15 minute walk through Luton, so I think I'll pass, although normally I don't mind it.

In other news... This is going to be called off isn't it? I'm presuming refunds are offered if a game is postponed?

Weather should be OK, despite the amount of rain that has been forecast. Its not particularly heavy at the moment and we have very good drainage at Kenilworth Road. Expect the team to possibly be this...

Looked a lot better with Benson in the team, he just knows how to play that position so well. First half we were really good, passed it around with decent tempo and Greens goal was very good indeed. Pleased to see him in the side as he has got quality for this level and he showed it first half.

Second half Barnet really pushed on but where susceptible to the counter and that's how we got the second. After that we were pretty comfortable and just closed the game out. Barnet had one chance at 1-0 which Akinde will be disappointed he missed I think, other than that despite having some possession in the second half nothing much was created and by the end and they looked like they had just run out of ideas.

Some good performances, McQuoid, Benson, Smith and Lawless the stand outs for me, Cuthbert was a bit shaky but got better as the game went on. Probably the best full 90 mins I've personally witnessed from us this season so pretty happy with that.

Good performance today. First 30 minutes we were excellent. Between then and the second goal, nothing really happened. Became very scrappy - the team shooting towards the Kenilworth Road end had an advantage of the wind. Barnet will bemoan wasted chances, but Luton managed the game very well.

Won't be a particularly memorable game, but a solid 2-0 win nonetheless.

Well that was just as shite as the weather.

First off, the amount of legroom at Kennel Road must be in breach of the Human Rights Act for anyone over 5' 9". Not even joking either, it's appalling?

Secondly, it's fucking horrible supporting a team who's first point of call when losing 1-0 is to bring on Shaun 'The Giraffe' Batt, and immediate response at 2-0 is Sam 'Hand Grenade' Muggleton. It's not even like we didn't have some semblance of quality on the bench either. But Batt and Muggleton, seriously? I withstood 3 hours in Luton to watch us go out with a whimper with THOSE subs? Fuck you, Martin Allen.

Thirdly, Weston was shite and should've been replaced by Bailey at HT. Is he undroppable or something? Awful passing, set piece delivery, movement today. Midfield wasn't helped by the tactics or conditions to be fair, but still. Not good enough.

Finally, Luton weren't even *that* great today. You could tell they performed well and I presume that was their best game in a while, but it wasn't anything amazing. I'm worried at how we just lack answers to teams that are actually able to stick 3 men on Akinde and recover in time to close down the space that leaves in behind.

This will be due the course for this season until at least January were hopefully some of the fuck ups MA made over the summer will hopefully be changed (namely spending so much fuckin money on Batts wages and continuing to employ Muggleton, as nice a guy as he is).

I fucking hate losing to Luton. Ugh.
