Amidst all the so-called 'derbies' in the league this week, you'd be hard pushed to find two teams with less connecting them than Carlisle and Cheltenham. No big-name players who have played for both, no historic fixtures, neither are each other's bogey club, the only things I can think of are to say that we've played Cheltenham early on both this season and last and both times saw us record our first victories of those seasons. In fact the only connections I can dig up are that Roddy Collins (yes that one) played one match for Cheltenham back in 1988 and former Carlisle favourite Richard Keogh played ten games for them on loan between his loan at Carlisle and him signing for us. Ben Marshall, Paul Black, Ian Stevens and Daryl Duffy also featured for both, mostly for only handfuls of matches and/or as loanees, though Stevens and Marshall did more for Carlisle. If you want to call it a connection, Cheltenham are also the team who relegated us to non-league but even then it was with a draw when we were all but down anyway.

No point starting a thread for this one Shoddy, we'll be the only ones using it.

I don't think there are any Cheltenham fans here. lol

We'll just use it to annoy HG if nothing comes of it. ;)

I always had a soft spot for Carlisle, my best friend in early secondary school was a fan and had the deckchair shirt.

Then there was the Jimmy Glass incident which meant we replaced Scarborough in the league as opposed to Carlisle.

I've been to Carlisle once, it was a Sunday 2pm kick-off due to England playing on the Saturday, and once was enough after watching the most comfortable 2-0 win Carlisle could ever hope to wish for. 3 hours to get there I thought wasn't bad - the 5 hour journey home was horrific.

As for Saturday, I don't see how we can get a win. We were dreadful in the second half against Tranmere and since Nigel Atangana went off against Crawley we're definitely lacking something. Carlisle of course should have new manage syndrome, married with good form anyway.

I doubt I'll even listen to the game on the radio this week.

I keep thinking this'll be a comfy win, so something will go horribly wrong as usual. If there's no signings tomorrow then we're not really looking great in attack with just 2 recognised strikers and one of them an inexperienced kid. I'd probably keep the team the same as last week despite the defeat, McCarron will have the crowd right behind him all the time and we'll be able to break at speed like we've been doing so well.

3-0 or 0-1

To lose 4 players from an already threadbare squad (2 of them were shite to be fair) and only bring in 1 who from the early signs looks well below the level needed, is pretty shit even by this clubs standards.

Our attack is absolute powder puff. Last week showed that now the pace has been taken from the side we’re almost zero threat going forward. Feel sorry for Pressley, he’s on a hiding to nothing inheriting a squad that is in healthy league position but now the only way is down having been significantly weakened this window while all the other teams around us are strengthening.

This board is an absolute shower, 5th in the league, on a 6 game winning streak, most positive the fans have been for years and they let this happen. Absolute parasites the lot of them. Wankers.

2-1 to Cheltenham. Full time boos and abuse aimed at Holdsworth and the board.

Surely it's the only National Hunt Derby in L2?

I see we got the typical excuses statement yesterday. “We did everything at our end” load of shit. They must think we’re fucking thick.

4 players out, and only a fucking teenager from Hyde Ufuckingnited in. These tossers don’t want us to push on, they want us to fail. Sinking down to 10th - 16th position between now and the end of the season would suit these twats down to the ground.

Feel sorry for Pressley.

This is the John Ward derby, as you should well know.

They were hoping to get a player signed in time to play today but missed the deadline. I don't see why HG is so cynical about that, I mean none of us particularly trust the board but I'm not yet at the stage of assuming they fucked up when they say that it was the players agent who caused the delay. These deadlines are missed all the time, by clubs with competent boards as well as ours.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to hopefully a fresh feel around the place today. Obviously we have to win, and if we do we can forget about the performance at Northampton (in which I understand we weren't particularly terrible) and just say we have 7 wins in 8. Pressley seems like a cheery sort, and John Sheridan, as I'm sure any fans of the other clubs he has managed know, is the most morose man in football (well OK, second most morose behind HG).

Do you live in Cheltenham?

If so, how the bloody hell did you get from there to Carlisle in 3 hours! Cracking effort

240 miles, so you have to average 80mph to do it.
Must have been quiet on the M5/M6 that day.

That’s what I mean. Bloody lucky. It’s like a car park most of the time!

Mind I suppose the 5 hours return

Not the most exciting half of football ever, both teams passing it about and attacking on the counter. All very easy on the eye but there's been no real chances to speak of, no spells of sustained pressure, just a lovely relaxed knock-about for all concerned. Not even enough happened for there to be injury time. Happily for us, Liam McCarron has been our stand out player, really looks like a player now.

Good win, I'll take that. We came out stronger in the second half and were able to apply that pressure, could have had 5 in the end. Two big chances dragged wide and one pinball that nobody knows how it stayed out.

I left at 9, it was a Sunday, I wouldn't have gone much under 95-100 on the motorway at the time (I was a bit of a boy racer between the ages of 18 and 21) and I recall it being pretty clear the whole way through, apart from a minor stoppage around Manchester way.

Parked up at around 12:05 - so just over 3 hours to be fair. Stoppages galore on the way back.

As for today - knew we'd lose, meh!!

It just said on the radio that they have been given the all clear to bring in 5 new players apparently.

So HG is talking shite as usual.

Oh and a good relatively easy win today! :)

Easy win. Cheltenham were way worse than I expected.

Our failure to create much in the first half highlighted where we’re lacking. Hopefully that can be addressed by end of the month.

Once we got the first goal more spaces appeared and should had 4 or 5 really. As comfortable a win as you’ll get without hitting top gear.

Our lack of depth is a concern, Sowerby going back is a concern, replacing Nadesan and Yates is a concern, right back is a concern.
