Well done to Bolton's Phil Parkinson and Scunthorpe's Josh Morris on winning their respective awards for August.

Edit: Not sure why it took so long but Nathan Smith has been announced as the Young Player of the Month for August!

Disappointed Smith didn't win it but great for him to get nominated in his first month of FL football... centre half who is our top scorer!

Two of our ex's, surprised at Morris as after a decent start he quickly sank away to disappointing squad fodder but good on him for turning that around at Scunny. But I can't help feel that had Nicky Law not hit the post at Millwall on Saturday, those extra two points would have clinched the award for McCall: He only started weeks after most others after PP upped and left, he had literally no footballing staff, we had no scouting reports as they all found there way to Bolton (although ironically the bulk of PP's summer signings are those we looked at years ago and didn't bother with or failed to sign), we had just eight players, we've had a fit enough squad to fill a bench only once this month and with notably tough fixtures including MK, Peterborough, Millwall all away, and that's not mentioning the fact we pass the ball now too

Congratulations and well deserved for the boy! Owe a lot to Torquay for developing him last year on loan but will make us a lot of money and should if injuries permit make a very solid Centre Half in the top two divisions.

Most exciting player to come through since Anthony Gardner.

I agree you played some decent stuff v us at the Den, but I think Bradford will fall short because you don't have goals in your team. Only twice this season have you got more than 1 in a game. Was your failing last season as well. It means one bit of bad luck, a mistake or a bit of good play from the opposition and you lose 2 or more points.

Doyle has barely had a thing to do, presumably someone looked and said 'that guys had a fair few clean sheets, pick him'

Doyle's a slightly better Ben Williams, makes one decent save a match but is otherwise protected by a decent back line. Slightly better than Williams as he actually makes a decent save when required. Also doesn't drop an absolute clanger every few games.

I suggest looking at a very, very "decent save" Williams made last Tuesday against MK Dons. As for clangers, he's probably only made one. The lack of clean sheets comes more from an ever changing defence than any fundamental flaws in his game, thus far at least.

Got nothing against Williams, just he broke the clean sheets record in a season here and got a lot of plaudits for it when it was in fact largely down to the defence and he was actually an average L1 keeper.

If I'm being critical I'd say I'd prefer a better keeper to Doyle really as I'm not utterly convinced. But he does a job and has fcked up less than Williams did.

Josh Morris won the players award for both of the first 2 months, doubt that's happened very often.

When did Williams get a lot of plaudits?

He regularly got a kicking on C&B, with many taking your line about the goals against record being almost entirely down to the defence.

Whilst Williams wasn't brilliant by any means, you don't keep that many clean sheets by accident.

Doyle certainly appears OK and hasn't dropped any clangers - but then again the only goal from memory where Williams was directly responsible last season was the one at Shrews.

There were a few where on another day he might have saved them - but you get those with all keepers, particularly at this level.

He threw the ball into his own net against Fleetwood away. Was generally limp wristed in the two play off games as well although we were awful all round. I definitely remember him making a couple more mistakes last season but can't remember which specific games so maybe I'm exaggerating. I agree with you in that he was like most L1 keepers, in fact I pretty much said that. He got a few arse kissing articles in the T&A which is more than most of the other defenders got. Pretty much every player gets a kicking on C&B at some point so bit of a moot point. Noticed they've turned on Darby now which is bizarre.

October's nominees:
Zach Clough (Bolton)
Erhan Oztumer (Walsall)
Billy Sharp (Sheffield United)
Joe Bunney (Rochdale)

Joe has played very well on being moved to left back. Still a bit surprised by the nomination, but good luck to him.

December's winners are a Dale double, with Keith Hill as MOTM and Matt Lund as POTM.

The superstitious are lumping money on Barrow for tomorrow's game even as I type this...:-)
