If you had no mortgage and no personal debts and £150,000 dropped in your lap, what would do with it?

I'd buy a villa in some Caribbean island and would spend my life doing nothing and not caring about the rest of the world. Amazing.

Depends on your age really. If you're younger I would say definitely put the money towards a home of your own, or at the very least if you're not ready to settle put the money into something like a government bond where you can't touch it for 3 or 5 years that will also yield a return.

If you're older and have things like Grandchildren and you're comfortably set for life, pension all good, I would consider looking at ways to gift this amount to immediate family through trusts or yearly limits of giving to get around Inheritance Tax or Capital Gains Tax.

If you're somewhere inbetween that then it has to be pints, cocaine and whores.

A similar thread was posted a long time ago on TFF and I said then that I'd "kill myself in style".

Nothing's changed.

Don't think you'd even get as far as buying the villa with only £150,000

Pretty sure that in the Carribean, well, certainly in Barbados, an individual can't buy a property unless they were born there. A foreigner has to purchase through a company IIRC.

Are we still working in this scenario? If not, £150,000 is only approximately 10 years worth of a minimum wage salary. What's that, about £1100 a month?
