The New Den - Millwall FC ground guide

How Easy Was The Ground to Get To (from the station, by car, etc)

Another cycling job for me, which took about 45 minutes. The ground is a bit confusing to find if you come from central London that way but I eventually found it and the Lions in the Community Centre next to the Barry Kitchener stand very helpfully has a few bike racks.
Car parking really is not an option at this ground as I could only see very limited street parking nearby. Really, you'd be foolish not to take the train from London Bridge to South Bermondsey station. From there, there is a special walkway which gets you right to the ground in a matter of minutes.

If Applicable, How is Parking Near The Ground?
Very very limited street parking form what I saw.

Based on Where You Were Sat, How Was the View?
Unless you have a very large away following of more than 2000, you'll be housed in the upper tier of the away stand behind one of the goals. The ground is modern, being only 22 years old, so all of the stands are cantilever in design and the seating rake is nice and steep no you will have an unimpeded view of the action.
The only niggle was that you had to queue up for the ticket office to get a ticket which would get you through the turnstile. As a result a big queue built up for people waiting to pay and quite a lot of fans missed kick-off. If you are able to buy your ticket for a Milwall match online, do so!

If You Ate at The Ground, How Would You Rate the Food?
Not applicable although the choice did look quite good.

How Was The Atmosphere At The Ground, From Both Sets of Supporters? Does the Stadium Hold the Noise?
A league cup tie so it was a bit low-key. The Dockers stand wasn't open and the other two home stands were sparsely populated so the Lions roar was muted. I think we were pretty loud for the 500-odd we brought but we did end up having more to cheer than the home fans did.
How Are the Pubs and Local Attractions in The Local Area?
Pubs around the ground are non-existent. You're better off either having a drink in London Bridge or around New Cross, where I know there are some decent pubs. A bit further afield is Deptford, which is always an interesting place to visit. If it's a warm sunny day, Southwark Park is nice to visit.

Overall Score Out of 10?
9/10. I had a pleasant time at the New Den but then we don't have any sort of rivalry with Milwall!

I went by coach when I went. They gave us an escort and locked us in for over an hour after...fun...

Not a clue as we werent allowed out!

Based on Where You Were Sat, How Was the View?
Back row of the upper tier, view was perfect. All four stands are quite similar, but the stand is so steep, even at the back of the upper, it still feels pretty close to the action.

How Were The Stewards on The Day?
No problem with us standing up

If You Ate at The Ground, How Would You Rate the Food?
Not a clue, because we had a big following, you couldnt get near the bar, as both the upper and lower share a concourse.

How Was The Atmosphere At The Ground, From Both Sets of Supporters? Does the Stadium Hold the Noise?
Atmosphere is fantastic. Great ground for acoustics, and Millwall fans still delight in trying to make the place intimidating.

How Are the Pubs and Local Attractions in The Local Area?
Again, not a clue as they wouldnt let us out!

Overall Score Out of 10?
I wouldnt go by coach again, imagine its a far better trip if you go by train, as the joy of London is that you can always go somewhere else and get the train in. So based on just the ground itself, decent with a great atmosphere,
7/10

The benefits of supporting a smaller team! We were let out straight away.

Yeah, I didnt think everybody would be subject to those conditions! We had 3,000 there for an FA Cup game!

The spelling of Millwall in the OP makes my eyes bleed. Otherwise, carry on.

A short walk from South Bermondsey station, for the away fans we have a separate walkway which leads directly to the away end.

Great view. I was row B of the away sector (upper tear) , but I had a walk about and every part of the away end had a great view. I imagine all ends had good views, especially on upper tears

How Were The Stewards on The Day?

Kept to themselves and did't try to impose any rules (sit sown! blah blah blah). However saw a few lads from either end getting escorted out.

Really good atmosphere. The hardcore home support seem to buy their tickets as close as they can to the away end, and a constant barrage of threats and abuse comes our way. Great support from the Millwall, the Gillingham away fans also very loud as well. Made for a superb atmosphere.

London Bridge is the Local Area, could also drink in Greenwich, Blackheath, Rotherhithe or half a hundred other places in London a short cab ride away from the ground.

Indeed, although I always find Rotherhithe a bit creepy as it's so close to central London yet so quiet!
